Things I bought, things I want

25

I have made the switch to wireless bras, and I don’t think I’m ever going back. My favorite brand for them is Negative Underwear, because they’re so comfy and highly supportive at the same time, which is a tough trick to pull off. My most recent purchase is this plunge bra, which is so soft it’s crazy.

On Saturday afternoon, I took the dog for a stroll, and ended up at the Rachel Comey store on Crosby Street, which is one of my favorite boutiques in which to browse, due to the charming staff and eclectic selection. I’d been eyeing this sweatshirt for quite some time and finally pulled the trigger (although, because I am highly predictable, I purchased it in black). I love the puffy three-quarter sleeves, which make it more dressed-up than your average sweatshirt.

I want want want this denim jumpsuit: I like the tapered legs, adjustable waistband, and slightly faded-out wash of the denim.

I found this excellent fleece coat at Uniqlo, and think it looks just as good as similar items that cost four times as much or more (it also comes in black, fyi). I also like this collarless one, also from Uniqlo.

Another Uniqlo find: this Heattech ballet top would be excellent layered under a V-neck sweater so just a hint of lace shows through. I know it’s a little premature to be showing you winter under-layers, but I have a hunch this will sell fast.

Just a really good pair of stretch twill chinos that look like they could be Nili Lotan but cost a whole lot less.

These lace up shearling boots are also a little premature to be showing you, but like the Uniqlo top, I think they’ll go fast. They’re by an Italian brand called Diemme, and I think they’ve got a distinctly Euro-chic vibe.

I found a mother lode of Nili Lotan marked way, way down at Nordstrom Rack, and among the offerings was this dress, which I purchased at the beginning of the summer, and no I’m not the least bit bitter that now it’s going for so much less than I paid, not bitter at all.

You know I like white outerwear—it’s just so fresh and crisp-looking. This coat is more of a creamy hue, which is loads easier to maintain that straight-on white, and I think the cut is very luxe.

This long-sleeved polo shirt is just so slouchy and cool. And it’s cheap enough that you could buy it in more than one color.

I think these cropped wide leg leather pants are super-cool; I’d wear them just as shown here (albeit with lower-heeled boots) and if my ankles froze, they froze. Here’s something similar but cheaper.

Is this the year I finally go for the pair of shearling Birkenstocks I’ve been craving for ages? Time will tell. They’re an excellent stand-in for these pricier Jenni Kayne moc clogs I’ve also been coveting.

Madewell has read the room and created a new loungewear line called MWL, and it’s full of pieces I could see myself wearing, like this hoodie with a stylishly thick drawstring.

I just got those shearling lined Birkenstock moc clogs because I realized I needed more arch support than my regular slippers were providing. They’re awesome and really cute with lots of things.

I just ordered that Madewell top in black – it just looks perfect.
Now I want some shearling Birks.

Kim: That bra looks really awesome. Is the material thick enough to have some coverage from “headlights”? (sorry tmi people)

I really love the sweatshirt and would you believe I don’t own one? I’ve been looking for The One and here it is.

That Uniqlo fleece coat is perfect for pre-winter here in Virginia.
Thanks for including it and reminding me that I need a few more of their indispensable Heattech shirts, too.

I love Uniqlo but their shipping is horrible, I am in Atlanta and even the 3 day shipping is late. I feel better after I get my purchases but it is really a turn off. I will definitely try the bra, thanks so much!

That black/grey denim jumpsuit has a very 80s Espirit vibe to it – which I am digging even though I am not a jumpsuit person. It’s kinda perfect

I’m seriously considering the bra. Aside from reluctantly wearing a sports bra for working out, I don’t think I have worn a bra in seven months. And I can’t see myself wearing a wired bra on a daily basis ever again so I really appreciate the recommendation Kim!

Ugh..I kind of want it all.
However I’m gonna needs that shirt dress first. Since school is happening via zoom right now, my plan is to load the family ( and the family dog) into the car and zoom from somewhere warm. So I can totally justify buying a summer dress..
How does it run? I’m sort of between sizes..

I bought that dress too! I got a M and it fit well. I tend to be about an 8 . I am a bit “curvy” and can’t do many a Nili Lotan pant (despite loving all of them) but the dress fit perfectly. I feel like I need styling tips with it though….so I do not look like I am a frump wearing a nightshirt.

It runs pretty true to size, Caroline. Maybe just slightly small.

It’s ridiculous how excited I still get over new clothes.

Loads of “wants” in this posting. Because I’m fixing to head back to Texas I won’t be pulling the trigger on anything until I return home. No doubt my 14 day quarantine period will max out my credit card. And speaking of traveling…I received an e-mail from JetBlue yesterday that said I MIGHT or might NOT need a Covid-test to prove that I don’t have Covid before I’m allowed to fly. This e-mail arrived hours after the woman died from Covid on a flight from Arizona so I’m guessing the airlines are doing everything they can to protect themselves from lawsuits. Confusion anyone? Argh.

Thank you, Eloise! I’ve got gloves, goggles, a head wrap, neosporin for inside my nose and a plastic bag for all my clothes when I step inside my condo. #beprepared

Oh no! My daughter was required to have a negative nasal swab test to fly out of JFK Monday (on Avianca), but a mother and son next to her were turned away because they’d only had the saliva test. That would be a real bummer. I’ll be very happy when 2020 is in the rear view mirror.

We got 7 inches of snow in Minneapolis yesterday so none of these are premature – and those boots are perfect. 🙂

Seconding the shearling Birks. I wore Ugg slippers around the house for years and last winter, got a pair of the Birks for my birthday. Wore them for the first time a few weeks ago and have not taken them off my feet in days. So good!

Funny, I ordered those Birks the night before this was posted (Claire Mazur convinced me on the A Thing or Two podcast, which I love). I wear Arizonas all summer but hadn’t taken the plunge on a shearling pair for winter. Counting the days til they get here. And, on your recommendation, placed an order for a Negative Underwear bra and am curious to see how it works — a little afraid of a uniboob effect, but we shall see, and that probably wouldn’t stop me from wearing it, at least in the house, anyway.

I bought those exact Birkenstocks last winter and I still love them completely. Totally worth every penny.
