All I want to wear is hoops these days, and who knows why: I think it has something to do with how equally good they look whether I’ve got my hair up or am wearing it down, but beyond that I really have no idea. And I’m beginning to think that there might be something more interesting than a classic hoop, so that’s what I went looking for. This wishbone shape is so delicate and also elegant.
These pave hoops are just big enough to make a statement, but small enough to still come off delicate.
A triple hoop that’s the perfect thing to throw on in order to feel polished for a Zoom meeting.
This slightly arty-seeming earring looks pricey to me, but it’s from Madewell.
These are the perfect combination of tough and streamlined.
This pair is just ever so slightly preppy.
Brass hammered hoops are just classics, and I love the size of these.
I like how delightfully chunky these are.
This malachite pair from Pamela Love is just gorgeous; here it is in lapis, which is also quite beautiful.
I adore this big hexagonal pair—they’re kind of modish, without being costumey.
This fabulous crinkle hoop pair from Ten Thousand Things has such a lovely, organic appeal.
I’m not especially crazy for pearls, but I do like the look of them on these wire hoops.
These pave diamod huggies are a chic way to have a little sparkle close to your face; you could also go for this CZ pair and no one would be the wiser.
The beaded effect here is nicely subtle.
Rectangular hoops are my thing.
I’m also so into hoops these days that there are only 3 pairs of earrings I’ve worn for about the last year: Small gold twisted rope hoops, smallish chunky gold hoops, and a wispy large pair. They suit every sartorial situation! And they ARE everywhere right now!
LOVE the look of those TTT beauties. They remind me of these in case anyone is more of a silver person (am paying it forward as someone here recommended Lisa during an early pandemic post). I adore them but haven’t worn them – or any jewelry- even my rings – much – but that is not because I don’t love them. https://www.etsy.com/listing/193787928/sterling-silver-organic-oval-earrings?ref=search_recently_viewed-1&frs=1
Oops, I left out a “lately” at the end of my comment. I used to wear jewelry every day – sigh.
I live in a gold pair my mom gave me years ago. (I am lazy about jewelry.) Once upon a time, I had the most perfect tough-girl pair that I loved so much: small, silver, with small spikes that looked like thorns that pointed in towards the earlobe. I lost one while making out with someone at a party, and then lost the other in a move. I have searched for years for something comparable, but no dice.
Kim, I hope you would be willing to do a post on cool pearls. I love them, and I hope that you will warm up to them too.
I will give it some thought, Gemma.
Your a Texas girl !! Gotta have pearls, it’s what we southern girls have to clutch !! My husband gave me a set for Christmas ,they were beautifully boxed( still not as pretty as my grandmother’s were packaged, hers came from France). I just don’t like the pearl studs, they looked great on the hoop in your article.
Lingua Nigra has gorgeous hoops of many designs, similar in vibe to the Ten Thousand things pair, but more accessibly priced: https://linguanigra.com/collections/earrings
African hoops are not the vibe here !
Thanks – just signed up for the mailing list so that I can buy more things I don’t need (but will wear) once this mess is over!
I have the mask issue + reading glasses chain (I went there) + sometimes earbuds. If anyone has any idea on this issue, please let me know!!
Due to this same situation I’ve given up on earrings outdoors and am instead wearing bracelets more to feel even a little dressed up.
Love hoops, but have found myself wearing mostly posts since pandemic started as they are easier with the mask.
I’ve found that true “huggie” style hoops don’t get caught in mask strings, etc. My go-to pair have a wide hoop so they’re not too delicate… a step up from my usual studs!
Same here! I’ll find myself reaching for my dangly earrings to then put them back when I remember I’d have to referee a fight between them and my mask.
Kim,
Do you have recommendations on jewelry sites that include clip-on hoops? I never got around to getting my ears pierced, and don’t care to anymore.
Would love to see a post on clip ons too- I can’t pierce bc of skin issues.
Thank you for this, Kim, and thanks for including a range of prices and materials.
I finally got a pair of tiny huggie hoops that I don’t need to take off because I’d gotten so slack about wearing earrings even in Before Times and I don’t want my holes to close. Months later, I’m thing of staying with sleep/shower /mask friendly huggies but maybe something bolder.
You are so good at earrings! I love those wishbones; they remind me of Soko’s, but their brass really aggravates my metal allergy.
.
I am definitely in dangly earring withdrawal. I miss them.
Give grayling jewelry a try – really great for sensitive skin
