Department store beauty products never get marked down, ever. So for this big sale, brands participate by creating special, limited-edition versions of popular products that are often very good values. Like this massive (and cool-looking!) container of Kiehl’s ever-beloved Creme de Corps.
My brows are thinning something awful lately, and—while I debate whether or not to get microblading (has anyone had it? How is it?) I will make do with makeup, namely this kit from brow queen Anastasia.
I love my ghd curling iron: it heats quickly, is lightweight and skinny enough not to take up too much real estate in a suitcase, and gets the job done. And while we’re at it, I’ve also had good experiences with this T3 curling iron.
Five Mac mini lipsticks, for when you’re in the mood to try something new, but are not sure what that new thing is just yet.
People love this lash enhancing serum and swear it really works, so maybe before I go for the aforementioned microblading, I will give it a shot.
This self tanning mousse has die-hard fans because it’s easy to apply evenly, and the results are pretty natural.
How lovely would it be to throw this perfume travel trio from Diptique in your suitcase the next time you’re set to go away? The musky Fleur de Peau sounds especially appealing to me.
Malin & Goetz is a grooming line for men, but don’t let that stop you from sampling their goods: this body wash smells wonderfully or bergamot and leather.
My callouses are nasty, and even a pedicure only does so much to improve the situation. I’m quite interested in this product, which purports to break down the callous gradually.
Back when I was in my 40s and still breaking out, I went on an all-Kate-Somerville regimen, and my skin eventually cleared up. A key component of that regimen was this exfoliating wash, which is quite powerful, but also gentle enough to use on my sensitive skin. You don’t want to use it every day, though, so this jumbo tube will last a good long time.
Malin & Goetz is a grooming line for men?! I love that line of products, especially the B5 body lotion.
Re thinning brows–have you had your thyroid checked lately? When my doctor upped my dose my brows came back with a vengeance. Thinning out at the ends, especially, is a classic sign of low thyroid.
Went to several doctors when my brows were thinning–finally a dermatologist diagnosed me with frontal fibrosing alopecia. Brows go first, but my hairline will be receding over time. Sort of a bummer but I joke that it’s more a problem for those around me as I don’t need to look at myself much ;)! Definitely good to rule out any other medical issues, and glad your brows came back Margaret!
RE thinning brows, I have had GREAT success with NeuBrow, as well as the NeuLash you’ve already listed! I think the brow formulation may be a bit more high octane than the lash, so possibly worth springing for both. I started with twice-daily application and noticed results in just a couple of weeks. After using for a few months, I now aim to apply daily, forget maybe a third of the time, and have never been happier with my brows. Thank you as always, Kim, for the excellent finds!
Same!!
Ditto, Kate and Betsy!
I had the same experience Kate. Not only are my brows thicker but they seem darker as well.
I wish I had found this years ago. I would have saved a ton on brow pencils!
I also was pleasantly surprised by my results with the neubrow. Nordstrom offered a deal on 2 last December and I still have plenty left. I think the tube of 2 should last a me a year.
May I add my comments to the NeuBrow testimony? I actually learned about it from your buddy Andrea. It’s so good that after 4 months of use, I had to go get my previously sparse brows threaded and trimmed. And yes, they are a bit darker which I love.
I’ve been really tempted to get one of those brow growth serums, but I’ve read about bad side effects (esp. to products with prostaglandin). Even if they’re rare side effects, I’m not going to risk any impact to my (already bad) eye sight or risking periorbital fat atrophy or drooping eye lids. https://www.eyedolatryblog.com/2017/04/is-your-lash-growth-serum-causing.html
https://www.irisandromeo.com/products/brow-up?variant=41299692781753 this really helps make brows look thick, I do it after filling in sparse areas with the above mentioned Anastasia pencil.
I had my brows microbladed about a year ago. It fixed my whole face, really. Outside of the fact that they are actual painful vegetable pigment tattoos, and you look a little severe for about three weeks, it’s the best beauty thing I’ve done for myself in ages. I have had friends complain that the pigment eventually fades to red and that looks weird, so they wouldn’t do it again, but these were all women who were dying their hair dark colors so their brows needed to be just off black. Everyone’s body chemistry oxidizes the pigment at different rates, I am told. I could just about go in for a touch up but mine still looks great. Between that and lash extensions I very much enjoy rolling out of bed looking like myself, like a girl, without paying a whole bunch of mirror tax that I had resented my entire life anyway.
