What have you purchased lately after seeing it advertised on social media?

This lightweight yellow puffer* from The Arrivals was in frequent rotation on my Instagram feed for so long, and I was so tempted by it, that I finally just went for it. And I’m so pleased I did, because because it’s lightweight and packable, and really very warm, and you can’t beat that yellow (though it does come in a few other, more subtle, hues). Now how about you? Which products have you gone for, or been tempted by?

*Expect a longer post on puffers soon.

I’ve ordered and love Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery cream. My face feels soft and supple and the scent is hard to describe but lovely — light and botanical? Herbal? I can’t say, but I like it. I’ve also recently purchased the Uproot Lint and Pet Hair cleaning tool, and this thing is incredible — I never realized how much cat hair was still embedded in my rugs after vacuuming!

The one thing I like but have found a little meh is ARQ hi-rise panties. The colors are great and I like that they’re manufactured in the US but the sizing is way off — I followed the chart and got L and they are swimming on me. Next I tried an M, but they’re still loose.

Via Ads? A couple of years ago I was mesmerized by an ad from Wander Beauty. The foundation stick turned out to be a winner. Then last year, it was that Ilia Skin Tint (though the scent if off-putting, it’s an excellent product). Just the other day I ordered the U Beauty Resurfacing Compound – super excited to try it. But a few weeks ago…I succumbed to a lame-ass toy for my dog that she literally won’t go near without barking at it. I’m just gonna stick to skincare and makeup from here on out.

I purchased the Sheertex tights… I wore them over the weekend, we will see if they are worth $50! And this was on sale.

Please update us on the Sheertex tights, I get those ads all the time. I also get ads for Snag tights. TBH I am pretty happy with Hue, b.ella, Wolford (on sale) and Calzedonia, but I am always curious about tights.

I just today recieved a pair of hideous leggings that I purchased on accident. At least there are free returns. I also got a cat comb that seems no different than the approximately seven thousand cat combs that I already own. Lesson: in general, stay away from things advertised on Instagram.

I’ve had a few pairs of Sheertex. They really do not snap, rip, or tear. Not quite literally “bulletproof” but their claims are true. They are definitely not a “luxe” experience. Very utilitarian feeling, which, they are made of kevlar fibres, so makes sense. Tactical tights? And their sizing seems off on me, runs small. I have repurchased so I’d say they are worth it. Recommend a dark color, as the flesh colors are (or were when I bought) quite opaque.

I purchased the Negative Underwear Sieve Plunge Bra in black and the Magal string of love bracelet. The bra is supportive yet super sexy and the bracelets I never take off. LOVE both items.

I just ordered a couple of dresses from Universal Standard, during a heavily-promoted sale. I’ve been thinking about buying a Geneva dress for years, so hopefully it satisfies.

I just ordered two of the Geneva dress too! I have also been wanting it for at least two years but couldn’t decide if I should buy the black or go with one of their lovely colors. With the sale I got to do both! (The other color I ordered was the Deep Sea).

I bought a MATE thermal sweat set in the early Spring, (they’re no longer “sweatsuits,” apparently) and now it’s too big for me. And it wasn’t cheap! I fall for everything I see on Instagram so I try to be extra discerning before pushing “buy.” It doesn’t always work.

I was relentlessly served these Sorel sandals on Instagram this past summer and I don’t wear any sandals or Teva-like things ever. I finally was like, you know what, *OK FINE* and bought them in Signal Red. I love them so much and get compliments on them all the time.

Hey June jewelry…I bought three pair of earrings and I’m in love. Specifically with a pair of small, spiral hoops. It’s a single earring that spirals and looks like you have a double piercing. The coolest. Good quality at a nice price and the company is owned by a woman named Bonnie with a great haircut.

Sloppy Joe Sweatshirts! I hate the ones with the logo but was able to snag a solid, navy polo style with no writing on it. Love that it covers my bum (and I’m 5’10”) and the cotton so soft.

I live on a sailboat in Mexico, so my seasons are reversed: summer the weather is dangerous and awful and we hide indoors (it’s a hot hibernation instead of a cold one!); winter weather is lovely and we play outside. I visited the US during the Sept-Oct peak of hurricane season and humidity, and while I did, I ordered the Linday Albanese Top Tote hat holder. It’s a handsome, high quality hex clip attached to a leather (or raffia, or plastic) covered pair of magnets. You snap the hex clip onto your purse or suitcase or slip it over a hanger, open the magnets around the brim of your hat, let them close, and voila!

