Things I bought, things I want

30

I’m not buying many new clothes for spring because I honestly don’t think I need much, but that didn’t stop me from making a couple of rather splurgy Nili Lotan purchases: this season, she has made her Paris pants in such a good khaki and they are perfect, perfect, perfect. I know some of you will not abide a drop crotch, but they’re actually pretty flattering.

I purchased this cotton and lace shirt too—it’s tomboyish like any button-down, but the lace adds a nice dose of femininity.

I found this seersucker shirt at Cos, and I think it would be fantastic tucked into those Paris pants.

Just a happy little top in a cute color combination.

One of my dearest friends is having a baby girl in a few months, and I’m so excited for multiple reasons, one of which is that most of my friends and both of my brothers have had nothing but boys, so I never had anyone to buy a sweet little Liberty baby dress for. But now I do, and I’m thinking of going for this adorbs pink number.

I plan on wearing shirtdresses all summer, and this navy one is pretty good, and rings in at just under $100.

I’m still digging yellow at the moment, and am thinking of going for this Alex Mill sweatshirt, which—in addition to its excellent hue—has a nice boxy cut and an appealingly relaxed neckline.

And here’s a cashmere sweater that comes in a few other good colors, is well-priced, and looks as comfy as the above sweatshirt.

And finally, here’s a lovely top for wearing now with a cardi and later on all on its own.

Beautiful items! A recommendation on the adorable liberty print baby dress. Either size it for a newborn or a toddler. With three girls, watching them try and crawl while wearing a dress is watching baby frustration and rage in real time. The knees catch on the hem and stops them cold. Also, love a baby Peter Pan collar anything 🙂

Any advice about Nili Lotan sizing? I recently decided to treat myself and ordered the Casablanca pants in my usual Medium (I’m a 6 or 8, 28 in jeans), and they were *tiny,* more like an Extra-Small. I couldn’t pull them over my hips. I’m curious to try again–yes, even a drop crotch–but need some guidance!

I am a solid 27 in most brands of pants/jeans, but had to go up to a 28 in the Paris pant. On the flip side, I find that Nili Lotan tops run quite generous.

On the Nili Lotan site, they usually indicate how the pants run. I find the Paris, Easthampton, and Tel Aviv pants are TTS, the Jenna pants run a bit small, and I don’t have any experience with the rest.

That baby dress is soooo lovely, she needs two!! I wonder what that print is. (Don’t dare me to do it, bc I might, someday. Maybe not in pink though.) … … The dropped crotch pants. I wish I could get it, but I still can’t see it, the flattery. This is what’s fun about fashion though I guess. Being open to a new look, for other people. I don’t know that I’ve seen any of these IRL. I will keep an eye out. It’s spring. People have been stuck inside. *Now* is the moment for DC pants, if there ever was one. And that’s a big if! (sorry) … … … Super cute tops.

I love the look of the Nili Lotan Paris pants, but the advantage of being 60 is knowing what works for oneself and what doesn’t. They would not do me any favors. And I know this makes me more “16-yr old boy” than 60-yr old woman, but ever since reading Sophie’s Choice, I cannot hear seersucker without thinking c*cksucker!

Kim, your shirtdress is inspiring – I would LOVE to see a round-up of casual, un-fussy dresses for our reemergence. My whole body craves shedding my cocoon of sweats and looking glorious and fun every day.

i tried i really tried to love the drop crotch. yet my figure type for which no one will pity me (slim hipped) the crotch comes almost to my knees and looks completely crazy. i’ve been so good with retail restraint but lapsed this past weekend (it was vacation! does that count??) and caved to the All Saints sale…a crazy purchase…the cropped biker jacket in pale pink (!!!) it’s already in my imagination for such a long time with summer dresses…..

Never owned a dropped crotch pant that wasn’t knit-ish, chiffon, satiny, or gauze so I am not sure how the Nili fabric would behave. Also– I am firmly in the pro camp when it comes to a DC pant. Love, love, love that Norah frill-but-not-frilly top. Sadly, It won’t go with my post-pandemic hair (I went from platinum-streaked layered overgrown lob to bronde-7o’s stoner-shag.)