I have not tried microblading, but a friend of mine swears by it and her brows always look perfect and beautiful. She said it’s all about finding someone who knows what they’re doing––which seems obvious, but still…
I love NeuBrow & it has worked fantastically to return me to the bushy brows of my childhood, pre-plucking! FYI: Costco online has the old packaging version of NeuBrow for $40! The new packaging that just debuted also has a bit less product (0.12 vs 0.2) so this is a great deal. Stock up. https://www.costco.com/neubrow-brow-enhancing-serum,-0.2-fl-oz.product.100843919.html Costco also has Drunk Elephant BabyFacial for $60
Thank you Kimberly for this Costco tip – ADD TO CART! 🙂
There is the word, unassailable, but I think there should be a new word, un-a-saleable for people like me who gravitate towards the items not covered in a sale. So it goes, I just bought a Nordstrom beauty product not covered in the sale, Chantecaille Gel-Cream Blush. Being ridiculously pricey, I am sorry to say, it’s great. I might even another shade of it. Un-a-saleable.
D., Chantecaille has their big yearly sale coming up soon. Maybe you can find another shade there?
Oh, thanks for sharing that!
I had microblading done about 3 years ago and am nearing the point where I’ll get a touch up. I overplucked / stress-pulled my brows in the 80s and 90s and did permanent damage. I love the results from microblading – and would highly recommend (just do your homework and get a good, experienced person to do it).
I couldn’t resist and bought the brow and lash serum sets. The reviews were either love or hate, but you guys convinced me it was worth a shot.
Exfolikate is the best! I’ve been using it for years and although pricey a tube lasts forever. I use it a couple of days a week.
Also I recommend anyone in our age group to get your thyroid tested.
I dithered for a full year about getting my eyebrows microbladed, but finally did it and could not recommend it more. I had classic 90s overplucked brows and was really tired of filling them out every day – which was getting more and more difficult as my eyesight is getting worse! – but now I can just get up and go. I went to someone who was recommended by a friend (with perfect brows) which was what swung it for me in the end. Fair warning though…about 4 days in you’ll wake up looking like Mr Bean, but that only lasts a week or so!
Has anyone tried Revitabrow and NeuBrow? I’ve had good results with Revitabrow but wondering if it could be even better?
Also here to advocate for a brow growth serum + tinting your own brows. I’ve been using GrandeBROW with great results. I recently splurged on RevitaLash during a Dermstore 20% off sale that’s still going on, but haven’t tried that yet. After three or so months on the brow growth serum I decided last weekend to tint my brows using the $15 kit from Ardell (purchased at Ulta). Some of my hairs were either white or too fair to show up before tinting. It’s been an excellent fix!
Love Grandebrow. Excellent results and a tube last four months.
If you get your hair colored at a salon, they will gladly tint your brows at the same time.
My daughter and I bought a “Just for Men” beard dying kit to use for our brows and it’s SUPER easy to do yourself! I’d highly recommend it. I do it every two-3 months. https://www.target.com/p/just-for-men-mustache-beard-beard-coloring-for-gray-hair-with-brush-included/-/A-14332087?preselect=11046270#lnk=sametab
Also, if you want to lighten your brows a bit (dark brows can be harsh), 6 minutes of Jolene bleach works wonders for me. My hairdresser taught me the trick and it lasts 3-4 weeks
Put me in the thinning outer eyebrows club too. I bought RevitaBrow last year during the sale figuring I could return it if it didn’t work. Well, I bought it again this year.
I also started dying my eyebrows. Angie at You Look Fab said she dyes her brows using Refectocil. I copied her with great results.
I’m 51. Having thick, distinct eyebrows looks wonderful.
There are a lot of good brow comments, and I will offer one more. When I switched to a fragrance free shampoo and conditioner (Paula’s Choice), not only my scalp and hair benefitted, but I noticed an improvement in my brows and eyelashes as well. Both had been getting thinner but now are filling back in. I’ve also noticed an improvement in the skin on my neck, forehead, and ears. I think the fragrance in my previous shampoo/ conditioners had been an irritant, which is a new development for me.
Regarding brows: i get mine tinted at Boom Boom Brow bar on Greenwich Street. It lasts about 4 weeks. Very happy with that process
They are very nice at Boom Boom and know what they are doing. During lockdown I started doing my own brows, with just for men beard dye (on the advice of from Bigelow staff get a shade lighter than you think you need, and use vaseline around your brows to protect your skin) . I still go to BBB for eyebrow shaping.
About your feet/heels. Cream before bed every night!
