All manner of striped clothing, part 1

16

What is there to say about stripes that I haven’t said already? After eight years of writing this blog, not an awful lot. They are the easiest print to wear by far, and the easiest one to mix with other prints for sure (just remember the golden rule of pattern mixing and make sure each item has one color in common). And while I like them all year round, they’re especially great for this time of year. Check out this cute polo shirt from Kule, purveyors of some of the coolest striped items out there.

I like the slouchiness and poppy hue of this shirtdress, and I like the drop shoulders too.

Another shirtdress, this one with a spiff self-belt in the back, from Cos.

This tunic is on the sheer side, so I’d wear it with a cami, or just use it as a beach cover-up.

A pretty striped shirtdress from Vince that would look good belted or not.

The chevron stripes on this Saloni dress (currently marked down) contrast brightly with a spray of florals.

This Nili Lotan Shirt could not be a whole lot more classic, and her shirts only get better with age.

A popover shirtdress that I could see kicking around on the weekend in.

I like the contrasting pocket stripes on this flowy shirt, and also the winning charcoal and yellow color combination.

I really really really want this Nili Lotan dress—it just looks exactly like what I want to be wearing all summer.

A well-priced striped tee with a nice deep scoopneck.

I’m sorry, but these Tretorn slides are the awesomest—like a party for your feet.

I love a linen tee—they just hang better—and the micro-stripes on this one are so chic.

A very sportif polo shirt with bold gold buttons.

It’s Madewell’s Central Shirt—which is one of my favorite summer shirts—in a cool striped pattern.

And finally, this V-neck top reminds me of an old-school rugby shirt, but updated.

I did not the rule regarding mixing patterns, I always wondered what the secret was..are there any more rules, suggestions for mixing patterns. I somehow missed that learning that in my 58 years! 🙂

That cute orangey striped dress reminds me a lot of the blue/white striped one that you featured, Kim, and a lot of you purchased. I never tire of stripes like I do of other lesser patterns. Yes – I rank stripes very high in my fashion book. Can’t wait for part 2!

Last week I picked up the Vince and Club Monaco striped dresses. They should be arriving this week and I’m excited to see how they look irl on my body. I didn’t even realize I must have been craving stripes until you posted them together:)

Gritting my teeth to stop myself from ordering those Tretorn rainbow slides. I already have pool slides!

I ordered the Madewell Central shirt and sadly had to return it. I think you have to be thin and smaller on top for it to be cute… it’s terribly boxy and the sleeves hit the arm at the most unflattering spot ( and my arms are fine, I’m not self conscious about them).

I am a complete strip convert and half of my tops fall into this category now. I think they bring a crispness that other patterns do not. I didn’t know the pattern mixing rule so thank you for that, it makes total sense!

Your typo (“strip convert”) made this Queen of Typos giggle – thank you!!

Love the Tretorns! I bought this J Crew shirtdress (which I think was mentioned here at some point) and it satisfied my stripes craving at a reasonable price point: https://www.jcrew.com/p/womens_category/dressesandjumpsuits/buttonup-shirtdress-in-stripe/AK243?color_name=saffron-pink

I never turn down anything with a stripe. At the moment I’m not ordering anything since I fly out in a couple of weeks….BUT, if I were it would be that linen tee for sure and the Treasure and Bond lightweight tunic and the Cos dress is calling to me in her siren way…

That Kule shirt! The model is sort of Ali MacGraw. I am 45 and still want to magically wake up looking like her in The Getaway.

You are not alone. The only time in my adult life I cut my hair above my shoulders I was under the influence of Ali in “Players,” a terrible move about tennis. In that film she sported a great shag with long bangs. Of course the second I realized the haircut didn’t entitle the wearer to Ali’s face I began growing my hair back and didn’t cut it short again till I was well into my 60s.

Quarantine has me totally crushing on pool slides…and those tretorns are my third pair since this started…they’re not so sinful considering One of my earlier “complete purchase” hits were the Jenni kaynes which are on my feet at some point every single day…
