Nordstrom is now offering 25% off sitewide

A friend and I were just discussing the fact that there are about to be a lot of really good sales, and here’s the first one. There are a LOT of exclusions—most of the fancier brands, for instance—but there is still plenty to get excited over, including this pretty classic denim jacket from Madewell.

And the Dyson Supersonic blow dryer—which I can tell you first-hand lives up to the hype, and which never goes on sale—is marked down, as is the  Dyson Airwrap, which is supposedly even better than the Supersonic.

These Birkenstocks are made of a synthetic called EVA that feels like rubber, and they come in some cool bright colors (and black) too. The leather version is also on sale.

Madewell’s Whisper Cotton V-neck tee always gets cited as one of the best white tees in roundups, and this is a good time to stock up.

I’ve been wanting a pair of Nike Air Force 1s for a while, and now might be the time to pull the trigger.  Vans slip ons are on sale too, and equally tempting.

The Fjallraven Kanken backpack is available in a multitude of colors, but I like this gray one.

Is now the time to give in to my desire for a Longchamp tote? Might be.

I adore the PLAY Comme des Garcons heart logo (it’s just about the only designer logo I do like) and it looks so cute on these Chuck Taylors.

I know a ton of you swear by the fit of the Levi’s wedgie jean, so have at it.

Thanks for highlights! My daughter has been waiting to replace her navy Longchamps bag. She ordered right away to snag one before they sell out. I am asking her to keep the old one for me to use! 🙂 I think I would like it, but am not sure.

So … maybe I should let this go, but, just wondering, is that state-made hand sanitizer actually manifesting in people’s lives, out there in NY? I am having *governor envy* (for the first time… before, I thought he seemed a bit quarrelsome). What are we here, chopped liver??? … ps I put this on the other page too, but, if anyone is looking for a great all classical, no commercial radio station that streams, with soothing djs, I am proud to recommend our very own kusc.org It’s bleeping awesome. Now to go finish cleaning the bathroom! I count it as exercise!

During this pandemic, I’ve found myself missing my mother even more than usual (she passed away in 2017). How I would love to call her and get her wisdom, because anyone who’s lived to be 90+ has seen it all. Thinking about her has reminded me that this is the time of year she’d ask me whether I’d gotten my tax stuff together yet. So, I got off my butt and did that today. Then I rewarded myself just now by ordering the denim jacket from Nordstrom. Mom would have loved to hear that.

Just stocked up on my favorite sneakers, Hoke One One Bondi 6. They are lifesavers for my plantar fasciitis (total game changers) and never go on sale at the Hoka One One website. My husband is a convert too for his plantar fasciitis (unfortunately Nordstrom does not carry men’s). The 25% off was substantial!

I hear you on the PF. I have found that the EVA Birks have been extremely helpful for when I shower. (My PF is gone now but I still wear them in the shower for other foot issues.)

See below though – some folks have had issues with the EVA fit.

Come to think of it I am in the opposite position … I’ve never had normal Birks. I have been trying to get some but they sold out of the ones I wanted. Harrumph.

Also btw … the Nordy ones say “medium” width … but isn’t that considered “wide” in Birkyland? Or did they change it to US medium?

Yeah “medium” is Birk wide, and “narrow” is narrow. I will say, I have narrow feet and surprisingly a size down in the EVAs in wide fit, and are literally the most comfortable shoes I own. The OG leather ones were rock hard and I actually much prefer the EVA ones. I prefer Gizeh to Arizona’s personally.

Hi Viajera, sorry about the typo in my post, the company is Hoka One One and it’s their Bondi 6 sneaker that helps with PF. They run true to your sneaker size. Until I visited a running store, I never realized my sneaker size (8.5, narrow width) was a half size larger than my normal shoe size (8, medium width). This explains why I lost a few toenails and had many blisters with my old size 8 sneakers. My Hoka Bondi 6 sneakers are size 8.5, medium width, and they fit great. They are a little on the wide side for me, but I’m normally a narrow width for my sneakers. It’s fine, though (no blisters, no dead toenails, just lots of cushioned comfort for days).

I’d highly recommend the Hoka One One recovery slides for your showers. They also come in a flip flop style but I don’t have those. My husband and I have the recovery slides for our house slippers. He loves them so much and this is a man who never donned slippers in his life. The fit is true to your normal shoe size.

I never owned a pair of Birkenstock’s, so I can’t speak on the fit. The footbed was not comfortable for my feet at all.

Well, thank you for the rec bc they sound just lovely!!! I used to wear Saucony’s, which I loved … though, I did not *run* in them much, I just enjoyed them. Since the PF I haven’t worn sneakers bc they are too soft on the bottom for me and my foot rolls. But, these I will go and try on, since you like them so much. Plus they are cute!!! I love platforms…

You’re welcome, anytime! If you find the soles soft on the Hokas, you may want to use support insoles in your sneakers/shoes. My sister-in-law is the person who recommended the Hoka Bondi 6 sneakers to me and she’s a teacher that had foot surgery. She finds switching out the insoles of her Hokas on an as needed basis, depending on how her feet/ankles/knees feel, with these insoles really does the trick for her. My husband and I have not tried the insoles because just wearing the Bondi 6 sneakers outside and the Recovery slides inside were sufficient to stop our PF. These were her support insole rec: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003IXF6BY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_c_api_i_G.0vDbRK7WXMW?th=1&psc=1

Oooh, those look good! I use these fellers:

              https://www.superfeet.com/en-gb/insoles-and-sandals/green

… But I am open to new ones too bc the green Superfeet don’t fit in everything. Meanwhile, my favorite shoe lady at the Arcadia REI mentioned that she wears those Vibram toe-sock-shoe-thingies at home to strengthen her feet. And sometimes Birks. Ymmv of course. I am glad your feet are better! It makes such a difference. (Now I am having back issues … boooo!)

Many local stores close to me have been opening up web shops so that people can support them. Keeping your money within your community will allow small businesses to keep going. Nordstrom isn’t going to fall during this time – other businesses will. And isn’t taking advantage of big sales like this creating an overload of work for delivery people? How do they stay safe? I’m a big fan of your blog (have been since the beginning), and perhaps I’ve missed a conversation around this in the comments/podcast, but I’d rather see you do posts that don’t only focus on one large store right now. Just my two cents. 🙂 Thanks for the posts – I’m enjoying the distraction.

Something to note about those EVA Birkenstocks. I tried on a pair at my local Nordstrom a couple of weeks ago and found they fit my foot in an uncomfortable way (I should “confess” that I own three pair of Birks––one with patent leather straps, the ones with the fuzzy stuff and my newest are just the regular Arizona suede with white soles in blue. I really, really wanted those EVA ones, but they simply didn’t fit my foot. (sigh) Also, I was given the hint that the Levi wedgies fit better if you size up––true?

Different folks, different feet: I love my EVA Birkenstocks. I have two pair, one for out of the house, and one for wearing at home. They accommodate (more or less) the heel lift that I need, so I love them.

I’m so jealous! (and yes, exactly, different feet, different fit) I do the same thing. One pair of Birks for out of the house, one pair for indoors. (and the third pair, the new pair, are indoor for now, but will go outdoors this summer!)
