I had so much fun on Monday getting to know loyal commenters (and delightful people) C.W. and Mamavalveeta during a mini-meetup we had out in Amagansett. After a nice long visit, we concluded affairs the way all GOACA meetups should end: with shopping. How cute is my new hat?
Here’s a cheaper-but-similar version.
I surprise myself by liking this peplum blouse. It’s more girly than I usually go, but I’m thinking the tiniest bit of waist definition isn’t the worst thing.
One of my yoga teachers, the peerless Joanna Ross-Tash, forgot her sunglasses on our recent retreat to Italy. So—as I never travel without an extra pair because I’m so paranoid about my light sensitivity—I lent her my spare: a pair of blue ones from Celine that are in extra high rotation. I told her to guard them with her life and give them back once we got home. Alas, she lost them and felt terrible and sent me this link to the very pair, and cheaper than I paid for them. I told her not to worry about the glasses—because Lord knows I have plenty—and we agreed to call it even in exchange for dinner and a private, so really I’m thinking I come out ahead on account of the fact that Joanna is great. But I’m so pleased to have discovered Smart Buy Glasses, the resource she linked me to, because it’s a fantastic resource for cheaper (as in: still not cheap) out-of-season fancy sunglasses.
I think Smartbuyglasses is actually a scam…. do some googling before ordering.
Self-correction: I was thinking of this guy – sorry for any confusion:

i remember reading that. awful.
You travel with an extra pair of sunglasses? That is amazing.
Seeing the photo of you in your sunnies reminds me of another request I’d like to make. You seem to have a quite narrow face–so do I–and I’d love to know what glasses, both sunnies and prescription, work for you. I have a terrible time finding glasses to fit–in addition to having a long narrow face, I’m pretty small, so sometimes I even look at kids’ glasses.
Thanks!
Love your hat!
c.w. and I insisted that Kim buy it!
i hope she was sending the link to confirm they were the ones she was going to replace.
Of course.
I have that same hat in navy blue from Talbots. Love your daily posts.
So much fun meeting you and mamavalveeta! And I do appreciate you not mentioning, Kim, that I sat on a mushroom causing a big nasty brown stain on the rear end of my cream colored jeans resulting in a stain that looked…well…yes, exactly like what you are imagining which also necessitated in my immediate purchase of a new pair of black camo jeans that I wore out of the store. Oy and Egad. (by the way I got the stain out with much persistence, rubbing alcohol and an oxy stain removal product)
And an aside…regarding the friendship posting from yesterday…last night someone I thought of as a dear friend announced their engagement on FaceBook. I didn’t even know this person was dating much less in love so I guess we weren’t as “dear friends” as I thought. Their reality, my reality––totally not the same. Weird.
But you were with the best possible people for that situation, though! GOACA powers, ACTIVATE!
You’re funny, DeDe.
I have acquired 3 hats this year. say “acquired” because one was a freebie baseball cap from my college reunion. Of course that’s the one I wear most often!
I have one like the one you just got (amazing adorbs cute pic btw!) and I just never wear it it. Of course it would be perfect if I still lived in Brooklyn!
Oh, also wanted to add, I have a peplum top and I have to force myself to wear it because I think it will me like an umbrella around my waist and then I put it on and realize it’s fine, I look great. But I don’t reach for it instinctively. Maybe sometime you could write about thing phenomenon (though I’m not sure what to call it lol).
I think it is wonderful that you create friendship connections as a result of this space.
I’d love to meet up with GOACA readers out here in California…politics, books, art, yoga, relationships, travel, and…FASHION!
What more is there?
Dana D….where are you in CA?? I’m in south OC!
Hi Francine!
Alas, I am in Sacramento. Grew up in OC!!! For now, I’ll remember you when you post here and we’ll see if we have any other California friends…or let me know if you come north!!!
Thank you for reaching out!
Shout out from Coastal OC!!!
Shout out from Coastal OC!! 😀
West Los Angeles here!
If you guys planned a meetup in LA, I might come out for it.
Wow. I’m not a good organizer but I would definitely go.
re:sunglasses — I like Ottica net…just got a pair of celine’s they sent from Italy in 2 days
I love this post. Love that you let someone borrow your expensive sunnies and didn’t melt down when she misplaced them. Love that you met up with some GOACAs. Love that one of those GOACAs told us about her mushroom sitting mishap! Love to learn about the online sunnies store. Just fantastic all around!
Cosigning all of this!
We should do regional GOACA meet ups. Maybe have Kim Skype in? Ok, kidding about that last part, but serious about regional meet ups!
Kim, are you taking requests? I would give my right arm (I’m a lefty) for your counsel on shoes that are comfortable, super cute (of course), under $200. And versatile enough to rock the 9-7 circuit of dog walking, coffee date, kid duty, casual dinner out…and logging my 10000 steps. My Stan Smiths/Danskos/Birkenstocks rotation is feeling tired. Please help a hopeful soul (sole).
If only that Black Crane dress had come in a different color, all 3 of us would’ve walked away from our meetup/shopping trip with a purchase! But at least I soaked up some of Kim’s shopping expertise. 🙂
It was so much fun meeting with women that I felt instantly comfortable with…there’s no pretense with Kim…she’s down-to-earth. And c.w. is great (mushroom butt and all!). Thanks for what you’ve built here, Kim…a damned fine community.
Thanks, Val. You are as lovely and big-hearted in person as you are here. xx
