I’ve been pretty good about not buying a ton of new stuff lately, but the promise of a changing season has got me motivated again. I just ordered these jeans, which are a good dark grey, and have cute trouser pockets on the rear.
Whenever I step out in my near-daily uniform of jeans and a button-down, I try to include a bright, vaguely ethnic belt to mix things up a bit.
I like the utility pockets on this shirt, and the fact that it’s lightweight enough for a seriously hot day.
These orangey-red jeans are in my shopping cart as I type: I love the idea of bright pants—there’s something kind of Euro about them—and I’d just wear them with a crisp white shirt, like above.
A cute graphic tee for wearing under a blazer.
I will not give up on the notion of shorts, especially when they’re as well-tailored as this pair from Vince.
The contrasting stripes on this shirt are subtle and fun, and it’s quite well-priced.
off topic here, but I just reread your essay on the Conde Nast holiday lunch that was reposted on The Cut this morning. Such a brilliant piece of writing and made me excited once again to read your memoir when it’s published.
I looked at The Cut and didn’t see this essay, any help on how to locate it would be great. Thanks.
I found the essay via Google, brilliant work. I also suffer from depression and can fully identify with your feelings when a social interaction is foisted upon you or just the simple task of navigating a day alone at home. I so enjoy your writing. Thanks for being there via GOACA for me, Kim.
Thanks so much for the kind words about that piece. Here is a link. https://www.thecut.com/2016/11/fake-smiles-and-blowouts-at-cond-nasts-holiday-lunch.html
Thank you, Kim, for sharing about yourself. I don’t feel alone when I know there are other sufferers of depression and anxiety out there.
I just bought the Loft striped shirt. Thanks for the heads-up!
I bought it to, but alas when it arrived I realized that LOFT had hired a skilled photographer, and that the shirt was actually kinda cheap looking. It’s going back for a refund.
*too
(aaaaand my wallet is $8 lighter bc LOFT doesn’t cover returns. Oh well…)
One could argue that needlepoint belts with lobster motifs are “ethnic.”
I know I’m being kind of a snot here, but as an old school left-of-center WASP living in a wonderful multi-ethnic community I was so happy when they renamed the “ethnic” food aisle as per the sources, i.e. Latin, Asian, etc. Seems like by calling non-Anglo groups “ethnic” we perpetuate something that shouldn’t be perpetuated.
OK. Getting off my soapbox
I understand and appreciate your point, Lisa, but I’m calling a pattern ethnic, not a group (although I supposeI could have said “vaguely Mexican”).
I don’t think you need to apologize for the gentle reminder! It’s due to be removed from the fashion adjective style guide (see also “exotic”).
Great deal on the Loft shirt and right now free shipping! On a side note, I was able to read your WSJ article, well written and I really enjoyed it. Congrats!!
Thanks for the reminder! I googled the piece and was able to get past the pay wall.
Thanks, guys, and for anyone else looking for the piece, it’s here: https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-one-dress-women-of-every-age-should-own-1521735534
Bummer, can’t read without subscribing!
I applaud your faith in shorts, as mine has died. I’ve had to move shorts to the ‘vacation, workouts, yard work and errand running’ bin for some time…..despite so much leg work at the gym
Yup, me also…
can’t do shorts for style, only function.
All nice choices. But is it just me who cannot look at another ‘front-tuck?’ Ugh. It’s completely out worn its welcome for me.
That tee + those jeans = my platonic ideal of a late spring errand-running ensemble. I would add a pair of crazy Rachel Comey acrylic earrings though, because I’m bonkers like that.
omg I am craving the Rachel Comey Factor earrings…
With the resounding affirmation of the RC earrings, I’ve got to check them out!
Thinking those shorts with a cotton cami and blazer will appear this summer.
I just bought a slightly faded pair of bright red ankle length jeans. I tried them on for fun but I love them now. I wore them with a gray sweatshirt and vans today, and I might wear them to work tomorrow with a button down shirt and loafers. So cute. I feel totally ready for spring now!
As I sit looking out my window at 5” of snow, I’m ever so jealous of you GOACAers that live in warm climates. I haven’t even considered putting my sweaters away. Some sunshine on a regular basis would do a lot for my spirits right about now! (So would those orangey jeans!)
The weather is all over the place where I am. I haven’t put away my wool either, but I did (tentatively, worried I was jinxing things) pull out a couple of spring-weight dresses with 3/4 sleeves, and my ankle-length jeans.
Good for you, Heather! You’ve got hope.
