Taking requests: Straw bags

13

Last week in the comments for the summer preppy post, a number of you shared that you’d like to acquire one of these, and they are just perfect in every way for summer, so here we go: the concentric squares on this one make it really nicely graphic, and I also dig the grey, which seems unexpected.

Things with hearts typically strike me as too twee by half, but I think this bag is just desperately cute. The hearts look like the ones on playing cards, I think.

Leather and straw look so excellently rich together.

Vanessa Bruno has been making a version of this sequin-embellished tote for years now, and it never really gets old.

The chain handle adds a nice touch of polish here, and the leather detail at the shoulder makes it a lot more comfortable to carry.

The leather-wrapped straps here are a great little touch, and the size is ideal for an afternoon at the beach.

Clare V’s diminutive Pot de Miel bag is just so sweet.

Another one from Vanessa Bruno that I think is particularly sophisticated-looking.

A cute striped number with fun pom-poms (that are removable in case you think they’re no fun at all).

The beading on this crochet tote bag gives it a modern edge—you could carry this on the street or to the beach.

A round-handle bag that is lined, which I know is important to some of you.

A very well-priced bag that looks all French and fancy.

This one looks pricey too—and if I’m honest, it’s not cheap—but I think it looks very refined and ridiculously expensive (like this Chloe bag, say).

This is a clever shape, and it’s currently marked down.

Of course I completely dig this Isabel Marant tote; it’d be the ideal carry-on for a Caribbean vacation.

And finally: the sculptural shape here is just aces.

Yup, that Chloe bag is bonkers expensive, but so spot on style wise. My non-negotiable is a tote must have a zippered pocket. Thank goodness that the Chloe one doesn’t or my wallet would be crying.

A lovely straw bag once shredded the side of a cashmere sweater I wore one cool summer night, and no sweater de-piller could fix the damage. Never again!

I’ve been obsessing over the Mark & Graham raffia elisabetta bag with bamboo handles for weeks. They have several straw bags that I like, actually, but the elisabetta is the one I want. It seems expensive for raffia, which is the only thing that has stopped me from buying it.

      J. McLaughlin’s Robyn wicker box bag is much smaller than the Elisabetta, and it’s made of wicker, but it has a bamboo handle and it’s half the price of the Elisabetta.

I have that Clare V Pot de Miel bag and I just love it so much. Clare V makes cute detachable straps, but Madewell’s are just a sharp and much cheaper https://www.madewell.com/womens/bags/bag-straps

I am having powerful nostalgia for the 80s, living downtown, and searching the Soho street vendors’ wares every summer to find the PERFECT straw bag!

I’m all over the classic French market bags. Found mine on Etsy.

I wear a beach bag with bright pom poms every summer. It is a half moon crescent shape. Tons of compliments!

I collected and used Miami – style embellished straw bags through the early 00s. So cute, so very impractical because they didn’t bend or flex, at all, and they were mostly hand-carry. Still kind of sorry I sold them.
