I just wanted to sincerely thank everyone for their kind and supportive replies to my comment yesterday. They meant a lot and I took every one of them to heart. Kim, I also want you to know that your blog (and all of the wonderful comment contributors) has provided a much needed daily respite from this chaos and I have read it every day, even on my worst days. And it adds a tiny bit of sunshine on those worst days. Thank you everyone. One last and most important thing….the returning trend of pleated pants need to go into a dumpster fire. They flatter no one.
I concur, Mindy! And wishing you and your daughter only the best.
I logged on this morning (I log on every weekday morning!) to say how much I appreciated yesterdays sharing. I don’t think we’ll know the true cost of this pandemic for years, but what I read yesterday gives me a glimpse. While there was much sadness, grief and struggle posted I was also heartened by what an amazingly strong, resilient group of women post here and that does me so much good. (and I agree with you, Mindy, about effing pleated pants)
I love the British TV recommendations, although, gotta say, I’ve seen almost all of them. Hurry up and create more, Brits! Loved the dance piece, too. Gwyneth – so predictable. Thanks for the links, Kim! Looking forward to another round of Tina and Amy via The Golden Globes.
So glad you took comfort in all those kind words, Mindy. My readers are the best readers.
Love the ballet link and the British recommendations! Gwyneth, not so much!
A great collection of links, Kim. The conversation between Roxanne Gay and Monica Lewinsky was one of the most interesting things I’ve read in a while. And just wanted to second your comment about “Promising Young Woman.” Definitely a must-see.
Loved learning this morning about the Fuggerei. Yes to safe, comfortable, dignified housing for ALL! (Maybe without the daily prayers.) Can you imagine a banker doing something like this today?
The photos in the father-daughter collaboration are gorgeous. And at the same time I can’t help remembering my discomfort at Sally Mann’s descriptions of her collaborations with her son in Hold Still. I never felt he could fully consent to her & it seemed somewhat narcissistic. I worried that in her efforts to make the art, she forgot the child.
Yeah Kristina, Sally Mann’s work can be problematic on that front.
