When simple things are hard

So many of you have come to me with a seemingly simple request: an A-line denim skirt with a grown-up hemline. In other years, this hasn’t been such a tough one to pull together, but for some reason, they are in scant supply at the moment. But I do like this black APC number, which hits right above the knee. It’s almost the only true A-line I could find, which is just so annoying.

This patchwork option is pretty adorable, and I’m not always a fan of patchwork.

I like the length here, and the generous-but-not-precarious slit makes it wearable.

The exterior pockets here are quite cute.

maxi-length, something I almost never show (again, not usually a fan), but there’s something about this that seems nicely laid-back and summery to me.

A good length, and I like the button-up business.

A perfect yoga pant that doubles as a real-life pant

One of my favorite teachers, Kate Posch at Sky Ting Yoga (aka my home away from home), mentioned that this capri pant from Outdoor Voices is as ideal for life outside the yoga studio as in, and she is right: they are super, super lightweight, comfortable as anything and amazingly flattering. (I know that it’s tough to call a pair of pants flattering and expect that to apply to everyone, but I am wide of hip and they make me look skinnier than I am.)

10 highly wearable shirtdresses

Shirtdresses can be hard. Too many of them are narrow, and tough on those with a tummy, hips, or a backside of substance. But good ones are worth seeking out, because they look so crisp on scorching days. I like when they’re a touch flowy, or at least flowier on the lower half. They’re more feminine that way too. Here is a classic example of an old-style shirtwaist dress, only loosened up a bit for comfort.

There is a very subtle striping on this one that I’m crazy for.

You would never know this is a plus option based on what the model looks like, so I am forced to point it out. I like the blue a lot, and think it’s quite office-appropriate.

The light stripes here are so summery and appealing.

dress you couldn’t help but feel feminine in.

I think I’ve shown this Universal Standard dress before, but it is just so good.

A classic black version, and very well-priced.

Red and blue stripes are always a favorite of mine, and the fabric is feather-light.

This is wait-listed in many sizes—it’s part of a collab between Teresa Maccapani Missoni and plus size retailers Eloquii—but it is so pretty I had to include it.

Another striped number, with a nice, roomy cut.
