I started noticing these popping up around a year ago, and it’s a trend I can really get behind, because even though it is indeed a trend, it’s also quite a classic look. I haven’t pulled the trigger on one yet, and I think it’s probably only a matter of time till that happens. But which one to go for? Perhaps this charcoal-hued, ribbed number? It also comes in several other good colors.
The spread collar is a cool touch here, as is the slightly heavier weight, and of course the mustard yellow.
A sweet and bright option that really pops.
This chunky, ribbed specimen is so elegant in that oatmeal-ish hue.
First of all, the orange here is just outstanding, and I like that it’s Merino wool—which is so nicely un-itchy.
This one from Vince is made from boiled cashmere, which sounds so cozy and luxe. It also comes in black, and I am deeply torn over which I prefer.
Relatedly, this Loft sweater also comes in a black stripes/white background iteration, which seems like it would be ideal for spring and summer. Also, it sells for just a hair above $75, which isn’t at all bad.
Just a nicely slouchy option from Madewell, in a deeply neutral hue.
This cashmere V-neck is marked down, and has a nicely deep neckline.
I really dig the front pockets on this navy cardigan, as well as the slightly cropped silhouette.
And finally, a short-sleeved version from Kule that you could have all sorts of fun layering.
[Makes Marge Simpson noise … ]
HA! I hear this noise in my head quite a bit 😉
Jumped on the madewell -also on sale!
Being the fashion trendsetter that I am (don’t laugh too loudly! 😉 ), I bought a couple of these polo-collared sweaters last Fall. I have a red cashmere from Everlane and I returned the other one from Richer/Poorer because…eh. Now, the sweater is too big for me and doesn’t look right. But I’m not sure I’ll jump back on the trend, although the Everlane button-front is calling my name powerfully.
I bought the Everlane in gray and it has thin white vertical stripes along the side seams (under the arms). I actually contacted customer service to make sure it wasn’t a defect, but it’s the design. It kind of looks like hem tape. The stripes don’t show in the photos. I’m not crazy about the stripes but the sweater is otherwise very nice, soft, and comfortable.
Unpopular opinion: I am never getting rid of any clothing, ever again. JK, but not really! I had a few really nice wool and cashmere polo neck sweaters ages ago and really wish I still did. The orange Madewell is exactly like a black one I had. Le sigh.
(Merino itches me, too. All wool does.)
Two years ago I performed The Great Closet Purge. Sometimes, I regret it…..
I don’t love how polo collars look on me, esp. sweaters, but that Madewell collab is enticing — both in the orange and the lilac.
I had a vintage wool one in exactly that orange! No idea what happened to it. Thinking about it more, it might have been my dad’s!
I’ve been obsessed with these types of sweaters recently. Which is annoying, since I live in a tropical country. That didn’t stop me from buying two from & Other Stories, with the Breton top type stripes. I got it white with navy stripes and the inverse of that.
Debating the cardigan – which I (sort of) need and the Kule shirt, which I decidedly don’t.
Talked myself out of the Kule shirt and the cardigan is sold out in my size but I’ve a feeling I may still be thinking about it it/when the “back in stock” email arrives….
Yes–now you can buy both colorways!
Oops–this was meant to refer to the LOFT sweater being 50% off with code FESTIVE
Cute Loft sweater — and it’s on sale for 50% off with code FESTIVE. Would love that Vince one in black, but for that lofty $395 price.
Love that Everlane alpaca! I may need two… And I love the Madewell even though I can’t wear orange and merino wool itches me!! I’m having a hard time with the whole spread collar thing––the little old lady in me says if it’s cold enough to wear a sweater then it’s too cold to expose my neck. Just put me out to pasture….
