Things I bought, things I want

I love the look of corduroy jeans, but I’ve had a really challenging time finding any that flatter me—until this fantastic pair from 6397. At first I thought they were going to be too tight, but after a couple of wears they became the just-right amount of slouchy.

And I also quite like these side-stripe pants from Current Elliot: they’re not exactly cheap, but they are cheaper than Nili Lotan’s Easthampton pant—which they strongly resemble.

Just a really good graphic tee for layering under a blazer or cardigan.

I pretty much live in shirtdresses once summer rolls around, and while I know that’s not going to happen for a while, I’m thinking of going for this little number from J. Crew, which comes in a few good colorways.

This Anine Bing jacket has an oversize feel, but doesn’t come off too boxy, and I dig the nubby texture.

I continue to enjoy wearing wireless bras—they’re so much more comfortable—but often, they aren’t quite as sexy. This one is, though, and I love the super-thin straps.

These tapered sweatpants from Madewell look like the perfect thing for morning dog walks.

This plaid raincoat is so damn spiff.

The Nili Lotan sale is going great guns—discounts top off at 70%—and I am especially enamored of this houndstooth coat; the orange is so unexpected, and the fit is both laid-back and menswearish.

I also very much like this puffer from Theory, which has a chic built-in scarf.

These lounge-y pants are so cool, and as you well know, I always like a side stripe.

A sweater jacket like this feels like a just-polished-enough option for work Zoom calls.

Those Current Elliot side stripe pants are intoxicating both for the stripe and for the mid-rise! As I always say when 6397 jeans are posted––they are my absolute favorite pair of jeans (three pair) and I can wear both my regular size and a size down for a slimmer fit. Just saying…

CW, If memory serves me, you are short, yes? An affirmative answer may tip the scales here. (Don’t mean to be stalkerish, just looking for jeans that actually fit….).

I am almost positive that CW is on the shorter side. The reason I think this is that whenever CW comments favorably on jeans or pants, I instinctively think, “Ooh, maybe a pair that doesn’t have to be altered.” So, I think she must have indicated her height at some point and I filed it away in a mentally sloppy fashion. I myself am 5’3″, which I like to call the Tall of Short. So, my hunch is that CW is either Short or Tall of Short, given my associating her jeans’ recs with not having to alter jeans. Like putting chocolate chips in brownies, having to get jeans altered fills me with disproportionate rage. So, I too was buoyed up with hope when I noticed CW’s favorable report of 6397.

I hear you on the rage, D.! I am curious – is there an inseam length upon which a sizable number of the non-tall could agree? Bc then, the mfrs should just make that an option for people. I am in the middle range, and plus, I always feel like I “should” wear heels, while knowing I basically won’t, so there is always length uncertainty. … … … … But I really came on just to say (for no good reason) that whenever I eat a brownie, I realize that what I really want is chocolate cake. I don’t like them. And I have no idea why, since I like all the ingredients. Same with most fudge. A (very) minor mystery.

D.Morgendorffer you are the Hercule Poirot of commenters! (only, of course, without the mustache) Yep, 5’2″!! And, yes, no hemming required of the 6397’s.

Loved reading Christie as a child, so delighted with the compliment. Wouldn’t even mind if anyone thought I DID have his beautifully waxed mustache, such is my regard for his “little, grey cells”.

Thanks, D! I, too, rage at having to alter jeans – but do prefer chocolate chips in brownies – nuts in their place make me rage!

Yes, me too – I don’t want nuts in my dessert. Except, if they grind up the almonds into flour, and make the entire dessert out of that, then that can be delicious. I guess I don’t make sense. However, I sympathize.

I’m not particularly tall, at 5’5”, but I’m enjoying the longer, looser jeans currently all the rage. But I’m not bothering to hem, just cuffing, and enjoying not having cold ankles!

I am also considering an optimistic & early purchase of the JCrew dress. I like all the colors available, the cut is classic and perfect, and I believe if I buy it we will have a sunny and balmy spring. And everyone will get their vaccine. And we will be able to visit with others while wearing interesting clothes.

Thanks to Kim, I now love a pant with a side stripe too. I haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet, but am continually looking for a pair. The Current/Elliot pair is very cool, but balking at the 27.5″ inseam. I now only buy “short” or petite inseams.
