There are a couple of straightforward shirtdresses here, but mostly I’ve chosen ones that have a little something interesting going on, like the off-center buttons and ruching on this Veronica Beard option.
And here’s another number with ruching, which is so magically flattering when well-deployed.
So easy and summery.
Just a simple, well-priced choice from J. Crew.
Such a pretty, feminine skirt on this one.
I like how this one from Vince nips in at the waist.
A sleeveless option, for those who dare.
The asymmetrical hem here is right up my alley.
This has a very flowy, forgiving shape.
The corset-like structuring here is rather stealthily sexy.
Curve-hugging and also quite sexy.
Faded-out chambray looks so easy here—a great choice for weekends.
The A-line skirt on this one is good for those of us hippy enough to steer clear of more traditional shirtdress shapes.
I like the stripes on stripes on stripes here.
This silk dress from Theory looks like it would hang really nicely.
Blue and black vertical stripes = perfection.
A very nearly maxi length for those who like their dresses on the longer side.
The print here is retroish and a little wackadoo, in the best possible way.
This watercolor-ish print is not my type of thing usually, but I think this is so pretty.
A black and white floral is graphic and appealing.
And here is the most throw-it-on-and-go of the bunch.
Ah, if only I liked dresses, the black silk by Theory would be my dress…
I love a shirtdress: they are a lifesaver in the summer for work dressing. Wish that the gorgeous Victoria Beard ones were a bit less spendy, as I am now coveting them!
I have to admit, I’m not much of a shirtdress person, but these are SO good! (Alas, the J.crew is backordered till August)
thank you for all the cotton options! it’s SO hot in DC that I can’t wear silk in the summertime (June – Sept…)! I’m going to try both the Chelsea28 and the Veronica Beard just to compare them — and see if the extra $ for VB is worth it.
I love a good shirtdress, as long as the waist has the option of being tied lower because I’m so long-waisted. But the flowy black one is perfect!
I have the Veronica Beard one (thanks to their sample sale last year) and I love it so much – one of the most flattering dresses I own. But I do struggle with what jacket or blazer to pair with it that won’t make the off-center buttons look crazy. They get sort of wonky and less intentional looking when a jacket infringes on their space, but I wear jackets all the time.
