I know that much of the rest of the world has moved on from soft to hard clothes, but the fact that I’ve been ill and homebound for most of the past two weeks has me thinking of comfort first. All I want to wear are sweatshirts right now, and the good news is that there are so many of them out there out there to choose from, starting with this luxe velour hoodie.
I like the shape here, and especially the tapered arms.
A cute pink specimen (it also comes in a few other colors) with a generous split neckline.
The terry texture here is so good, as is the slouchy silhouette.
A shibori-type print in purple and grey: kind of weird, but it works.
This quilted mock-neck sweatshirt would add texture to a layered look.
This patchwork number has a fun, quilt-y quality.
I don’t typically go for lace-up tops—they often feel cheap to me. But this sweatshirt feels sporty and right up my alley.
A short-sleeved, funnel neck version that looks appealingly sculptural.
And why not an oversized houndstooth print?
A subtle camo print with a nice, loose neckline.
This turtleneck comes in several good solid colors, but I’m partial to this striped iteration.
A V-neck sweatshirt nice enough to easily sub in for a sweater.
And finally: the poppy hue of this contrast collar sweatshirt is just a delight.
So late to the party! The Madewell shirt doesn’t come in my size but I love the concept. The quilting is super-easy, I have so many scraps, so all I need is the sweatshirt.
I was just looking at some mail, and I saw that Nordy’s has online access to chats with one of a team of diverse Santas, for a very reasonable amount. Usually I try to hold the line on Christmas until after T Day, so I hope folks will pardon me for mentioning it now. I might forget, later.
That last one….! Have been debating this one for a while: https://mpatmos.com/products/nymane-jordyn-pullover?_pos=3&_sid=266b91bef&_ss=r
Doooo it …
If it had a good, it would be mine already.

If you have short hair, DO IT. If you have long hair it would always be getting sucked into that cowl-ish neck and, personally, that would drive me batty
The quilted mock neck Everlane number is quite appealing! Love the non-blousy arms––gives it a modernist sleeker look which I lean toward and means you can fit it under a jacket without sleeve-bunch-up. This morning I took Betty out for her early morning constitutional––it was 39 degrees and my knees, for the first time ever in my life, were a tad achey which made me think I need a pair of Flashdance leg warmers to keep my knees warm. May we bring those back, please? As long as we’re bringing back velour…
Leg warmers here in Montreal are still a thing ! Some of my most chic friends wear them in winter, so i feel i can do the same 🙂
Following up on a post you did a couple of months ago: I bought the Nili Lotan “Rayne” hoodie sweatshirt in heather gray and it is perfect for me at this moment in life (I’m a mountain girl who hangs outside with dogs). It was pricey, but it’s taking the beating I give clothes quite well, and I shall wear it until it falls off me in tatters. I call that a score. So, thanks, Kim! I would have never heard of Nili Lotan if it weren’t for you.
Velour is a bit too “7th grade in the late 70’s” for me.
And that’s why I like it 🙂
Can you please fix the link for the first sweatshirt? 🙂
Sorry – I meant the second sweatshirt (black from Off Fifth).
Love the velour but my cats (and their fur) would have me looking truly crazy in no time lol!
I’ve been on the hunt for a zip front sweatshirt/hoodie because I love a zipper for temperature regulation but this is proving surprisingly hard to find! Hoping for tips…
Maybe this one? https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/daily-practice-by-anthropologie-snap-hoodie?category=SEARCHRESULTS&color=001&searchparams=q%3Danthropologie%2520snap%2520hoodie%26sayt%3Dtrue&type=STANDARD&quantity=1
And, Anthro’s BF sale kicks into gear today for Anthro members, with all (or most) items being 30 percent off, so I grabbed the short sleeve funnel neck featured above and a few things that had been rotting in my cart (ditched them first and used Kim’s link).
I bought a Gap zip front hoodie in September. It’s just a plain grey sweatshirt type hoodie, longer than most hoodies out now and it’s 90% cotton and 10% recycled polyester. Bonus is it’s surprisingly warm. More utilitarian than fashionable, but perfect for a watching tv or reading a book or walking the dog situation. Second bonus––you can throw it in the washer and in the dryer without much, if any, shrinkage.
Same here! And one this month from Banana Republic Factory in cobalt blue. They’re soft, warm, well-made, well-priced, layerable — everything CW said.
I feel that velour sweatsuits should never have left. I too may be ensconced soon. Maybe just a top though.
