Why is it so hard to find a good laptop case?

9

dries case

I mean if you want to spend a fortune, like on this Dries van Noten number, then you’re set, but otherwise it can be tough going.

herschel case

This solid navy option from Herschel has a certain quite minimal appeal.

madewell case

And you can monogram this one from Madewell if you so choose.

rains case

The colorblock business here is nice and bold.

marimekko case

And of course I adore this cute Marimekko sleeve.

raw case

So streamlined and professional.

leather case

I like that this looks just like an envelope clutch.

pink case

Here’s a fun pink in a cute print.

cork case

This cork case doesn’t look like much here, but I’ll bet it’s really cool in person.

crochet case

I might just have to order this funky crocheted one.

japanese case

This is made from Japanese fabric, and I think it’s really good looking.

These are all wonderful! Love each one.

I found mine on Etsy…wool felt and leather handmade in Germany.

Etsy has a wonderful selection of such things…

Good idea. The Japanese fabric one, my fave, is from Etsy. So is the cute pink one.

Any ideas for a stylish laptop sleeve with a handle; one that isn’t a messenger bag style? Sometimes I like to travel lite to a meeting with my laptop and leave the backpack behind, but I’m not good with the “clutch” or armpit tuck. Most I’ve seen with handles are very utilitarian looking, and not in a cool girl way 🙂

I’d love some options for a full-on briefcase. I’ve had my current one for close to 20 years and it’s in serious need of an upgrade.

I’ve never really gotten the point of a laptop case, tbh — MacBooks at least seem fairly indestructible, and if your bag can fit a laptop, to me that seems like protection enough en route between work and home… am I missing something?

I was told about a million years ago that a case was more to protect all those little connector parts than to protect the laptop itself. Keeps the dust and, in my case, the Kleenex dust, out of all those ports. Truthfully, I don’t know, but that bit of supposed wisdom has stuck with me so even if I put my laptop in my padded computer bag I put it in some sort of sleeve or case. I’m also overly cautious about anything computer related so you have to take me with a grain of salt.

Huh! Well, that makes sense, I guess.

Though in many years of schlepping my laptop around case-free, that’s not a problem I’ve ever come across… and I’m sure I’ve got the same amount of Miscellaneous Bag Grime as anyone else. 🙂

Love the Marimekko, the cork and the Japanese fabric ones! Such great options!

Hmmm laptop case … when do you use such a thing? I don’t go anywhere with only a laptop. I usually have other junk so I use a tote.
