“This new dating show has me seriously wondering if these are the final days. (The Cut)” LOLZ
Ha! I wonder if I unconsciously remembered that.
This weeks EIF podcast is a good one! For me the debate isn’t about going grey, but more should I cut my hair short (it’s past my shoulders and I’ve worn it long for decades) or is this just another thing I “feel” I should do now that I’m older? And how does one cope with the fact that as you age you also look more male. With my hair pulled back and a baseball hat on I look like a little old MAN. So disturbing. And that’s my online therapy questions for the morning. Great weekend, everyone!
Are you kidding me? Your hair is GLORIOUS! I’m totally envious.
C-dub! It’s so funny you mention this – I actually just cut my hair short last week after something like 4 years of growing it. The last haircut I had before that was over 2 years ago. Basically what it came down to for me was that while I liked the femininity of long hair, it was just too much of a hassle. Washing it, “styling” is (read: putting it in a crappy pony tail), the heaviness of it, the fact that it was constantly trying to choke me and sneak into my food while I was eating – it was a major pain in the ass. So I found a nice lady to whack it off into a Garance Dore-ish undercut and I feel so much better. Also, you are gorgeous. You could wear a trash can on your head and still look chic. If you really just can’t be arsed with your lengths anymore, just get a good consult somewhere and go for it (a pony + baseball hat is not a good indicator of how short hair will look! I know you know this!) Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
Oh, DeDe, you always cheer me up! I am almost embarrassed to admit I looked on Amazon this morning for short hair wigs thinking I could order one, see how I look in short hair and then return it. However, just typing that sentence wears me out and I immediately recognize that I am far too lazy to return anything so I’d be stuck with a wig that would not bring me joy. No doubt the short vs long will keep me occupied for the rest of the summer.
Having long hair is an entire JOB with the washing and tying back and the tangles and bullshit. But may I suggest, if you are short-hair hesitant, that there is the middle ground of a medium-length haircut? Much less bullshit involved. You don’t have to sport a pixie (which very easily can morph into a horror when the wrong stylist comes at you with scissors). Also the “looking more male” thing as we age is so interesting, because have you noticed that certain men look more like old ladies as they age? God has a pretty good sense of humor.
This has nothing to do with anything but in my mind’s eye I had pictured you with hair a couple inches below your jawline. I need to reconfigure my mental image pronto!
What TED talk?
I highly recommend Summer of Soul! It is a joyful gem.
My mother was a Southern, sorority girl in the late 1950’s . She has always told me that everyone in the house was absolutely obsessed with Princess Margaret in those days. One time I asked her why the fascination with Margaret and not Queen Elizabeth. Her reply: “Well…Margaret was the one having all the fun while Elizabeth had to be all proper and BORING.” She also said that Margaret was a big reason they all decided to take up smoking. Ha!
Speaking of weird dating shows, my daughter tells me there’s a show that airs during Prime time in Ireland called “Naked Attraction,” where the contestants are all naked, but their face is hidden. Am I the only one late to the game on this? Intriguing concept….hope the studio isn’t too cold.
Sha’Carri! Yes! We’ve been following the trials and she is such a joy to watch. Love her!
My copy of “Ninety-nine Glimpses of Princess Margaret” is on my nightstand It’s one of my favorite books to dip in and out of. I’ve bought copies to give. So glad to see it get a mention here!
