It will be blazer season before we know it

lotan blazer

Daylight savings time began this weekend, and I feel like my life has started anew. Sure, the weather here is still crap, but once the days start getting longer, it’s only a matter of time before warm weather follows. Which has put me in mind of spring jackets, and especially blazers. I’m looking for versions that aren’t just the same old navy and black, or that—if they are those colors—have a little something interesting going on. I still really want a velvet blazer, and this one from Nili Lotan is very nearly perfect.

topshop blazer

I like the pop of orange here.

cinq blazer

I can’t quite describe what’s going on with this ladylike blazer, but I’m a fan.

universal standard blazer

From Universal Standard’s capsule line of work-wear: A nice classic burgundy number, with smart three-quarter sleeves.

shah blazer

This looks like a Saint Laurent Le Smoking jacket.

miller dickey jacket

I like the cutaway silhouette on this Veronica Beard option.

slade jacket

I am crazy for this Rag & Bone jacket: I feel like you’d always look put-together if you were wearing it. I like it in the navy too.

eloquii blazer

I might switch out the buttons on this tweed number, but otherwise it’s crazy cute.

Another velvet jacket, this one with slick satin lapels.

theory blazer

I spilled coffee on my only white blazer, and am considering this one from Theory as a replacement.

frame blazer

Why not a leopard print blazer, I ask you?

lotan blazer1

This is such a good avocado green, and I like the shrunken proportions.

I love the burgundy from Universal Standard.

Kim, you must not be a native of the Northeast — this winter’s been fairly mild and pretty uneventful!

True, I grew up in a warm climate, but I have been living east coast winters since I went away to boarding school in 1981, and I’d be hard-pressed to name many winters in all of those years that have been as relentlessly grey as this one.

Grey, and cold – not as much snow, but we’ve had more days with highs only in the 20s than I ever remember. I’m also ready for Spring!

Then it’s probably good that you’re getting just 2-4″ of snow tomorrow, while in southern New England we’re getting a blizzard with 10-15″. I looooove it!

Grey is the operative word. And 4-12 inches of snow is the outlook for tomorrow.

The shrunken avocado is calling to me (only in bone), but $650….the only time I’ve tried on a Nili Lotan jacket––her leather fringed jacket––the proportions were so off kilter on my body I couldn’t even get my arms through the sleeves. Also love the black velvet with the satin lapels! And, weirdly, I have a blazer (and pants to match) by Vivienne Westwood that is very similar to the Veronica Beard––I’ve owned the outfit for seven years and never worn it! Obviously, I need a clothing/fashion encourager.

It was sunny and in the eighties here on Saturday so we’re almost past the jacket/blazer option (that lasted about two days) and on to the tee-shirt/thin delicate peasant blouse pop-over option. Oy and Egad.

Curious about velvet in the spring, as it always seemed like a winter-only option. Or am I applying one of those outdated rules like no white after Labor Day?

I’ve got a pinkish velvet blazer I wear in the spring all of the time!

My uniform is jeans + T shirt + blazer. Love the leopard, hate the shrunken. (personal prejudice; something about shrunken proportions just makes me itch).

I feel too restricted in blazers these days. I have succumbed to the glories of Lycra, and expect some give in everything I wear. I have passed over to the “certain age”, rather than “girl”. (But I still love my clogs.)

I like the one from Eloquii, would also switch out the buttons. Kim, did you know Mango has a plus line? It is called Violeta and I was looking at the Blazers yesterday and saw an adorable red tweed. I would add the link…. But, alas, I am unschooled in that area.

Hi Kim, I have been a long time reader and notice you’ve stopped your Monday and Thursday links altogether. While I like the fashion posts, I particularly liked your perspective on other cultural phenomena and miss your pointing me in the direction of many cool things. Did I miss some announcement about this change? I hate to sound cranky, but I feel the site is much less multi-dimensional than it used to be. I miss your willingness to curate culture for us. Thanks!

I love the idea of blazers but have never loved the actual item.

I feel restricted. Don’t know why. I love cardigans for work, all kinds of em.

I really only see blazers in Northern CA on women working in a business/government setting.

Am I not seeing them on other women because I am not looking?

I feel the same way, Dana. Too constricting, even tho they’re supposed to be my fashion friend (I need “structure,” apparently.)

My my my! The cut of Veronica Beard’s clothing is just about perfect. I have to admit, tho, I associate the velvet jackets with deep winter.

And I’m finding it not so fun to try on clothes right now when a pair of pants groans as I attempt to zip them and they say, “What the hell do you think you’re trying to do here?”
It’s much easier to buy lots of lipsticks….they always greet me with,”Well HELLO, gorgeous!” 😳😉

I’m doing the same! Lipstick to the rescue when the stomach is being stubborn!

      I’m trying REDS! egads…!

I have depended on blazers since the 80s – oversized long magenta blazer with black lace leggings and 3 inch heels – lace gloves too. Now it’s black or navy with jeans or a trouser but always feel put together for dinner or drinks if I have a blazer on. Will always have blazers as closet staple.

I love all of these. Especially the velvet and the tuxedo jacket.
