Top 5 of the week: The Adidas/Marimekko collab

18

There have been a lot of intriguing-but-flawed collaborations lately: luggage brand Tumi with Missoni, which is gorgeous but pricey; Puma and Liberty of London, which is cute but a little loud for my taste; and Target and Nili Lotan, Rachel Comey, and others, which was fantastic but sold out seemingly in minutes. The only one I’m really loving is Adidas’s partnership with Marimekko, which is cute and fun but not overpowering. I think this hoodie is just golden, literally and figuratively.

How fun: Stan Smiths with a bold Marimekko flower. I don’t usually like sneakers that aren’t solid-colored, but these are just a delight.

A decidedly non-workaday gym bag that could double as a weekender.

I really like the gold stripe details on this puffer, and while the front-and-center Adidas logo is not so much my thing, it’s also not bugging me.

Just a sweet little sports bra that looks pretty comfy.

I move slowly in the mornings but ordered that hoodie – which I have zero need for – really fast!

I love that hoodie, but have a white cat, so cannot purchase. How great, though.

Kim, thanks for this post. Besides the clothes being cool, these designs avoid the neon pastels that make so many exercise clothes undesirable. I don’t usually shop in a hurry, but I jumped on this.

I picked up a gym top from this collection – in the same pattern as the bag you showed. It is very cute but the fabric does not feel great – too plasticene for my liking and a bit too cropped. But so cute!

I don’t even bother with the Target collabs anymore…

Agreed about the Target collabs, although I had to check out this one. I got the Nili jeans, bag and striped shirt, the rest all felt so cheap it was just sad.

That black sweatshirt is kind of amazing! I walked into an adidas shop and went a bit wild with this collab – bought these trainers (https://www.adidas.com/us/marimekko-nmd_r1-shoes/H00655.html) and this light windbreaker which gets me stopped on the street regularly because it’s kind of awesome (https://www.lyst.com/en-ca/clothing/adidas-marimekko-woven-track-jacket-2/). I am sort of obsessed with bright pink – just mainly wear that, black, white, grey, and denim shades.

Popping back in to say that the hoodie arrived today and I’ve a feeling it is going to be in heavy rotation. It is the perfect weight and superbly oversized.

Hi Kim! I love your bog and podcast. I wonder if you’d be interested in doing a post on travel outfits. I’m always looking for a chic outfit that’s also comfortable for a long haul – that adidas sweatshirt looks like a damn fine start. This one is gorgeous but pricey! https://www.theflairindex.com/style/easy-travel-outfit/

I bought the black jeans and the BIG bag – expected them to go back but am happy enough with them that I’ll probably keep them.

The puma x liberty doesn’t seem loud to me. The crossbody bag is very cute. Not sure I need one though. If I had money to burn, I’d be thinking about that kimono. It looks reversible! I am with melsybelsy on the bright colors, though with a poor record for actually leaving the house in them.

I acquired a pair of sneakers from this collab. However, I’ve not worn them yet, which means I wasted money on yet another thing I won’t/don’t wear. (SIGH)

This is off topic, Kim, but would you have any interest in doing a post on what to wear for a date or other festive outing? Most of the things I have been buying lately are very, ahem, comfortable, given that my office is closed until next year at least. I’m really craving something pretty and a little bit sexy for a nice evening out, and nothing I own is doing it for me now. I wore nice dresses all summer but the transition has me thrown. Not feeling super splurgey since it may need to be crammed under a heavy coat for outdoor dining (though fingers crossed). Thanks for listening, and no worries if this prompt does nothing for you.

yes dressing for out door dining is hard. festive and warm is not usually warm. But I did just buy the black puffer in post, maybe that will work

This is *such* a tough one, Kate. I’ll give it some thought. Meanwhile, I think maybe one of these portable heaters is the answer: https://rstyle.me/+5eByOFDf-v4j3Fs6hGvL3A

Love it! I just meant whatever I may pick may still end up being something that just makes me feel good and doesn’t get seen much. But so far I’m still doing a bit of indoor dining.
