All manner of striped clothing, part 2

29

I think this slouchy tee might be the most perfect slouchy tee of all time.

And here’s a henley tee that I think is quite spiff too.

This dress is really more of a beach cover-up—it’s pretty sheer—and I think it’s quite cute. It also looks feather-light.

An adorable button-down with barely-there stripes.

And speaking of sleeves, I’m glad that this dress is just short of sleeveless, which is so much more flattering on the arm.

I wouldn’t wear this shirt buttoned all the way up the way it’s shown here, but I do think it’s pretty cool-looking, and I especially dig the oversized pockets.

And here’s something similar, but with contrasting stripes on the pocket.

A nicely unadorned peasant blouse with a smart band collar that makes it look just a touch more tailored than most peasant blouses.

I like how relaxed this short-sleeved button-down is.

The frayed edges here are a nice touch, if you’re into that type of thing.

An easy tee dress that I could see wearing all summer.

A heavier-weight chambray shirt that I could see wearing as a jacket.

This crisp button-down is ever-so-slightly cropped in the front, but not so much that you’d risk belly exposure.

I like the drop sleeves and oversized cut of this tee.

Question for the group. I have two long, lightweight summer dresses with high side slits. (similar to the AG striped dress) I’ve not worn them often because even a short slip doesn’t work due to the slit factor. Any suggestions on what to wear under? Bike shorts?

This is such a useful question. I would like to know, too. Even when you get a slip with slits, those slits have a way of not syncing up with the dress or skirt slits.

I wonder if you could wear a slip you don’t mind showing (black or a fun color? some trim?) or add a small piece of fabric to close the slit up just a bit.

I am in raptures knowing that I am not the only one who cares about and wears a slip. Slip-wearing was drilled into me early and often, and now I realize it’s a marvelous solution to so many clothing problems. But retailers don’t seem to know that.

Meg (and all) have you ever tried these slip / bike short hybrids?

I really like these for dresses & skirts that don’t work with my slips. They help the dress hang nicely, provide modesty in gusts of wind, and are great when it is warm out but not hot (I run cold though so take that with a grain of salt). They come in different lengths and lots of neutral-ish colors.

I don’t recall who said this – it was some TV fashion/style guru, I think, but I’ve always thought it was brilliant – something to the effect that “We’ve all got legs, and so what if someone catches a glimpse of leg?” Slips are something that I see in the same category as girdles: They’re for a bygone era and Donald Trump.

Is the idea to wear them and stay cool, or to wear them and not flash people? For hot weather you could sew up the slits a bit or, failing that, add a light loose layer under, maybe a long skirt or loose linen pants. I like pants with dresses sometimes, though the details matter. Though some people are against the whole thing. Ime most slips are made of a synthetic, which might add unwanted warmth (though I too am otherwise a fan of slips for the non-bunchiness effect). If you are *only* worried about flashing people, sewing up the slits a bit might work, or the jockey items. You could also just shorten them into tunics and wear with pants or skirt. I am definitely a path-of-least-resistance type when it comes to clothes. The dresses sound like very nice items though. You really can’t beat a woven when it’s hot, I think.

Alternatively you could have a tailor sew the seam down to the level of your comfort.

Such a great selection as always. I am saved from purchasing by having just ‘weeded’ my closet over the long weekend and knowing that I have at least a dozen striped tees plus more striped woven shirts at the ready.

Looks like in about 7-14 days (+ pandemic-related shipping/don’t touch the package, yet! delays) we may be able to identify fellow GoaCA (and at least one daughter) by the slouchy tee!

Am I the only one who doesn’t find cap sleeves flattering? They tend to hit me at the widest part of my upper arm. I think sleeveless or a regular short sleeve looks much better.

No. But then again, where the cap is can be almost anywhere, but, no.

I am getting some broken links, about half of those I clicked. The issue could be over here though. Except for the fourth pic, I don’t remember which they were. Sorry! No one else has mentioned it so maybe it’s my machine.

I only seem to get with Nordstrom links. I am using an old bowser though.

What a great stripe collection! Do I already have four or six b/w striped tees? Yes, but that didn’t stop me from ordering that wonderfully slouchy AllSaints tee.

The Deminist! Looks like my college BF’s oxford and my long lost beloved Current-Elliot denim shirt had a baby. I’m not a button-down chick, but this delish garment is sooo delightful

That AllSaints tee is indeed perfect. Wondering if I order it and have it sent to my daughter’s address in Brooklyn, I’ll be obligated to buy one for her as well. 😉 There’s also a dress on the AllSaints site on sale that is calling to me. Lordy. Wait, I just read Eloise’s post––AllSaints is owned by Amazon?!?!?!?!? What fresh hell have we landed in now?!

I believe AllSaints has partnered with Amazon to provide Prime members with free shipping from the AS site, according to Slate. Amazon doesn’t own them, it’s just a Prime member perk they’re offering.

Kimbersam is right. It is the pandemic package on the doorstep tax. I have one with my daughter. I have taken to tackling the UPS man and then tucking and rolling into the nearest bush so that she cannot see what I have ordered.

I dug around a bit and may have misspoke (mistyped?). It looks like they may simply offer Amazon Pay….still makes me cringe but (perhaps) not quite as much https://pay.amazon.com/blog/success-story-allsaints

Slouchy AllSaints (apparently now owned by Amazon, boo!!) tee is on its way to me in both colors, thanks! Current plan is to return one, but if it really is as perfect as it looks….

DAMN! If only that red/white striped button down weren’t cropped it would be perfect. But I’m protesting cropped these days. At least during a pandemic it feels like we should have full-length garments.

I was already eyeing that Club Monaco dress. It looks easy and cool. Now I have the GOACA seal of approval.
