Like many of you, I’ve been trying not to do a lot of shopping right now, but I might have to make an exception for some of the items that follow, starting with this Mansur Gavriel bag, which has a great squishy shape, and is the perfect small-but-not-too-small size for when you’re traveling light.
I did spring for these safety orange camo sandals at the beginning of the summer, and they are killing it on the cost-per-wear front. They kind of go with nothing, so I’ve decided to wear them with everything. And they’re desperately comfortable.
The yellow leopard print on this Anine Bing shirt would be fantastic with khakis, as shown here, or with white jeans, and in a few months it’d be equally great under a blazer.
These twisted hoop earrings look super-classic and fancy, but they’re dirt cheap.
I like the preppy vibe of these slip on sneakers, and could see them looking cute with a T-shirt dress.
Love animal prints though I do, I don’t typically adore them on footwear. But these sandals are pretty damn cute, and they’ve got a bit of a platform sole.
Such a good red slouchy tee—it comes in several other colors too—and it’s currently marked down.
I neglected to bring a beach cover-up to Sag Harbor when I came out here last month, so I’ve been making do with what I’ve got, but I sure would like to add this Emerson Fry short caftan to my caftan arsenal.
Speaking of khakis, Kim, would you have any interest in doing a post on those? I’ve been looking for some, feeling a classic 90s fit, full length, not too expensive. I don’t really want stretch but might take a small amount. Haven’t found them yet!
Is the sizing of the “safety orange camo sandals” the same as the sizing of Birkenstocks?
Yes, pretty much.
I dig the bright orange slides and agree with your theory. … what is the cloud thing about? Just being nosy!
Never mind … the cloud is the name of the little purse. It’s a good name.
I love the caftan, but did you notice that there isn’t a photo of the *front* of it?? That’s so weird – who’d buy it without knowing what the front looked like?
They show the front on the pink version.
That is weird! For those that would like to see the front, scroll down on her site to find the same caftan in the “Muted Clay” color way. There are front pics of the caftan on the model and off
Ha! I hadn’t even noticed they didn’t show the front! If it is like the one I purchased last year, the front has a deep “V.” Not so deep that you have to worry about “fall out.” The added bonus to these caftan’s is there’s a string tie inside the front that you can tie behind you so the front becomes more form fitting––ergo you don’t look so much like you’re wearing an extra large flowy pillow case.
I’m pretty certain the reason they don’t show the front is that Emerson Fry herself is doing the modeling & doesn’t want to show her face for whatever reason. But I agree, it’s weird!
That caftan print is great! I appreciate the inspiration for a search term better suited to my short height: “short caftan”– that had not occurred to me before :/
Love the mini cloud. What color are you thinking?
I like the red and the blush, but I’d probably be highly predictable & go for the black.
None of my bee’s wax but red is a neutral, and a good poppy-color investment.
That caftan is so cute, but it also looks like something anyone with even basic sewing skills could make with a pattern, since it appears to be two fabric panels sewn together. This would be a fun pandemic hobby. Any sewers here who have pattern recommendations?
I bought this one off Etsy but haven’t attempted it yet – the one on the right looks a lot like the Emerson Fry one to me. https://www.amazon.com/Simplicity-Creative-Patterns-US8505A-Pattern/dp/B07795M2DB
I saw that and thought the same thing. It looks too complicated for me. Haven’t done a zipper in a while. It’s pretty much exactly the same as that great Emerson Fry one, though.
No zipper! Just has the internal ties to contain the volume. Still haven’t tried to make it yet, but I am inching closer. The pattern is so important when there’s that much fabric.
I’ve been searching my heart out for a good caftan pattern, but without much success, Liz. I’ll let you know if I find one.
I know, I haven’t really seen any, either, which is so weird. Maybe Etsy would have some? Off to check.
Do you know the book “Nani Iro Sewing Studio”? http://www.japanesesewingbooks.com/2019/04/16/book-review-nani-iro-sewing-studio-now-in-english/
Especially the “Pleated Tunic Dress” would make an excellent caftan and I can’t wait to make it 🙂
Kim, it is making me strangely paranoid that you seem to post the EXACT thing I’m searching for! The gold rope hoop earrings are spot-on. Thanks!
Any time, Val. xx
Love those white slip-ons AND the shown-with daisy pants! Highly recommend the short Emerson Fry beach cover-up caftan.
