Brand I like: Arket

42

I actually discovered Arket in the GOACA comments section the other day, and now I’m borderline obsessed with this Swedish brand, which churns out subtle, Euro-chic, classic-with-a-twist pieces that are easy to wear—sort of like Isabel Marant before she got too tricky. Prices are about on par with Madewell or Sezane, and though I wish they made clothes larger than size 10, I still think they’re on to something. This Boucle coat, for instance, looks just fantastic and like it’s much pricier than it is.

A printed silk scarf is such a French lady’s secret wardrobe ingredient.

A really snappy blazer that also comes in some fun colors.

A suede tote that’s kind of perfectly slouchy, and big enough for all your stuff.

This poplin shirt comes in four great colorways, and I want them all.

How perfectly un-distressed and un-whiskered are these jeans?

A LOT of you are searching high and low for wool trousers this year, and this pair looks so cool and flattering.

A mohair blend cardigan with statement-y buttons.

This oversized down puffer has such a stylish, cocoonish shape.

And of course I’m in love with this nubby fleece jacket.

Not following your comment about Arket not offering larger sizes — they do. The boucle coat, for example, comes in a 44, or a US XL. Getting it here might be a problem, though!

That’s still just a size 14, depending on the measurements of the body they are designing for, still straight size.

I see why. Check out their reviews on Trustpilot. It looks like they have warehouse and systems issues. I’m guessing that they are limiting their reach until they figure it out.

They need to get on it and start shipping to the US! I’ve had my eye on them for the last year via a Canadian vlogger I follow on YouTube. It’s a subsidiary of H & M, and they’ve already got & Other Stories here, as well, so you wouldn’t think it would be that hard to arrange shipping to America.

Hi Kim…I’ve loved Arket for a long time. Been to the store in Stockholm & planning to visit the one in Copenhagen soon. In addition to women’s & men’s clothing there are home goods & a cafe that you actually want to eat at. Hopefully we’ll get an Arket in the US soon!

That suede bag is perfection. Tibi has some oversized fleece anoraks on sale, similar to the Arket.
I just recently learned about Tibi, and the owner has these great style videos on Instagram and YouTube. Pricing is Nili Lotan-ish

There is a store here in Austin that sells similar handbags. I was in the store recently with my daughter and we were both super impressed with the quality of their items. It’s expensive so apologies for that, but I did purchase a coat for my daughter––she wears it constantly and people ask her constantly where she got it. She sized down for the coat if anyone is interested.

When I went to London a couple months ago, I brought an extra empty duffel bag to fill up with Arket purchases—and I did! Great pieces. They’re beautiful and well-made, and they’ve held up well. I hope they’ll start shipping to the US one of these days.

Great roundup! I discovered them when going through I think the Copenhagen airport during a layover. So cool. Definitely will be on the lookout when I’m next in Europe! But also, please note, they are part of H&M, if that matters to anyone.

Hi Kim, long time blog reader/ podcast listener, first time commentator. I got so excited when I saw this post thinking that maybe Arket was finally shipping to US. Could you look into a package forwarding company for readers? There’s one that says they’ll provide a UK address for customers who want to order on UK sites. Arket has a UK site in pounds. They in turn will ship to USA. This could be the solution.

Yet, weirdly, they feature a US (and LA-based) athlete on their website. I’m already giddy about visiting Sweden for midsömmer & now checking out Arket, in person, is a bright red lingonberry on the sundae.

Love Arket – I wouldn’t compare it to Isabel Marant though, because they’re all about simple lines. Maybe more like Acne before they got ridiculously overpriced, or Filippa K. Def a Scandi aesthetic. I also like that they offer more sustainable goods like recycled polyester and down etc. They are my good to for basics with something extra, like a super long puffer coat or oversized blazer. They also have excellent home decor stuff! Sorry, not meaning to make you any more envious because they don’t ship ter to the US 🙂

Speaking as a person who is larger than a size 10/size 44, I would appreciate your considering not promoting brands that are so size-exclusive. I’m not sure what will force clothing companies to make clothes for all women of all sizes, but it seems to me a first step is for influencers and bloggers to promote only brands that cater to all customers. Given how much of the US population falls outside Arket’s (and others’) size range, we are not exactly in the minority, even if we are made to feel that way. Size discrimination is really discouraging and disheartening, and tends to feed the self-loathing that comes with living in a larger body. Thanks.

Not to quibble with your points, but a 44 is a US 16. Arket covers the same range of sizes as many other companies here in the States.

44 is a 14. The average size for women in the US is 16-18. Only around 25-33% of retailers make sizes above 14 so most retailers don’t make clothes for the average size. I think the point above still stands— folks who are not disadvantaged by the size discrimination shown by the majority of brands could show allyship and solidarity by not shopping from those brands.

      A 44 is a US 14. Which they think = 39 1/2″ bust.

Regardless, not selling anything average size or above should be disqualifying.

Maybe if they get enough newsletter subscribers from the US, they’ll see there is demand here. (You have to indicate your country of residence when you sign up for the newsletter.) They remind me a bit of their sister company, COS, in that the clothes seem to have beautiful lines.

Why do they show prices in USD if they don’t ship to the US?? I was happily loading my cart when the pop up, well, popped up, to tell me they won’t ship to me. Bummer. Adore that nubby jacket! The home goods are appealing, too. Le sigh!

Dammit! That suede tote bag is perfect. I have been looking for something like that for a long time. I want a bag that can be used crossbody and is big enough to hold a laptop. I am using a beat-up Form bag from Everlane, and it’s starting to fall apart.

If you’re taking requests, would love a post that has this type of bag on it.

I like their attempts at transparency and sustainability. It’s frustrating now because so many companies are touting their environmental and animal “kindnesses” but still won’t make public how they care for the humans who make the product. H & M is Arket’s parent company… And yes, they don’t ship to the U.S. at the moment.
