Checking out the new arrivals at Sézane

This chain is often referred to as the French Madewell, and I can see why: they do a similar mix of classics and trendy pieces, and while some of their stuff is frankly a bit young for me—most dresses hit at mid-thigh—I also always find a lot to like. Additionally, I appreciate that most of what they offer is available in multiple colors or prints, like this glorious floral button-down, which also comes in a polka dot iteration, among others.

This denim jacet also comes in blue, but I really dig this ecru.

This fluid, flowy polo shirt is so far up my alley at the moment.

Such a cute striped sweater—the row of mini-buttons is such a good detail.

I love the size and hue of this bucket bag.

I’ve been living in silky shirts lately, and this would be an excellent one to add to the arsenal.

The square-ish neckline on this floral dress is both sexy and not too revealing.

The texture of this cardigan is sweet and kind of old-school.

A good, classic denim shirt that I feel would go instant, constant rotation in my closet.

I don’t know if I could pull off this adorable lilac jumpsuit, but surely one of you could.

Just a good, tomboyish striped button-down in ecru and blue.

I like the longer length of this chore jacket; I also really, really like it in this leopard print.

And finally: a truly classic striped, long-sleeved tee with buttons at the shoulder, which are a great detail.

I think it’s funny how you say Sezanne skewers a bit young, because all I see is … clothes my always chic and stylish sometime fashionista mother (70) would wear. In fact, I’m sure she has at least one closet filled with something like that (maybe not the jumpsuit, though). Which makes Sezanne for me, very personally, something of a Big No.

I think they have a pretty good mix of stuff that would appeal to both young and old. Some of their tops and dresses are very girly and flirty, with lots of lace, ruffles, low cut sweetheart necklines, spaghetti straps, totally open backs, etc…that seem very young to 47-year-old me. I don’t necessarily think you see a lot of young Americans wearing these styles, but it’s very young French girl. However, they also have a lot of classic pieces that anyone would look good in.

Any idea what the size chart is at Sezane? The button-down sizing stops at 16–is that the equivalent of the XXXL for the sweaters? (I looked for a size chart, but I didn’t find one.) Thanks.

I looked at the size chart too – I agree it is confusing, but no more so than other sellers’ – imo, all of them are bad. At least this one did have some actual measurements, metric though they be. … … … If it were me, I’d just call the New York store and ask them to measure whatever garment I wanted at the relevant place. I don’t know if they’d have time to do it, but it would save hassle. There is too much squish factor in sizing for me to go ordering from brands where I have to mail it back. I am just not going to. Unless I really, really like something … wah wah

The solid blue version of the sweater really appeals to me.

Make that the “sold out solid blue version of the sweater” – oh well. (The striped blue version featured here is still available.)

The many colors of the striped Breton tee are aces, like the camel and olive.

Re this week’s EIF episode, I love you two, even when you’re cranky. And useful information and valuable perspective are still communicated.

I am invited to so many weddings this spring and summer. Any suggestions for wedding guest dresses that are not sleeveless, mini, black or white? Help!

Sezane does chunky, oversized sweaters extremely well. I bought three and they’re the best sweaters I own. I got them all on eBay, since they are a much pricier store than Madewell.

I always find a lot to love at Sezane and even if I don’t make a purchase I am inspired by their styling. It is slightly different than the way I would put together an outfit and so appealing (for example the black and silver “western” belt with the pinstripe button down…)

How much for that cool French apartment with the herringbone wood floors?
