Well, freezing winter weather has arrived in New York, so my mind is on warming accoutrements like these. I think this sherpa beanie looks as cozy as it does cool.
And why not a balaclava? I love the bright colors against black here.
I like the look of a furry trapper hat, but I won’t wear fur, so this faux option looks like a good choice.
I owned and loved this adorable hat, but lost it in my travels some time this fall, and I keep waffling on whether I want to re-purchase it, but I think in the end I will.
A cute pom pom hat that looks hand-knit.
I love a grey leopard print, and this one is so good.
I really dig the contrasting pom pom on this one.
A toasty cashmere themal hat in an appealing raspberry-ish hue.
The turban-ish vibe of this one is kind of glam.
I own this balaclava in black and love it: it’s thin and easy to wear and very toasty.
I just think this Fair Isle hat is the cutest thing ever, and the fact that it’s yellow takes it over the top for me.
A cashmere beanie with a cool blue-on-blue colorway.
And finally: a really nicely-priced cashmere beanie from Quince.
Texas weather has been all over the place––last Saturday when I took Betty out for her long afternoon walk it was 81 degrees at 4:30 pm––the next morning at 7 am it was 23 with a wind chill of 13. Today is just a thirty degree digression from 46 this morning to 70-something this afternoon. Whining aside…I LOVE that Fair Isle, but in the raspberry––so pretty! And the cream with the pompom and the ear flaps. Truly pretty much every hat shown. Great selection, Kim!
CW, sounds like NC weather! We went from having several 70+ degree days over Christmas and New Year’s to a quick temperature drop and snow storm day before yesterday. I guess that was our entree into winter because it’s now in the 40’s.
I love all of these hats, too! I am still looking for a nice, slouchy knit hat with a pom pom top which seem to be elusive for my fat head.
I think I can top both of these. Here in Louisville, CO, we were in the mid-60s last Wednesday. On Thursday it was in the 40s with wind gusts over 100 mph. A fire broke out several miles away and quickly spread to my town and the next one over. Over 1000 homes burned to the ground. On Friday, we got 8″ of snow — the first moisture of any kind in many, many months.
That Colorado fire was crazy bad and I am so glad to hear you’re okay, Stephanie. I hope those you care about also made it through the fire safe and sound.
For us Girls of a Certain Age who knit, I highly recommend Woolly Wormhead hat designs. She’s absolutely amazing. https://www.woollywormhead.com/
Wow! I so don’t knit (lost cause, trust me) but gorgeous!!
Thanks, Gemma. I’m a knitter and these are great!
Thanks, Gemma! I know how to knit, but I have never actually made anything. This looks like just the thing to help me get it together!
Ohhhhh, thank you for this post. I was JUST bitching about having to buy a hat – well, not literally *just* since it is so early, but…. Beanies are sooo hard for me since most roll up and give me “condom head” – my absolute favorite one from Margaret O’Leary did not, but, unfortunately, I’ve lost – and replaced – it so many times over almost a decade and it is now too expensive to just be lost again – if you do not tend to lose hats, get one and think of me. It really is great. A few years ago I found a heavy knit fleece-lined beanie from Nirvana Designs that I liked enough to buy multiples of, but the one I am down to is not sewn correctly and bunches up terribly. All that typed, I am tempted by the turban-ish one. Here is the link to my long (many times lost) fave: https://www.margaretoleary.com/products/double-cashmere-beanie?_pos=2&_sid=8b101b32b&_ss=r
I hope someone is keeping a list of fashion descriptions because “condom head” is a classic. Thank you for that, Eloise! And that Margaret O’Leary is beautiful.
Margaret O’Leary has beautiful items. That camo sweater has major Kim vibes!
I also have a rough time with “condom head” that or I look like a super nerdy schoolgirl. I think it’s the combo of my giant melon head and crazy, curly hair.
Speaking of curly hair (and giant melon heads that get condom head) I love satin lined beanies. I’ve gotten good ones here:

I have 2 cashmere sweaters from Quince and I am very pleased with them. The quality is really good, they fit true-to-size, the colors are great and the pilling problem has been surprisingly low. I don’t know about the working conditions of their employees however which seems like it would be good to know. Will have to explore that.
That turban is giving me major Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard vibes and I need it immediately.
Those Quince hats are really cheap. Has anyone gotten them?
I’d also love to know more about Quince products if anyone can share. I’ve been tempted but I wonder about the quality, and at that price, whether the people who made the clothes were paid a fair wage.
If we’re linking, I love my beanie from eko-logic — recycled cashmere, fun colors and designs. I believe I’m on my 3d. Lost one on the metro, lost a second I don’t know how, or maybe it’s lurking in a corner of my old house (my ex still lives there). But I don’t regret any of them. https://ekologic.com/shop/accessories/hats?style=5498
Love the ekologic philosophy and their hats are beautiful!
What great looking hats (and the owner answered my emailed question super quickly)! I just succumbed to the Quince “cheapie” (at least then I won’t be too mad at myself if it bunches or when I lose it) but am tempted to treat myself to one of these, too. Hats are hard online, though.
