As a brand, Vince is a little unpredictable. Sometimes, I feel like they churn out unspectacular-but-well-executed basics, nothing to get too excited about and definitely not worth the cash. But other times—like this season—they really hit their mark, and offer modern-looking classic pieces that somehow manage to get it exactly right. This top has the kind of print that is good for people who are mostly afraid of them.
This pleated shell could be dressed way, way up—or, conversely, worn with jeans.
I’m a sucker for a drawstring sleeve: so excellently 70s.
A pullover that I could see taking on vacation: you could throw it on over your swimsuit at the beach, then wear it to dinner.
I like the tiny bead detail on this flutter-sleeve top.
A perfectly unadorned poet blouse.
A nice and crisp tunic for when you want to look especially put-together.
A great, graphic floral print on a silk button-down—so perfect.
This shirt is fabricated with a combination of cotton and silk, and I think it is probably the softest thing ever and has really nice drape.
I have several Vince blouses and LOVE them. Even though I don’t wear sleeveless anything anymore that pleated shell is OUT-EFFING-STANDING. Also madly in love with the silk/cotton blouse that is so, so perfect.
I also love Vince. And they are working to up their manufacturing transparency.
I am waiting for the striped number to get marked down. But I am also troubled by the fact that I can’t decide between the red stripe or the blue…
And the pleated shell…my, my.
Vince also makes great denim for those who are tired of super skinny jeans with too much stretch. I just bought the straight leg capri jeans in white and in dark gray and I LOVE them. Also love the look of Vince’s tops but so far cannot pull them off. Really billowy tops are not my friend even though I want them to be. I do better with Madewell’s or Isabel Marant Etoile’s versions.
I can’t do billowing either. I like it on other people though.
So, here’s my problem with loose blouses like these, and why I never buy them. The minute you put any kind of purse over your shoulder, even the teeny-tiniest one, the whole look just goes to hell in a handbasket. Being someone who just hates to carry things in my hands, I have never figured out how to square this circle. Is there a workaround I haven’t thought of?
I doubt if I would think it looked as bad as all that if I saw it, but … in the spirit of (actually I fergit what it’s called? hive minding? b.s.ing? … there’s a term …) would any of these help: longer straps? really small bag, tucked in armpit? or a crossbody? or a fannypack? (they make snooty ones now!!)(I j’adore the word snooty!!!!)(and I adore mis-using French, although I totally dig Fr culture…)
As they say, those who cannot billow, still like to talk about it. And maybe even imagine being the kind of person who could billow.
When Vince gets it right, they are spot on. I tend to reach for the Vince pieces in my closet over and over. That floral shirt….!
I have gotten a ton of Vince at TJ Maxx Runway for half the price.
Same – and I’ve also been lucky in that I’ve picked up a few carefully chosen resale pieces.
Nordstrom Rack is a great source, too. I have a pair of black moto zip Vince jeans that I will wear until they disintegrate, about $80 at NR.
I am a huge Vince fan. Adding a pair of Vince shoes I’m loving (in black):

I have quickly accumulated several pairs of chunky sandals (I really don’t like a diminutive shoe, and I learned that from you – thank you!!).
drawstring sleeve!
I have the silk/cotton one in white and a grey-blue. They are very drapey and soft…so perfect-casual!
Ditto on loving vince overall! Nordstrom Rack and LastCall usually have some discounts but the major dept stores will run sales on the current season merch fairly regularly also
They are having a double sale right now on their site — 25% off items already on sale. LOVE.
I personally love the whole drapey/billowy aesthetic Vince has had going on for a while now. It’s especially wonderful in the hot humid summers on the east coast. I am really coveting that split neck tunic as it heads into the high 80s – you can’t beat something like that for looking like you tried without making a huge effort!
I was into the white, Flutter Sleeve Top until I saw the huge armhole. Why do clothing designers allow this? It will show so much side bra….There are work arounds but what a bother. Too bad.
Ooooo, I am lusting after that striped popover shirt so hard! And I am, while doing it, wearing an absolutely ancient CALIFORNIA IS FOR LOVERS t-shirt purchased at a thrift store with my long-deceased best best friend from undergrad after she read a Sassy article about thrifting up tiny vintage printed t-shirts and recutting the neckline on them. I was thinking of her and of you with such love when I pulled it out this morning! It got relegated to the painting clothes bin a longggg while ago, but has survived the hard cull of my possessions that took place when we moved onto our sailboat. Thanks for being such a longtime force for fun and goodness, dear Kim!
I’m spending the summer in a city that is way more hot and humid than I’m used to, and I’m having to rethink my entire way of dressing, including my aversion to sleeveless, shorts, and air conditioning. Which is why I’ve had the Vince flutter sleeve beaded top in my cart for weeks now. It looks so cool, in more ways than one.
