I don’t wear skirts, BUT I do think these are all very wearable, chic and worthy. The Vince one was my favorite and think your suggestion of wearing it with a white-t would be perfect for summer. Easy casual comfortable date look, yes?

I have a closetful…but I’ll admit that mine are all either now-vintage pieces I purchased a life-time ago or eBay gems. A skirt is something for which I wouldn’t pay full price.

I wear skirts frequently as it’s difficult for me to find dress pants that fit, and in the summer I find them cooler. These are all lovely — I especially love the Tibi one! Totally agree with Kim…. they’re all either so short they barely cover my bits, or have weird ruffles, or are sister-wife length.

I hardly ever wear pants, except jeans. Even in the winter, I am usually in skirts and dresses with tights. I find it so difficult to find pants that fit me the way I want. I have a lot of well fitting skirts from Boden that I have collected over the years.

Contrarian here. Nothing I like more than a batsh*t skirt and a simple top.

Man, I hate skirts. They don’t work for me at all. First, they have to be hemmable (or just shorter to begin with), which is a pretty tall order. Second, they have to not make me look frumpy, which is an even taller order these days – the full skirt trend is seriously terrible for me. If I had to pick one item of clothing that instantly lowered my self-esteem by 100 or more points just looking at it, it would be a full, gathered-at-the-waist skirt. That said, I do like looking at them and this is a very pleasing selection! (Also, Oak offers plus sizes?! That’s surprising to me, and completely, totally awesome.)

I’m with Kim. Asymmetric hems, handkerchief hems, any kind of weird hems send me running for the exit. But the green skirt is so gorgeous I might forgive it’s longer in back hem. Or I’d have it altered to be even all around, if possible. Here’s a good thing about skirts: if you’re someone who isn’t comfortable baring your upper arms and you sometimes feel that all the pretty dresses are sleeveless, skirts give you the option of choosing your own top, with whatever sleeves are most flattering for you. Brava!

I like maxi skirts in summer, and I have a short skirt I used to wear over leggings going to the gym (on the bus, because I lived in Brooklyn then, and didn’t think a lady should show her butt in public).

I have a few other skirts that I like, and might someday, in theory, wear, but that remains theoretical for now … I guess I’m just not a skirt person any more, to the point where I just won’t buy them. Though I do enjoy looking at them.

Agreed that a classic a-line midlength skirt is perplexingly hard to find! Thanks for sharing the Tibi one.

I love the simple black pull-on skirts…they’re easy, flattering and so simple to wear. But my favorite is the navy “silk” by Vince. I LOVE that skirt!!!

Now, if I can just find a fuller black skirt that doesn’t make me look like “Mama Moose”!!!

I was literally just thinking the exact same thing! Thought I’d like a new skirt, went to every website I could think of and all you get are tiny minis and ruffles. I love a simple A-line, 50s-style skirt in either a bold color or vintage-style print. Boden used to be good for the latter but they have gone way downhill. COS sometimes has nice ones, and even Ann Taylor. But probably the best place to go is YOOX– proof that, once again, in our crazy age the Europeans continue to maintain an oasis of sanity.

Recently bought a navy pleated skirt from Everlane and it is PERFECT. Just the right length, comfortable waistband and really really flattering.

Agree with everyone here, and love these skirt choices! I had pretty much given up on skirt shopping retail – I either wear well preserved skirts that I never got rid of or their friends/same era vintage off ebay. There are no normal skirts in stores – it’s as if there was a good skirts rapture, and we are stuck with the bad leftovers….

I don’t get the lack of choice for skirts – when I was younger I wore all skirt lengths, not just mini or maxi. I mean that is how I got my vintage skirts of decent wearable length after all.

Who is designing womens wear these days? And for who.

This is a fall thing, not summer, but… Back when I was a tween — circa 1980 — my friend’s older sister and her friends, all to me so beautiful and so cool, used to wear these plaid wool A-line knee-length skirts that just seemed so spot-on. I still long for one. (And a pink satin jacket, but that’s another story.) Where did these skirts all go?

I’ve always been a bit of a minimalist in terms of skirts. Too many ruffles and ruches around my backside make me feel like a big toddler..
I adored my skirts in the nineties..
I’d wear them still, but I need a slightly bigger size these days😂

I have gone so far as to sew my own skirts to get that perfect midi-a-line like the first one, but it’s even hard to find decent fabric these days. I miss my 90s skirts!

For two years now I’ve been looking for a flattering, age-appropriately hemmed, but cool denim skirt. I’m looking for that comfortable skirt I can throw on with tees in the summer, i.e. to replace denim cutoffs. Very hard to find!
