You can’t beat shirtdresses for ease of wear in the summer, and I like how crisp and put-together they manage to look, especially when I’m feeling anything but. Here is a pretty classic casual take, from preppy-chic brand Alex Mill.
A pretty—and kind of sexy—floral from Yumi Kim.
I like the A-line shape here, and the sleeves look flattering.
The floral/leopard print mashup here is rather crazy, but I kind of love it.
A breezy, slouchy option that’s part of the really good sale going on right now at Vince.
This denim number is sold out in some sizes, and I understand why: it looks like the easiest thing in the world to throw on and forget about.
A slinky-but-somehow-also-sweet floral in an appealing green.
I like the band collar on this striped option.
This cute cotton popover dress hits just above the knee, which I know is a no-go for some of you, but it’d also be pretty perfect as a beach cover-up.
And so would this gauzy, longer dress.
I think the variegated stripes in this Theory dress are a cool, graphic touch. I’m not crazy about the belt, but it’s easy enough to sub out one of your own.
A perfect option for wearing while you’re lounging about.
This Uniqlo dress is very well-priced, and I like the full-skirtedness of it.
The jungle print here appeals.
This striped linen dress is by a newish brand I really like called Ayr that makes cool, classic pieces (and pretty great denim) in a wide variety of sizes.
This lace dress has a kind of antique-y feel, and is so excellently summery.
And finally: the military touches on this Topshop dress are quite winning.
Love the R13 mashup, the Theory stripe & the Anthropologie jungle print – which I would wear on repeat.
Yes! And it drapes in a flattering way. It’s not my usual colour way but I couldn’t resist.
I just got the Entireworld sundress and love it as well–a little narrower through the hips than many, but with nice side slits to make up for that. https://theentireworld.com/collections/women/products/dress-womens-type-a-version-2-khaki-white
EEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! So many great shirt dresses! Thank you, Kim. 😘 I’m loving the whole esthetic of Alex Mill – does anyone know how their fit runs? And Vince always has me in the palm of their chic, modern hand. But the one that reads perfect on all fronts is the Other Stories. (Even price!)
Massimo Dutti has a great selection of classic sundresses in a variety of styles in a nice price range.
I have the duplicate of the Alex Mill striped number, but from Joe Fresh. Now I think it looks better without the belt.
I also have the jungle print dress from Anthropologie and love it! The pockets help…
Me too – I got a lot of compliments, too.
Shirt dresses are absolutely my summer work uniform: my only gripe with them is that mine are all cotton, and need to be ironed. But that TopShop one…
I love shirt dresses! Thanks for this post and also for validating my purchase of the green jungle print one you show here. I love it!
I was wondering if anyone has bought anything from Alex Mill and how the quality and fit were.
I was wondering the same thing about Alex Mill. Meanwhile, I was admiring that green jungle print.
I’m a big fan of Alex Mill. I’ve bought shirts and a sweater, the quality is great.
Just got this and it’s gorgeous too. Much nicer fabric than the price suggests! https://www.uniqlo.com/us/en/women-printed-long-sleeve-shirt-dress-418617.html?dwvar_418617_color=COL32&cgid=women-dresses-and-jumpsuits#start=24&cgid=women-dresses-and-jumpsuits
The Ayr link doesn’t work which is a bummer, because CUTE!
Go to ayr.com and it’s the Sunset dress.
THANK YOU!!!
I have an Everlane shirtdress that looks almost exactly like that first one. Everlane shirtdresses are pretty great, I have three. The fabric, even the white, is substantial enough to not be see through in bright sunlight.
I have that same Everlane shirtdress and love it, Katrina.
