Tawny Chatmon’s work is breathtaking — thank you for the introduction. I also love the murals and installations going up at LaGuardia. One of the most memorable art exhibits of my life was in the United terminal at SFO, quelle surprise. Finally, thanks also for the list of black-owned restaurants!
Great roundup. Love Tawny Chatmon’s work.
Hi Kim,
thanks for the links.
Is there a way to by-pass the paywall on the Business Insider site?(Bon Appetit article)
Here’s what the article is about https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/skbaer/bon-appetit-apology-racism-brownface
If you have Pocket, you can add it to yours, then read it via the app.
Thank you, Kim, for rounding up these great resources.
I got a lot out of the two most recent podcast episodes of Everything is Fine. Thank you, Kim!
Tawny’s work is absolutely breathtaking! Quarantine Sweatpants – hits a little close to home. Lol
Speaking of the Bon Appetit hubbub, I saw that recent Everything is Fine guest, Jane Larkworthy, got in trouble for it as well. She did apologize for it after.
I don’t subscribe to Business Insider, so I can’t access that Bon Appetit article, alas!
You can read about the editor and his wife’s Halloween costume. It was a while ago but even then that was def not ok. Weird and gross. As well as the toxic culture at that publication. Surprise surprise https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/skbaer/bon-appetit-apology-racism-brownface
It was 2013 but he loved the racist picture so much HE KEPT IT ON HIS DESK. Also, my understanding is that there is even more to his departure. The racism was the tip of the iceberg.
Jk it wasn’t a while ago it was 2013. And yes jane larkworthy posted a comment saying how great the costumes were. She’s been suspended from her job as far as I know
That wasn’t the worst part of the comment. She said “This was so dead on, I was so afraid of you two that night!!!!”. I don’t know, if it would’ve caused as much concern, if she had just said the costumes were great.
An awesome list!
