I am aware that you are aware I have been known to spend on Nili Lotan—mostly her trousers, because they’re such a good fit for me. And occasionally her tops too. And maybe a sweatpant or three (I should add here that I pick a whole lot of this stuff up on the Real Real for comparatively cheap). But one item I haven’t been able to find on the Real Real—and don’t think is worth what Lotan charges for it—is this hoodie. But good news! I found this doppelganger, which also has the best summery hue. And actually, I think I like it better because the neckline is wider. So nice when life works out like this.
I have the Nili Lotan in red I bought on sale and almost never wore. I found the fabric to be a stiff rather than soft and drape-y. I keep thinking I should sell it or wear it and somehow continue to do neither.
Love the cut, hate the color. I don’t hate the color, but the color hates my skin-tone. There seem to be a lot of beige tone garments this year––between that color and the why-on-gods-green-earth would anyone in their right mind wear Little-House-On-The-Prairie tiers and ruffles at my age–– I might as well stick my head in the sand until fashion rolls over. Whomever it was that said, “Fashion is for the young.” definitely got that right this season. (I woke up at 4:30 with a dog in pain so I’m a tad frustrated and grumpy. sorry)
Word for word sans the hurting dog. Hope Betty (not a stalker, just a dog person w/a good memory) gets some relief and you get some sleep soon!
You DO have a good memory! Thank you, Eloise. It’s a slipped disc and not responding to steroids and the prescription pain killers are meh. Unfortunately not a lot of options.
cw, feel free to reach out to me as I spent 2020 helping Buster, my 9yr old wiener dog make it through two spinal surgeries. He hobbles but no pain and having been through it, I have some things that helped….
Good on you for sharing this, Valerie Rice. CW, I hope your sweet Betty can get some relief.
That’s wonderful about Buster, VR! And thank you for that offer, unfortunately we’re also dealing with an enlarged heart condition that won’t allow for surgery. I spent part of the afternoon searching for an animal acupuncture person in the area. I’ve heard good things about pain relief in dogs and horses with acupuncture.
One of my wiener dogs suffers from arthrosis and we’ve tried acupuncture, which seemed to have worked nicely, but I don’t think the patient was very taken with it. Our vet also offered a chiropractic “massage”, which he enjoyed a great deal more, but I have no idea if that would be advisable with a slipped disc. Get well soon!
Ugh….been there with a member of my crew. Hope you both are able to hang in there!
I am SO with you on the tiers and ruffles, CW! Nope. Never. Thinking about you and sweet Betty. ❤️
I was just having a conversation yesterday about how bad trends are this season. Hope Betty is better soon!
Thank you, Kim. I got to wondering since so many conversations have revolved around people “forgetting how to dress” semi-post-pandemic if the same idea “forgetting how to design” goes for designers. Most creative people I know have had to work really hard to reestablish connections to their creative juices so clothing designers must feel the same way. Right?
I’m just waiting for all of the beige, blush, ecru, greige clothes to go out of style so I can start shopping again.
The ruffles. So many ruffles on every piece of clothing these days (sweatshirts?!?). Waiting patiently for this trend to pass…
Nili on The Real Real….that is a very dangerous rabbit hole…not sure whether i should thank you or not…
I am all in favor of (cheaper) doppelgängers!
I found this sweatshirt at other online stores as low as $68 (The Basketry), in case anyone wants to pay a little less – just do a search and every other store offers it for less. Does Shopbop normally have such inflated prices? Agree about the ruffles and prairie-core look. I am also less than enthused about the voluminous sleeves on everything.
Shopbop will price match – not sure if you can still support Kim if you have to call them to confirm pricing but as buried on their customer service page:
Price Matching
At the time of purchase, Shopbop will match other online retailers’ advertised prices. Please call Shopbop at 1-877-746-7267 to verify an eligible match. Our policy requires:
• Price match must be on merchandise of identical style and color.
• The merchandise must be first quality.
• The other retailer’s promotions must be visible on their site for verification.
• The other retailer’s website must be an authorized distributor of the brand.
• The other retailer’s prices must be published in U.S. dollars
• Shopbop does not consider websites which operate as an auction, discounter or liquidator as competitors and therefore will not match prices of these retailers.
• During Shopbop promotions, items can be discounted through either a price match or a Shopbop promotion, but not a combination of both.
Yeah, I felt a little bad about pointing it out as I know that they kick back to Kim, but it was such a large difference.
I also love the beiges, it works really well with my olive-ruddy not-white skin. Plus goes perfectly with navy, charcoal, coffee, olive; everything in my closet. And an open neck is wonderful if you have curves up top or narrow shoulders. Seriously – this goes with everything I have. Some retailers seem to cater exclusively to the blonde and blue-eyed, but Nili Lotan has always designed in colors that flatter more than that, and I so appreciate it.
I am one of those (apparently) rarepeople who look great in this non-color! Thanks for the pointer!
Do we care that trends of the moment are bad? Do we care about trends? My inclination is not to. Trends can make it easier to find more iterations of a style I like (i.e. cargo pants, androgynous vests) but do I feel pressure to wear pastel sweaters or Clara Barton capes because they’re “in”? Nope. I like the lookalike hoodie better than the Nili Lotan. Great find, Kim!
