GOACA classics: the boyfriend jean

20

These are the only jeans I feel like wearing at the moment: as a rule, they’re nice and slouchy, deeply comfortable, and decidedly casual, which suits our times, don’t you think? They’re also one of the only cuts you can find with both high and low rises, and it’s increasingly tough to find any jeans with lower rises these days, as we have discussed in the past. Like this pair from AG, which I also like because it’s got a relatively clean wash.

The fit on these reminds me of the Levi’s 501s we all wore in our youth.

These have a nicely faded-out wash, which is how I prefer my black jeans.

I’m intrigued by this drawstring pair—the green denim is unexpected, and the fit is nicely relaxed.

By now, regular readers know that one of my only fashion don’ts is tight white jeans—I just think they look cheap. I much prefer something along these lines. Also, here’s a pair from Madewell that’s also good and cheaper.

I know not all of you like them, but I dig the raw hem here.

A pitch black pair is kind of 80s—in a good way.

These have a nice amount of stretch, which is always good in my book.

I’m kinda thrilled fashion is moving back towards looser, high-mid rise jeans. Maybe not as sexy but they’re just more comfortable in my opinion.

Oh the boyfriend jean…of all my jeans these are the only ones that i am reaching for these days! I am looking for a nice white pair, while i like the AG pair you linked to, I’m looking for the highly elusive 28 inch or longer inseam…readers any leads? Basically what I want to the rag and bone pair, but in white

Boyfriend jeans are my ride or die. If anyone has leads on a solid maternity pair (not too much $$$, as this is my LAST TIME ON THIS TRAIN), I would be so grateful.

There’s no link for the first pair.

Citizens has the Elsa and Skyla, which are mid rise, not exactly boyfriend jeans, but have a nice, slim straight leg.

The link for the first pair is working for me. Anyone else having issues?

I really love the slightly wider waistband on the 7’s. I haven’t worn that brand in ages, but the look is really good. Any fit advice, denim pros?

I haven’t tried on the Josefina in a while but if memory serves, they run large!

      Super soft and comfortable.

Yup, my josefinas are a size smaller than my other sevens and are still more comfortable. They’re a few years old and more distressed than these, but that’s my experience.

Have been loving Old Navy’s boyfriend cut lately! The price is right for laid-off me; I was even able to get a couple of different colors. They have a good mid-rise and are comfortable enough to job-hunt in all day.

I’m loving the Old Navy mid-rise boyfriend straight jeans that are 20% off $32 now. I ordered a size bigger than my normal size for extra slouch. I’d long been lusting after the Nili Lotan Archer jean but was afraid to buy them on sale when they couldn’t be returned. The Old Navy jeans, in a very cool dark blue, satisfied that itch and they are thankfully not cropped.

I will be forever sad that my boyfriend gained a little bit of weight while I simultaneously lost a little bit of weight and now none of his very nice, perfect boyfriend-style jeans don’t fit me anymore. In the end it was a healthy weight change for both of us but I’ve given up on finding the perfect boyfriend jeans, ha!

Sorry, they were on sale yesterday when I put together the post. So annoying when that happens.

Looks like the black jean is full price but the blue (“Mariposa”) is on steep sale. So blue it is – if they are prefect I’ll consider springing for the black.
