  • Sorry for my absence this week, everyone—I’m finally feeling better, and ought to be back up to speed next week, so thanks for your patience. Also, please do enjoy this gorgeous piece by Mickalene Thomas, which is part of “Resting Our Eyes,” an exhibit featuring ten Black artists, at ICA San Francisco. (The Cut)
  • The winners of this ocean art photography contest are rather trippy.
  • I loved seeing items from Andre Leon Talley’s upcoming estate auction (Vogue)
  • Check out this witty and smart new book about apologies, co-written by my former Sassy co-worker—and current GOACA reader—Marjorie Ingall. (Amazon)
  • A juicy-as-you-please portrait of Virginia Woolf’s muse, Vita Sackville-West. (Messy Nessy Chic)
  • All of the movies worth seeing at the upcoming Sundance festival. (Town & Country)
  • Do listen to Everything is Fine if you haven’t already this week. (Apple Podcasts)
  • I have a bit of a soft crush on Seth Rogen, so I enjoyed this piece about his red carpet evolution. (Go Fug Yourself)
  • Every Noah Baumbach film, ranked. (Vulture)
  • And finally, a smart take on Madonna at 64, on the occasion of the announcement of her Greatest Hits tour. (NY Times; this is a gifted link)

Very glad to hear you’re feeling better! I love the Seth Rogen red carpet evolution and also have a soft crush (great phrase) on him.

Have had a soft crush on Seth Rogen too! He’s getting a bit of a silver-fox thing.

Good news that you’re feeling better. As a PSA, I went on a girls weekend with 8 other women last week. 6 came back with Covid, two are fine (including me), and one didn’t report, so I assume she’s fine too. One woman’s 75 y.o. husband caught Covid from her. In retrospect we should have tested beforehand; it didn’t even cross my mind. Love the links, especially the ALT items. One of his kimonos would be stunning in a glass case on the wall.

So glad to hear you are feeling better! Looking forward to the links. Last night it popped up on my phone that David Crosby had passed away. I believe I’m older than most of you so what may be true for me is probably not true for most of you––Crosby, Stills and Nash (and later) Young––are high on my all time favorites list. All these decades later I still think their music is excellent. I know they consumed a lot of drugs, screwed a lot of women and weren’t the best men and I don’t excuse that behavior at all, but their music captured an era for me and for that I will always be grateful.

I heard the news last night. I was in shock, although I do not know why. I guess I was used to our rock idols dying young, excluding Charlie, Mick and Keith. For some reason his passing really depressed me. He and the rest of CSN&Y were background to my semi rebellious youth.

I’m 48, but I’ve loved David Crosby since high school and always said his death would be the one musician’s death that I’d seriously mourn. In fact, my friend from high school who I haven’t been in touch with in 25 years reached out to me when she heard the news, which was the nicest thing! He’s a legend and his lifestyle was crazy but such an adventure. If you haven’t read his autobiography Long Time Gone I highly recommend it. Graham Nash’s is great, too.
