It’s incredible to think about how, just in my relatively short lifetime, both Pride and drag have gone from being deeply subversive to mainstream. And when you also consider that Wigstock began during the AIDS crisis, when there was so much open hostility to gay men (let’s pause for a second to appreciate the fact that some of the folks in those Polaroids are probably among the lost)…I mean, did any of us ever think this would happen? I know Pride is a mixed bag for queer folks now and that wider acceptance has a downside to it, but with all of this Agent Orange-mitigated garbage coming at us constantly, it’s helpful to be reminded what organized, persistant, creative resistance can achieve. Happy Pride, everyone.
It is VERY helpful to be reminded that persistent resistance works. Thanks, DeDe!
I never turn down the opportunity to look at pictures of dogs and these are spot-on.
Well said, Dede.
It’s a tender day; we euthanized our very sick 4 year old dog. Those photos were a balm. Thanks.
I’m so sorry—there is nothing quite like the loss of a pet. I had to put down my dear Weetzie about eight years ago and it was awful.