I would love to see a picture of your hair, kimbersam!! It sounds really fun. Also, I don’t understand why a stoner-shag can’t go with that last top? Are you worried about a Stevie Nicks thing? Bc that’s a feature …? I know what you mean though generally. There are a lot of things I don’t wear bc I wear glasses. Although that may just be an excuse.

i totally get that. In my pic i’m rocking what is literally the last time i have ever blown out my hair…i’m now a fully transitioned curly naturalista (Think Bon Jovi in the 80’s – he called. He wants his hair back!) and i definitely feel like it can be “too much” with certain looks.

My goodness, I am blushing. Thank you! I may never, ever leave this comment thread! My cut looks like a blonde/brown version of this https://tinyurl.com/7kenyxkp I wish I could style it this nicely every day but perfect-messy-rocker is a huge commitment. And in response to Viajera, I love a good Stevie look, just not on me. I’m more of a femme Joey Ramone

I’m not against dropped crotch pants, but I’m never sure how they’d work with my height, being a Tall of Short person. Can I just add, Kimbersam, that in your comments, you always sound like a person with good hair. I can’t explain why it is that I feel this, (or, for that matter, why I always hear Viajera’s comments spoken in a playful second soprano voice), but to me, you sound like you have good hair. Though, not all is mysterious: I know why I always hear Mamavalveeta sounding kind of like Laura Dern. I have noticed that boho luxe, sexy earth women, be they Mamavalveeta, Ms. A. Linett, or my former next door neighbor, all kind of sound like Laura Dern. I can’t explain what makes a speaker sound like she has rock’n’roll hair, but I know it when I hear/read it.

D., I don’t know what that is, I’ll have to google, but, I will be practicing my vocal stylings! I think in the Saint Saens animals series, I’d have been maybe a – well I was going to say recorder, but those are annoying – hmm. Maybe one of those pipes with the thing that you pull? Are those from the Marx Brothers?

Anthro doesn’t include any info about the pants pictured with the “happy little top,” which means I’m free to carry on with my fantasy that they would would fit me in a way that flatters even upon ditching the belt-thingy (do built in belts remind anyone else of the Sears catalog?) and not get filthy within 10 minutes of my putting them on.

I have some adidas drop crotch track/pants/joggers. Wasn’t sure going in if it was going to work but actually kinda love it. Makes me feel hip and cool with stella mccartney sneaks. I figure if I am full time teleworker, might as well up my athleisure game.

Raquel Allegra and others make drop crotch pantsthat are super comfy and cute. I don’t own any of the NL pants but I’m sure that they have a similar fit as others that I own. And no need to put down what you don’t get. If it’s not for you just pass without comments—this isn’t middle school?!

Are we still shopping at Anthro? No judgment, but they are terrible offenders for copying indie designs, most recently this Feb: https://twitter.com/mremilyheller/status/1366103229927280641?lang=en I stopped buying about a year ago when the BLM/targeting came out. Just me, but wanted to flag as I know everyone here’s pretty conscientious.

I always enjoy your bought/want posts. It’s like seeing into someone’s closet without being too voyeuristic. As I get older and the need for an adult diaper becomes my reality I imagine drop crotch will suddenly become more attractive. 😏 Yesterday marked my two week post second vaccine so this morning I’m going out for breakfast tacos (outdoor seating) with a dear friend I haven’t seen in person in a year. It took me thirty minutes to figure out what to wear. I’m post pandemic vaccine style stressing. But while I contemplated my closet I couldn’t help but think about the recent EIF podcast with you, Kim, and Jenn reflecting on how your style has changed with age and the effects of the pandemic. I started laughing all over again and THAT was a great feeling.

I might (big MIGHT) be able to get used to the diaper look but don’t think I could ever get used to the fabric bunching upon sitting down – where is it SUPPOSED to go?

I KNOW!!!!! Such a conundrum! And does that bunched up fabric get wrinkled when you sit down meaning when you stand up again do you have a “massive wrinkled crotch?!?!?!?!” (tiny brain explodes)
