10 plaid shirt jackets

9

I am a compulsive checker of the weather forecast: I need to know that I’m dressing as close to ideally for the climate outside as possible, whenever I leave the house. And when I’m going away—like I am this weekend, to Philly—I get even more obsessive about it.  And what I’ve learned from this is that some cool weather is coming, like into the 50s at night, and as much as I love the last dredges of summer weather we’ve been having, right now I’m feeling down for a change. These jackets are ideal for the first seriously cool days of fall, and later on, when it’s even colder, they’re great layered over a hoodie or heavy sweater. This one is just so great and simple and graphic.

The aqua print here is rather delightfully unexpected.

I kind of dig the slightly furry texture of this one.

Could Lumberjack Chic be a thing? Because I think this amazing specimen qualifies.

This dusty rose hue is actually quite versatile.

The huge pockets on this camel and sky blue number are just fantastic.

This is rather great but also kind of splurgy; here’s something similar that’s more reasonably priced.

The combination of blue and green is just so good here.

A well-priced and flattering option that comes in a lot of good colorways.

The barely-there check on this jacket is both elegant and sophisticated. I think I really want this one.

A brand I just discovered, Naomi Nomi, just released (dropped? in current parlance?) some exquisite merino wool oxfords this morning. More on the shirt end of the shirt-jacket spectrum. I’m trying not to buy anything, but it’s all so pretty, as are these selections.

Kim — While I generally am not a fan of shackets, some years ago you extolled a Uniqlo x Ines de la Fressange white one. I was sure I wouldn’t like it, but your word carries weight — I ordered it and it’s now one of my favorite things for cool late summer/early fall evenings, as well as adding some polish to a casual outfit. Of course, I’m sure none of these would look good on me, but then again…that aqua one is pretty fine.

I have a vintage Pendleton 49’er Jacket that I picked up on Ebay for under $100. It’s gorgeous and I get compliments on it everywhere I go. The Pendleton 49er is the OG shacket! Pendleton still sells the style new but the selection of colors is better when you go vintage.

Love shackets — prefer the straight hem vs the shirt hem for greater versatility.

Random comment — the model in the first pic with the beautiful white and black checkered shacket has lips like Michelle Pfeiffer’s. Very rare!

Not a stinker in the bunch! Great selection, Kim. The aqua Madewell one has such a great 1940’s vibe to it. And I don’t know if Lumberjack Chic is a thing, but it made me think of the Instagram account: matriarchybuild (I think Jenn Romolini mentioned them maybe?) Super inspiring account of women builders, designers, contractors etc. And an add on to yesterday’s super cheap chic thingy…I find I need a couple of indoor/outdoor rugs and it so happened that the Strategist posted about just such a thing so this morning I ordered a couple of rugs from Mad Mats on their recommendation which I hope are as wonderful as they appear to be. (and if I remember correctly I believe Kim has posted about Mad Mats sometime in the long past)

Have fun in Philly! I recommend checking out Philly AIDS Thrift on Passyunk Avenue. I’m guessing that is where your BF’s cool musician students shop.
