Winter whites are best when they’re not all white

14

Full-on white from head to toe white feels a little Snow Queen to me; I love this hue in winter, but prefer to mix things up with light grays, beiges, and taupes. I’m showing a mix of all those colors with a bunch of white pieces here, starting with this glorious fuzzy Lauren Manoogian sweater, which I am coveting hard.

I’ve been looking for a good white denim jumpsuit, and this one from Lee might be the winner, though I quite like this one too.

Some high-waisted cropped wide-leg trousers that look right on trend and very wearable too.

And here’s a pair of mid rise jeans that aren’t too tight, which is how I like white jeans to be. I also like winter white jeans (and, come to think of it, all winter white clothing, period) that are off-white, or almost white—I just think that’s cooler looking, and much more flattering than full-on glaring optic white.

A cool camel coat with a white sweater and jeans underneath is a good look.

I’m pretty crazy for this wool utility jacket: so spiff and designer-y looking, but it’s from & Other Stories.

Here are some wide-leg jeans for those brave enough to revisit the aughts; if that’s not so much your thing, try these classic  (but clearly updated)Levi’s 501s.

I like a roomy sweater if I’m going for a winter white look, and this one is pretty good: nice and cozy-looking.

Off-white chinos with a nice cropped cut—the better to show off your boots.

And here’s a well-priced alpaca and wool blend sweater that just looks so excellently huggy.

Pull-on pants are so easy, and this pair is really nice and crisp.

I almost didn’t include this skirt because it’s not purely white, but I think the splatter print is so nice and graphic.

I love the subtle hits of red and blue on this marled knit sweater.

And here’s a very cozy-looking oversized hoodie.

A well-priced fleece coat that would make a winter white look very easy to pull off.

I wish I looked like something other than death itself in taupe, because I really like this nifty puffer.

Zara, I worked in a bridal salon. You are not limited to items labeled “mother-of-the-bride.” (I know you already know that, but keep saying it to yourself). Shop for a beautiful dress (a sundress? a shift?) that you’d wear to someone else’s daughter’s June garden wedding. Maybe kick it up a couple notches with fabulous shoes (wedges? block heels? flats? spectacular sandals?) and accessories. You DO NOT have to wear a stuffy, structured, sequined sheath-with-shrug. You are already the mother of the bride. You do not have to wear the uniform.

I forgot to mention that my pink Herschel computer accommodating backpack arrived yesterday and it is AWESOME. Highly recommend. Fits my 15″ MacBook pro snuggly, but is still easy to remove and loads of space for essentials. Perfect for flying because it is still “thin” enough to fit under the seat-in-front-of-you. Soooo delighted!!

The color of the adorable Need Supply puffer looks much warmer and prettier on my iPad than on my computer – less gray, more brown. And it also comes in a lovely light blue. I want it, but there’s no room in any of my closets. Aaarrrgh. Love it when a puffer costs less than a sweater.

I love my white jeans all winter long – especially with my Birkie Boston suede clogs or a tan suede ankle bootie. (Are you and Andrea playing mind games with us? 😉) That Lauren Manoogian sweater is PERFECT. Oh, I saw the Lee jumpsuit at Henry Lehr In EH yesterday and it’s good! (I don’t remember if they had white)

This is really timely, I cannot find a pair of off white jeans anywhere to wear with my off white tops, I love that look in winter.

I love a white jean that isn’t “optic white.” Those Need Supply jeans are spot on and might have to be ordered.

Ok, I finally surrendered to the collective brilliance of Ms. France and the commentariat and purchased four (on-sale) items from Nili Lotan. I am unreasonably excited and even got two-day shipping because….YAY! (Admittedly, three of the items are hoodies so I didn’t stray that far from my comfort zone.)

I bought 2 on sale! A black billowy blouse and army green East Hampton pants. Can’t wait to wear them. I really really want the sweat pants too, but have spent enough during these sales…

Is anyone else having fit issues with high rise? Still can’t find a pair that seems to fit correctly.

Kim, I tried sending you a note via your contact page, but it didn’t go through. Can you suggest mother of the bride outfits? My daughter is having an afternoon wedding in June; very hipster chic. Have you looked at “mother of the bride” outfits? Their awful, dowdy with sequins & lace. Help please.

Zara, I am not Kim, but I replied to your post. Somehow I messed up and posted it as a comment, so look up-stream. 🙂
