The (literally) coolest dresses I could find, part two

The yellow leopard print here reminds me of something Betsey Johnson might have done in her heyday.

An easy red gauze dress with a straightforward shape and especially flattering sleeves..

I know I often say certain items remind me of Maria Cornejo, but it happens to be true that I have a shirtdress from her that is shaped very much like this. And I dig the color.

How fun (and comfortable-looking) is this sundress? I always think rainbow stripes are most sophisticated when they include black in the mix.

A cool tank dress with a nice deep neckline; here’s something similar but slinkier.

Blue eyelet is rather pretty and unexpected, and the button front is sweet.

This has a slightly Grecian feel that’s rather lovely.

An apron shape that’s kind of covertly sexy.

The halter neck on this number is so feminine, and as you may be aware, I always love an acid-hued floral.

I also like a good black floral, and this one has a pretty classic girly-but-clean-lined silhouette.

A simple, well-priced cotton/modal shirtdress.

Another option I am hugely tempted by—it just looks so easy and elegant. Here it is in polka dots.

And I’m crazy for the tiny baby star print here.

And yet another one I really want: the eyelet is nice and subtle in black, and I like that the shape is ever-so-slightly  retroish.

A cute cotton caftan that looks like the essence of breeziness. A no-brainer of a vacation piece.

This shirtdress, with it Rorschach-y print, is very I Work in an Art Gallery.

A fun lemon print on such a delightfully voluminous dress.

A sweet corset shape that is alluring without being too obvious about it.

And finally: a fun party dress from Rachel Comey in a pretty perfect pink. The bra question here is an interesting one, but I suppose you could always use these.

Another very wearable selection! I have an almost identical to the Rag and Bone black tank dress I purchase three or four summers ago and it is such an easy throw on and slide into some sandals and go dress that I can highly recommend the purchase.

The “Grecian” dress is intriguing, its slouchiness even sexy. It might be the kind of dress you’d be happy wearing on a hot day when you’d really rather be naked. In the pictures it looks as if the waistline is hiked up above the model’s natural waist, both in front and back. Why would they do that???? The color is much greener (= prettier) on my iPad than on the computer, where it looks like putty. I’d belt it, of course, cause I gotta be me. Great selection of dresses. If only I could get away with wearing the apron dress without a bra.

Such beautiful frocks! I bought the Eileen Fisher red gauze dress in black and the shape is just perfectly loose but not oversized. A great summer basic.

Ooh, that first black eyelet one is so fabulous. Straps are even wide enough to wear a bra!

But booo, it maxes out at size 12. Fancy fashion, why do you do this? My size 14-16 self might well actually pay you $450 for the perfect sundress, but you never seem to want my money

I can’t say for sure, but it may be because there is a stigma to being average sized. The designers worry that if they are inclusive, the smaller people won’t buy their clothes anymore, and I guess they figure there are more small people with $$ than average sized ones. No idea if they are correct. We humans do tend to be complex that way.

I’ve seen other explanations having to do with the horrible trauma of having to adjust patterns … but I think that is balderdash.

You’re right—such awful, awful trauma to have to adjust a pattern. You know, they even need a different fit model!

On the other hand, there is all kinds of evidence that the fashion industry is just grossly sizeist, despite the fact that it is actually terrible business. This relatively recent survey shows just how bad things and how it gets worse as you go up the luxury scale: https://fashionista.com/2018/05/luxury-designer-plus-size-clothing-problem

Interesting piece. I do think a lot of these folks use “health” as an excuse, even though you can’t tell if someone is healthy just by their size. Ha, especially if you include mental health.

I also quibble with the idea that high fashion is what determines what’s in style. I’m not so sure about that. Could be more of a feedback loop with “street” style. Or just boredom.

Coolest dresses part two was as fantastic as part one, so many lovely options! If my budget could swing it, the DVF leopard print would be on its way to me, amazing dress!!
