Gift guide: stripes!

13

This most versatile of patterns is something I love, on home decor as well as clothing and accessories, and who doesn’t feel the same? I’ve got a bumper crop of good striped items for you today, starting with this thin-striped henley. I really like the poppy red details.

This happy little Marimekko cutting board has a hole, so you can hang it up after using it.

A reusable shopping bag that folds up into nothing, so your giftee can keep it in her purse for impromptu trips to the market.

Just a really chic and graphic Sonia Rykiel bath towel.

This gorgeous Missoni throw is on the spendy side, but surely there’s someone on your list who deserves it.

As stylish a mug as I’ve ever seen—if it was a T-shirt, I’d wear the hell out of it.

Such an elegant leather catchall that unsnaps to be flat, making it handy for travel.

I love striped tees from Kule, and this one is so excellently French-seeming.

Your favorite dog lover will adore this bold striped leash; here is the matching collar.

The pop of pink on these leather coasters is just so cool, and would liven up any coffee table.

A cute turtleneck for when the weather calls for serious layering.

I might have to gift myself this excellent faux fur-lined trapper hat—it’s just too cute, and it looks like it’d be incredibly warm.

A storage basket for all your giftee’s whatnots.

I really dig how vertical this tote is, and that it’s got handy double straps.

These metallic socks are pretty fun, and the color combination is just neutral enough to look good peeking out from under trousers.

I’m also really liking the mix of hues on this generously-proportioned Ganni scarf.

I like how these dinner plates all kind of go together without exactly matching.

This classic Pendelton throw would look great on just about any sofa. I also like this black version.

I own these pajama pants, and they are seriously comfortable, and warm without being stuffy.  Here’s the matching top.

I couldn’t decide which of these stylish little vases I liked best, so I decided to show you both.

An op art box with a very modish feel.

And finally: a quite sportif crossbody bag strap from Clare Vivier.

OK, so two things — 1) After reading your archived pieces for NYMAG, I went looking for other articles by you. I read This Is Not My Beautiful House, and was very moved by it. I thought it was beautifully written. 2) May I asked who designed that home? Was it Jonathan Adler? I ask because I’d love to buy the book and see the pic of the living room. I hope I’m not being too intrusive. I’m really looking forward to your book coming out, and hope that you’ll be giving us news soon.

      1. Thank you very much, Bobby. 2. Yes, it was Jonathan Adler. 3. I am hard at work on the book, which is a bit delayed, but I can, at long last, see the finish line.

Congrats on seeing light at the end of the tunnel — I know what that’s like! And thanks for confirming my hunch that it was Jonathan Adler — I hope you and Simon met and shared your love of Liberty prints!

That Madewell turtleneck arrived on my doorstep yesterday, and it is all kinds of perfect!

I should show my 13 year old daughter this. She teases me about my uniform of striped shirts and I tease her about her uniform of athleisure wear (leggings and tank tops and oversized hoodies oh my!). Stripes win! At least for today. 🙂

Oh. Wait. We’re supposed to get stuff from this list for other people? Oops!

For the second day in a row, I’ve purchased something from the “gift” list with absolutely zero intention of sharing it (butterfly pouches yesterday, striped mug today). Well played, Kim.

An ex-boyfriend had a Pendleton blanket and even though it was a hideous combination of stripes, it was incredibly warm and is, perhaps….no definitely…the only thing I regret losing when we broke up. These are all great gift suggestions, Kim.

Is a Pendleton throw what Americans call an HBC blanket? (I moved from Canada to the U.S. six years ago but …)

Don’t feel bad, I had to google that. That stands for Hudson Bay company.

Yeah, I think that Pendleton sells HBC blankets. I had the same thought (writing from TO). Oh, and I want all of the things in this round-up…
