I love sunglasses, but I hate every single trend that’s happening in that universe right now. The tiny frames, the over-embellished ones, whatever crazy future-shock business business this is—all of it leaves me cold, or worse. But I do like the following quite a lot, starting with this cute, bright red-framed oval pair from Anine Bing.
These Karen Walkers are big and square and very statement-y, and I dig the purplish lenses.
These remind me of classic Wayfarers, but with a slightly more feminine shape.
You can’t beat a pair of old-school Ray Ban Clubmasters for a classically cool-girl look.
These are from the delightfully-named brand Crap Eyewear, and I think their yellowness is a perfect delight as well.
I owned a pair just like these wire frames in college, and found that something about the shape was more flattering than aviators for me, and now I want another pair, bad.
I do seem to have a thing for square-ish frames at the moment, and am very tempted by these too.
Cat-eye lenses are appealing, but can be unflattering on some faces, so I like this slightly rounder version. I like this thicker-framed version too.
And finally: I am not entirely certain why I love these, because they verge on being altogether too much. But I do.
JCrew has some really cute, affordable ones right now. I love the 70’s LA Girl vibe of these:

I use only reader bifocal sunglasses these days and would love to see a post on some fashionable ones.
Ooh, I love the red ones, and the Wayfarer-esque ones! I wear my regular glasses all the time, so my sunglasses are the ones that fit over regular glasses…super cool, let me tell you! (Truly though, I can recommend that if anyone else has to go that route, it is worth getting the kind that have some lens area open on the sides so you keep some peripheral vision.) I don’t know if there are any cool versions of the ones I wear, but for now it’s nice to see all of these lovelies in your round-up!
Love Karen Walker and anything tortoise shell. My square face requires roundish frames.
I am a HUGE believer in sunglasses. The more ozone we lose, the more important sunglasses become even on hazy not so sunny days so why not have a pair of sunglasses you love?!
I am addicted to sunglasses and wear them all the time, practically in the dark. I love aviators but also have a rough time finding a flattering pair.
I discovered my new favorite sunnies entirely by accident. I picked up a pair at the checkout at REI of all places. The brand is called Sunski, they sell stylish polarized sunglasses made of recycled plastic for like $50-60, and best of all, they are soooo lightweight.
I, like Kim, have a migraine condition, and I hadn’t realized to what extent the mere weight of normal sunglasses were triggering for me. (Not wearing sunnies isn’t an option for my light sensitivity). These guys are virtually weightless; I can wear them all day without discomfort. Highly recommend. Plus they sell lens replacement kits in case the lenses scratch. Very sustainable!
I get migraines as well, and clicked right over. Some of those are cute! Thanks for the tip : )
One of my most effective wrinkle inhibitors are my prescription sunglasses. I cannot live without them. This year though, I year FINALLY found a brand that fit my face just right. I’m quite narrow across the temples and have a longish thin face (potato shaped?!) Anyway, Shopbop carries the Illesteva brand and they really work for me. So happy with them! I actually got 2 pair and am looking at a third. They are my favourite and though pricey- I wear them almost EVERYDAY of the year. Especially when driving. I bought the Portofino in tortoise and the Sterling in a fun cotton candy shade. I get a lot of “where did you get those?” or “Can I try those on?”. Now I want the Leonard’s but can’t decide if I want them in Amber or Tortoise. Leaning towards the Amber, cause hey, it’s my name!
I would love to see a post on frames for prescription lenses. I can’t be the only one who has moved from here and there readers to full-time progressives!
You can get progressive lens put into any sunglass frames (or tinted lens into any regular frames). I just got my full-time progressives (https://articleoneeyewear.com/collections/optical/products/st-claire-tortoise) and love them. I splurged and got progressive lens put into these sunglasses: https://www.framesdirect.com/liz-claiborne-l.claiborn-561s-sunglasses?color=5014053
You can also opt for transition lens, but they don’t work in cars or if you want pictures taken outside they will be tinted. So, that’s why I opted for separate sunglasses.
I tried multi-focal contacts. Ugh. Hated them. Much prefer the progressive lens glasses.
I buy regular sunglasses and have prescription lenses put in. I also wear a slight progressive but in my sunglasses I just go with single vision. Much cheaper and still does the trick.
Ha! Thanks. I looked up the Illesteva site and they do also make prescription frames – although the pair I liked was back ordered.
I understand they’re not to everyone’s liking, but I use Fitovers, sunglasses that you can wear over your eyeglasses. Fitovers dot com
the link to the wire frame ones (with green lenses) isn’t working… 🙁
Hi Mel, that link is working OK for me; here is is again: https://rstyle.me/+EywS9L2qIYByI0M0i-m1Hg
Omg the tiny framed sunglasses that are supposedly in right now look so stupid to me. “Supposedly in”–that’s how hard of a time I have believing that anyone likes this look! Ha! I suppose it takes all kinds though…
I’ll take the hair in the Anine Bing pic, the Karen Walkers and the Crap.
