Based on this trailer, I am so down for the new season of Succession. (YouTube)- And as long as we’re watching trailers, here’s the one for Zola, which was based on an epic Twitter feed about two strippers on a road trip gone terribly wrong. (YouTube)
- This was educational: 25 newsletter writers on their favorite newsletters. (The Cut)
- I’m not a big reality TV fan but I do love dogs—hence my enjoyment of this guide to the best pooch-themed reality TV. (Vulture)
- Some beautiful shots from the last decade of movies. (Kottke)
- Perhaps you haven’t listened yet to this week’s episode of Everything is Fine, in which Jenn and I discuss packing tips, eBay rookie mistakes, pleasure gluttony, our desire to become cognitive super-agers one day, and so much more. And guys, why not consider joining our Patreon, where we post playlists, bonus episodes, and lots more fun (and exclusive!) content?
- The story of this ancient Christian nudist sect is rather fascinating. (Messy Nessy Chic)
- What’s next for Britney Spears in the battle to dissolve her conservatorship. Also, you might want to check out this piece if you’re looking for an authoritative (and disturbing) overview of the situation. (Elle, New Yorker)
- Hilarious. (McSweeney’s via Go Fug Yourself)
- I’m always up for a good oral history, and this one—of the comedy classic Legally Blonde—is just tremendous. (NYT)
- And finally: check out the street style—both gorgeous and absurd—at the recent Paris couture shows. (Vogue)
Vogue just posted a photo of Jane Birkin at Cannes. Her outfit is, in my opinion, PERFECT!!!
I cannot understand why there’s so much love for hoof shoes in Paris. My god, they’re an eyesore! Guess I’m just not with it enough.
I wish I understood more about fashion, but I guess one either gets it or not. The off-duty models (I’m guessing) looked relaxed and happy and isn’t youth and beauty a great accessory here?
But if you’re wearing those big boots (#123) or tweedy jacket (in july?) and then see them on someone else are you vindicated for your taste (and presumably wallet) or do you feel like a carbon copy?
I also thought that the best dressed people were very comfortable in their style, no matter how outrageous, while other people looked sort of awkward and like they didn’t quite own their unusual combos – that seemed to make all the difference in whether an outfit worked.
The New Yorker piece on the Britney Spears conservatorship was beyond thorough and left me so sad and angry.
Does anyone know a way to do thumbnails on the street fashion pics? I am irritable with the onlineliness. Yet, mildly curious.
The McSweeney’s piece is SO funny!
And I take a particular interest in “Succession” because they were filming in our neighborhood, so my daughter and I intentionally went looking and when we found them, we played stupid – like we had no idea what was going on – and walked through the set. We had to wait while they were actively filming (we’re star struck but we’re not a-holes) so we chatted with the assistant who spilled the beans.😊. We saw Brian Cox and some other guy, but I was really searching for Mr. Darcy!

Completely unrelated to links, but I hope everyone in the NYC area (and the rest of the mid-Atlantic) is staying safe and dry today. Climate change is mother-bleeper.
It passed over us quickly, DeDe! But thanks!
This is another good one, from McSweeneys: https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/what-your-favorite-90s-rock-band-says-about-the-type-of-bored-suburban-dad-you-are-today
Very funny!
I wondered if #35 was Kanye and I was right!!! Also, I love all the looks- the wonderfully inventive and weird ones, and of course, the classically chic ones. Glad to see people dressing up again!
So crowded there and so many people who aren’t wearing masks…we’re doomed.
It’s likely that either people are vaxxed or they put their masks away for the photo op or both.
I guessed Kanye too!
This was one of the best street style slideshows I’ve seen in a while, with lots of actual people with their actual style. Particular faves: the girl in 52 and 91 has amazing style and really knows how to stride through a shot. I know she’s a model but she’s come up with two unique and interesting looks and she is SELLING them (and those pink sneakers).
Also, the older lady in the check kimono and polka dot wrap (73) is a master class in pattern mixing and I could stare at her all day.
That trailer for Succession has me very excited about the new season. I need more cousin Greg!