I carried my favorite sun hat (the Ibeliv Tropeza) through three airports attached to my ukulele case this way on the trip home, hung it on a hanger in a rustic inn the first few days so it could dry after I wore it and didn’t get crawled on by insects at night. I’ve now hung it from a clip inside the boat. As someone who wears a hat every day in the tropics, this thing is a godsend. I love it so much that I’ve got a friend bringing me a second one.

I see lots of Vuori mentions! I haven’t seen Vuori on Insta, but I love them, too; I’ve got their Tavi short on right now — it’s designed to be swimable. So I ran in them this morning, I’m lounging in them this afternoon, and I’ll paddleboard in them tonite. I love their Clementine shorts, too! Tried their swim collection this spring and it was… very strange. Every piece looked horrifying on me. The Marine Mock Neck was… absolutely bizarre. I spend a lot of time in rash guards and wetsuits and this piece just made no sense. Same for the Seascape Shorty. I understand that they were going for the high-waisted, lots-of-thigh cut that’s popular right now, and I don’t at 51 expect every swimsuit to flatter me, but this was some of the least-flattering swimwear I’ve ever put on. Fortunately, they are great about returns.

While I’m making a rare appearance in the comments — I can’t own much in a sailboat, and I’m SUPER grateful to you, Kim, for turning me on to Emerson Fry’s India Collection, which is ideal for my weird life of doing laundry by hand in a bucket, not owning an iron, doing a lot of physical activity, needing a lot of sun protection, and wishing to look nice in a really low-maintenance way.

Lots of love from Banderas Bay!

I bought the Geneva sweatshirt hoodie from Marcella NYC that had been haunting my social media ads. It’s pretty nice — very substantial and warm, and the style is a bit more elevated than the usual hoodie pullover. Plus, thumb holes!

Perbelle Skin Tone Adjusting CC Cream (SPF 43). Perbelle did this genius thing and advertised their product via videos their customers sent, not 20-something models but older women with imperfect skin, putting on this amazing cream that goes on white, but then magically matches your skin color and covers all those dark spots and dark shadows. So I tried some this summer and it really helped me look better, didn’t trigger breakouts, and protected my sensitive skin from the sun. I’ve already ordered a second tube.

I bought the Laura Geller Timeless Skin foundation after being deluged on instagram. Happily, it lives up to the ads! My 60 year old skin looks nicely evened out and it doesn’t cake or come off in my mask. It’s also super lightweight and goes on easily without primer.
I was so tempted to buy that Wool& dress for the 100 Day Dress challenge but since I am terrible at returning clothes I buy online, I decided not to risk it (and after this week’s “It’s Been A Minute” I am going to try and avoid buying clothes online for good).
I am now 100% off social media and I am so much happier. It took 20% of my life, but no more!

I heard that episode too – very shocking. I just assumed everything I returned went back on the shelf so to speak.

Kim and Jenn I think returns would be a great topic for the podcast. How much we buy and why (hoping it will be the perfect handbag, pants, coat, etc., or to fill an emotional void), how much we return, and what happens to those returns. I know I buy and return too much!

Some beautiful green suede clogs from Clogsland, via Etsy, via Poland. It’s waaaaay too easy to order random instagram temptations on your phone in the middle of the night. Alas, they don’t fit my tricky foot. Size 40, if anyone’s interested!

I tend to shun products that are heavily advertised on social media, but Rumi Cosmetiques played a mascara ad on my insta feed that promised a gentle, clean, older-eye-friendly product. After 45 years of wearing mascara daily, I had mostly given it up because suddenly it made my eyes itchy and dry. I gave the mascara a shot. It works for me, and while I’ll never go back to daily eye makeup, I’m no longer reserving it for the most formal occasions.

I have been searching everywhere for well made, comfortable, and beautiful flats since J Crew stopped making their shoes in Italy. The CeCe was my favorite flat but also very hard on my feet. The brand Margaux kept popping up in my IG feed and stories so I thought I would give them a shot. They are so very comfortable and beautifully made. They have both rounded and pointed versions (as well as heels, clogs, and boots) and they have a fun collab with Schumaker. I also got a great pair of woven leather mules by Liberte.

When did J Crew quality tank? I remember living in those exact flats for years. I moved on from the style but didn’t realize the show quality matched the decline of their clothing quality. That said, I just ordered a dress from them – my first purchase in a few years – so we shall see.
