I feel like jumpsuits, like clogs and motorcycle jackets before them, are once-trendy items that have now morphed into classics. I know the bathroom issue makes them a non-starter for many of you, and fair enough, but for one-and-done dressing, they can’t be beat, and I dig their slouchy coolness. The top half of this one is more fitted than most, and nicely put-together-looking.
I really like Universal Standard’s option in this category: the wide legs are smart and flattering.
The old-school sweatpants leg on this one from Norma Kamali are so appealing, and I like the jersey fabric too.
Here’s one from Alex Mill that checks all the utilitarian-chic boxes and comes in a nice assortment of colors.
Relatedly, this comes in a pretty good army green too, but how striking is it in white?
A super-chic choice to wear belted or unbelted.
Something about the cut of this strikes me as more feminine than your average jumpsuit. I also really like the jade hue (though it, too, comes in other colors).
A cute and chicly casual jumpsuit for wearing whenever.
For those concerned about the bathroom issue, I can highly recommend the Pstyle: https://www.thepstyle.com/. I use this for hiking and backpacking, but it would be great for travel, jumpsuit-wearing, or anytime one needs to stealth pee! 🙂
Really great roundup as I am a fan of jumpsuits. I especially like the elegant one from Norma Kamali. The bathroom issue is real but also doesn’t actually cause me more trouble than a long or full skirt — both require maneuvering excess fabric. I always wear a camisole under my jumpsuits and one is already exposed / somewhat nude while using the loo.
Sorry about the side snark, but Alex Mill, do you really think that a 44″ bust + 49″ hip = XXL? Average measurements for American women are 41″ and 43″, repectively!

I applaud all the jumpsuit aficionados out there and if anyone can make it work I know the GOACA’s can do it , but I will never. The combo of the 70’s memories of wedgies and bathom mishaps will stay with me forever. Godspeed to all who go forth.
I LOVE jumpsuits. For some reason even though I’m 5’1, they seem to really work on me and are less overwhelming than maxi dresses. The drapey ones are more flattering on than the mechanic ones, though. That Kamali is calling my name, and it’s available in my size on eBay for $69.00.
I love jumpsuits! That said, I have a large capacity bladder and need minimal pitstops. I love that jade one, and may have to find a reason to buy it. I also love the Norma Kamali and there are others if you punch through. I have an Alex Mill dusty pink one from several years ago that I get compliments on when I wear it out. I am super long waisted, and have not found it to be a problem in sizing. I’ve just ordered my usual size. Fun post, thanks!
I’ve been jumpsuit-curious for a while, but haven’t quite dared pull the trigger. For a size larger than 12 and a more entry-level/experimental pricing, I was eyeing the two Target versions below (long and short sleeves). Anybody tried either of these?
Long sleeves: https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-long-sleeve-button-front-boilersuit-universal-thread-8482-green-0/-/A-85328426
Short sleeves: https://www.target.com/p/women-s-short-sleeve-button-front-boilersuit-universal-thread/-/A-87460639
I have that jumpsuit! Larger than size 12. I have it in the rose color. I love it and consistently get compliments when i wear it. Literally every single time i wear it, i have people ask me where i got it. i love it so much.
if you decide to go for a fancy jumpsuit, I LOVE the Rachel Antonoff jumpsuits. I find them true to their measurements provided for sizing. And the velour ones are superfun and cozy.
Also, for larger sizes Wild Fang has good jumpsuits. I get their high-waisted ones and find them to fit well.
I wore Navy flightsuits to work for years — and the flightsuit, while perfect for men, is a total pain for women, especially when there’s limited privacy and no real bathroom facilities. The jumpsuit is just an extension of this. Yes, I can now use the bathroom privately, however, I don’t like my clothing pooled (no pun intended) on a filthy public bathroom floor. Gross.
The pooling of fabric is an issue I take with the wide legged pants that have become my go to these days. It doesn’t matter whether the fabric is stiff or soft- it will be certain to drag in the muck. Btw, Bette, I am curious about what you did in the Navy!
I haven’t yet pulled the trigger on a jumpsuit yet either, and I feel the same about overalls. I just don’t have the confidence!
This may be an unpopular sentiment, but I stand by my assertion that if you like how you look in a given jumpsuit – a non-jumpsuit will look 10X better. I especially dislike all the ones that make the wearer look like a mechanic.
Never thought I’d love a jumpsuit as much as I do now. Love that Alex Mill one. I got something similar and can’t help but mention the brand here, because they do them in button up, belted and zip variations, and some lovely colours: Horses Atelier https://www.horsesatelier.com/collections/jumpsuits
I always think about trying the knit jumpsuits that are more like onesies or overalls, but I haven’t had to courage to pull the trigger yet. They look so comfy! Though not really professional I guess.
Just my two cents – I think the drapier ones can look rather elegant. Put some jewelry on and there you go. (But, it’s probably important to not take fashion advice from me! Ha. No. ; ) )
I think proportions for jumpsuits is everything. My daughter (in her 40’s) wears one occasionally––she has absurdly long legs (not inherited from me) and looks fantastic. I have absurdly short legs (inherited from no one in my family that I can find) and look like I don’t own a mirror or have any fashion sense in my DNA what-so-ever. Having said all that I really like the Alex Mill jumpsuit. It looks polished, yet still comfy.
Agree that they work better on us with long legs.
Big Bud Press has myriad colors and prints and comes in a huge size range.

Love Big Bud!
I just visited the Big Bud store on Orchard Street on the Lower East Side for the first time — it’s so sweet! Extremely cute tile floor and decor in general, friendly shop staff, and sizing goes up to 5x and looks true to size.
I have a denim boiler suit from H&M and love the thick, soft fabric, but holy crap, the pee issues are real. The issue with this one is that the buttons stop at the waist and there’s no zipper between the waist and crotch, so I practically have to dislocate my shoulders like some kind of terrifying cryptid to get both arms out of the long sleeves and wiggle the suit down my body like a snake shedding its skin to use the toilet. I really need to check out the Universal Standard version — I’m wearing a pair of their denim overalls as I type this and they are magical: dark, stretchy, colorfast, and body skimming in a perfect way, which is no mean construction feat when you’re a 16-18.
These are a great option and super cheap. I have the green and I like it better than the Everlane one I paid $100 more for. https://www.target.com/p/women-39-s-long-sleeve-button-front-boilersuit-universal-thread-8482-green-2/-/A-85328427
Many of these look nice – but, I still don’t understand cropped jumpsuits. If you want to show skin, then why wear all that fabric in the first place? … … … I might shop the aftermarkets for one of these, bc I need one for actual chores. There’s no law that says I have to look bad while doing stuff, after all.
For those of you who have successfully entered jumpsuit world, how did you deal with measuring yourself all the way around? I don’t think just the “rise” is going to tell me enough. Plus in general I don’t like tight clothes. Do you measure yourself all the way around from the crotch to one of the shoulders?
