This liner jacket from Anine Bing is mighty cute, but is also priced at $350, which seems excessive.
Instead, I might go for this vintage option on Etsy, which rings in at a much more reasonable $88.

COS has a great one for a lot less. I live in NYC and get lots of compliments when I wear it. This is a jacket that can be found anywhere and at multiple price points. It’s a wonder that brands, like Anine Bing in this case, can get away with selling something so simple for such a lot of money – and a wonder how quickly styles are copied.
From the Etsy sellers description
Vintage black quilted liner jacket. Deadstock lot from 80s/90s. Oversized, boxy fit. Open front. Open underarms.
Fascinating! “Open front” meaning, it doesn’t close??
This Etsy shop also has some really cool (and warm)looking quilted drawstring pants. My father used to wear something similar under his work pants when he went deer hunting. This was, of course, back in the dark ages before there were long underwear options like we have these days. Really temped by the quilted pants…not for wearing out of the house, but what a terrific sweatpants alternative for the dead of winter.
YES! Cheap and Chic! More like this please 🙂 – I like being on trend at times but the wallet does not – also those jeans in the Annie Bing are terrific ! Any more fun silhouettes you can share our way in the near future?
Bought it! Thanks! Love Etsy, haven’t looked for vintage clothing there but now I will. 😉
I’m curious that it’s marked as ‘vintage’ but they seem to have multiple sizes, etc. Do you know if it’s dead stock?
The Real Real has the Anine Bing hunter green version for $325, which is too much for consignment clothing. The Real Real’s prices have gone through the roof. (boo!)
Beware The Real Real these days, both as a consignor and customer. I sent them 3 items in July that were lost in transit and the issue is still not resolved after multiple tries. Wish I had read the myriad BBB complaints before I engaged with them. Things have changed a lot since 2020 when I last consigned.
Have heard all kinds of bad things about RR recently from both a seller and buyer perspective. Including that have sold some things that are more $$$ than the designers original price. Not sure what’s going on with them.
I have a very similar Uniqlo jacket, which I think I paid $60 for. It’s easily the most versatile item I own – it can be worn alone or slipped under a peacoat for extra warmth ( I live in Southern California, where there’s no need to own a big heavy coat)
I just bought pretty much the exact same jacket at H & M for 48 bucks. Don’t shop there a lot but I definitely feel like I scored
I wish I’d seen that excellent Etsy find before I’d bought a nearly identical (and much pricier) version from All Saints!
Ok, I am seeing this jacket everywhere. I tried it on in HM & Uniqlo. Old Navy maybe too. It is the most unflattering garment I have ever laid eyes on. Is this the birkenstock of jackets ? I am alone here? Thanks ladies and Kim for keeping me from my work a wee bit each day. Have a wonderful day.
Some of them are really bulky, but the one I got from Uniqlo is slim and not puffy. Keep looking!
Well, I wouldn’t exactly say that you’re alone – I am not as far away from these as you are, though. To me the issue is more one of color – if one is going to wear a quilted item – and probably due to Kim, I am becoming more accepting of the idea – why not have a happy color? This is *my* question. … … … So maybe all the people buying these already have colorful wardrobes and they are looking for a way to tone things down. That would make sense. … … … I think my *very* favorite Kim coat was the one that reminded me of Elmo. (Why not??) Maybe I’ll go see if I can scrounge up the photo. That was a good one.
Though actually, just to contradict myself, my second favorite coat here was the sort of “furry” black one – I think somebody stole the first one, and then she got another one. It was an entrancing, textural (is that a word?) faux fur of some sort. (I think it was faux.) Unfortunately I don’t remember the names of the designers of any of these things. … … … Then again, a coat like the ones I like could attract a good deal of attention. Some people might not want that.
