I fell off the yoga wagon a while back, and am currently trying very hard to get back into the habit in a serious way, and so of course I’m checking out new stuff to wear to class. Most of it skews rather bold, and I’m not quite certain why that is, but I do know that I might need to own this camo tank from one of my favorite purveyors of workout clothes, The Upside (here are the matching leggings if you’re interested).
These cheetah print leggings flirt with being too much, but the color palette keeps them wearable.
I’m a sucker for a top with stars on it.
The starburst dots on this bra are so damn cheery.
I like the Missoni-esque spacedye effect on these leggings.
I’m not nuts for the branding here, but the leopard print contrasts in such a cool way with that slash of salmon pink.
I’m not certain these star leggings could be a whole lot cuter.
When butt coverage is essential, this legging/shorts hybrid will come in handy.
Just the cutest, happiest print on this bra.
And finally: some floral leggings that remind me of an Indian rug.
I have been going to yoga classes for years at a studio 1/2 mile from house, which abruptly closed in October. I tried another nearby studio, but the schedule/ classes/ instructors weren’t as good. My only other studio options are (1) super hot temps and (2) pricier. So I have been doing yoga at home through streamed classes at yogaglo.com. It’s $18/month and they have TONS of classes. It has completely changed my relationship with yoga. (And I am not affiliated with the company in any way, shape, or form.)
I love the star leggings and bra! But for some reason, I have a hard time spending much money on work-out gear… so the Gap has been my mainstay for pilates wear for years.
I agree Rebecca. Old Navy leggings in tall are a mainstay for me along with Baleaf at baleaf.com — great quality, loads of choices. I will occasionally splurge at Athleta, but $80-100 leggings that are no different except for a designer label is hard to swallow.
Yep, when I am in the States, I always hit Athleta… and go right to the sale rack!
I love the Gap for pilates/yoga and even running gear. My favorite star print workout leggings are Gap.
I love the tanks, but I’m going to spend the money on the shorts leggings combo.
Can’t pass it up since that’s the only way I’ll ever be able to wear shorts that short again!
Kim, I love you so much. Have been a fangirl since the Sassy days. But, pardon my premenopausal rage, I can’t even fathom spending 100 bucks on some leggings that I know I’m going to sweat through just putting them on my body, let alone when I get to the gym. Speaking of, would love to see a post about “praise Jesus, these items actually work to alleviate menopausal symptoms.” Thanks!
Julie, I totally hear you on this. See my posting below. Outdoor Voices make the only tights that don’t make me sweat (although I have also found some Lululemon ones that are ok sweat wise).
There are nutritional choices that might help…if you drink alcohol switch out your wine. (Vodka, tequila are better. With no sugary mixers) Avoid soy. Really really avoid soy. Avoid added sugar but don’t deny yourself quality dessert. Eat more greens. Sweat more (as in, exercise is your friend). Avoid artificial sweeteners. Those are real triggers. Sorry if that takes away your Fresca or Diet Coke but I promise you will be a fast believer! Laugh at it because it’s perfectly ridiculous but laughing helps.
I think you might be on the wrong blog if you’re looking for menopausal medical advice. But a friend who’s an breast cancer oncologist (so she treats many women who are in premature menopause) recommends black cohosh (for less than 6 months), evening primrose tea, Vit E 800-1200 and says all work 10-15% of the time.
Also, Effexor works 60-75% of the time and Clonidine works 75-80% of the time. I copied this directly from her email.
Julie—the only thing that helped cut my nighttime sweats by 50% was acupuncture.
I’m a HUGE fan of Outdoor Voices for several reasons––they don’t make you sweat, woman owned company and once you find your size that will be your size in EVERYTHING which is a gigantic plus for me. My only complaint about Outdoor Voices is they don’t make a shelf-bra spaghetti strap workout top which is what I prefer.
We moved to Vienna in June and every time I wear my beloved Nike Palm Epic Lux leggings, people look at me like I’m CRAZY. Some cultures haven’t embraced patterned workout gear apparently.
I don’t hate these.
Also Kim…since you have sent me down more than my share of retail rabbit holes…I’m going to send you to the Frank and Eileen site in which they are featuring an oversized white flannel button down with navy blue stars…I don’t have the link but I have no doubt you will find it easily xox
I have seen it and love it!
Yeah…I caved. It’s on its way. The black denim shirts are also a problem….
The star-print leggings are ace, but those leopard-sole sneaks? . Whose are they?
I like loud-ish workout clothes, probably because my normal clothes are mostly quiet-ish. Many of these are very good.
I just ordered some stuff from Oiselle which is a running company (women-owned) and while not explicitly for yoga or pilates, I am *obsessed* with everything I’ve ordered. My favorite thing though is that they make running/workout shorts with inseams of 5″ and 7″ and they are stretchy and wicking that I’ve worn them to hot yoga no problem. (They also show models in various sizes and many of them are their employees, so points for not feeding the implausible body goals machine.)
I love Oiselle! I am a runner but they are the only company whose shorts fit my giant soccer player thighs. I was a big fan of the longer length roga shorts but this summer’s release of the flyout shorts in the longer length are amazing.
I have those Outdoor Voices leggings in a very dark gray and they are great. They are so comfortable and stretchy and perfect for Pilates. I also love the look of their color-blocked two tone and three tone leggings, which is as loud I will probably go with my workout wear. They did recently come out with polka dotted items that look absolutely cute. I also like that the brand features plus size models and don’t blur out stretchmarks or cellulite on their photos.
