I am such a fan of this preppy/tomboyish brand. It’s well-priced—not fast-fashion cheap, but very reasonable—and most everything comes in more than a few colors. Like this army pant, which I’m tempted to go for in this green as well as black.
I have seen a few versions of this cropped puffer around lately, but this is my favorite—it’s kind of cut like a shirt, and I like the big front pockets.
A cute corduroy jumpsuit that would be equally good belted as unbelted.
And speaking of corduroy, I think this blazer is so excellently old school, and the light brown hue is just exactly right.
The wee front pocket on this sweatshirt makes it standout, and just a little more polished than your typical sweatshirt.
This sneaker is from a company called Novesta, and I like it because it resembles a Chuck Taylor, but without all of the annoying branding.
A cotton cardigan with an adorably Chanel-ish vibe. At the same time, it looks so damn comfy.
I want the pants shown with the cardigan. They have an adjustable waist so you can wear them high or low. How brilliant is that.
I’ve had the sage version of that sweatshirt in my cart for a few days, namely because I can’t decide between that one and this more expensive version: https://www.alexmill.com/products/alex-mill-limited-run-natural-dye-sweatshirt-in-botanical-citron
I debated the sweater for awhile (Andrea posted it, too!) but decided it was just a tick too “look, lots of buttons” for me.
*mainly, not “namely” – ugh. It’s early.
Ooo! The sweatshirt in the bug-colored Rose is doing it for me.
I really like Alex Mill’s quality. I have a relaxed sweatshirt, with a button-hole in the chest pocket, and wear it all the time. Probably one of the most comfortable sweatshirts that I’ve owned. And I have a couple rosettes that I can button and wear on the pocket.
I was curious about the look of those pants – they appear to be dropped crotch but when I read the website they were described on the model as being size 2 “worn low on the hips”. So I am assuming they have a regular crotch. Which is a plus for me – I will never understand the appeal of a dropped crotch pant, which gives the look of a weirdly elongated torso and stumpy legs.
And it’s especially not a look for those of us who already have a long torso, and whose hips need no artificial enhancement…kind of a jeans-with-too-much-Lycra-at-the-end-of-the-day effect. Yikes!
I love those pants! I think the green and the black.
I know this is awfully unfair, but a light brown corduroy blazer will forever conjure up an image of Billy Joel in my mind. I just can’t.
Those pants are adorable! And their default size range runs all the way up to 14-16?! Yay! It looks like the 16/XXL sizes are sold out in virtually every style, so ladies who wear the average size for American women will have to join a waitlist to actually get anything. Kind of makes you wonder if they ever actually manufactured the largest sizes or are accumulating a waitlist before they put in the production order…. Is that something clothing companies do? And anyone wearing an above-average size (by definition, that’s half of them) are still SOL :(. But it’s a start …
I’ve noticed and wondered the same thing, Ellie.
Just wondering if they “vanity” size at all.
They’re French, so I would doubt that they vanity size, Liz.
Who’s French? Alex Mill? But the brand’s founders are ex-J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler’s son Alex and ex-J.Crew designer Somsack Sikhounmuong.
Forgive me, I was spaced out on too little sleep when I wrote that and was thinking of another post.
I think they operate via “small batches” no matter what size.
Curious: Have people been pleased with their Alex Mill purchases? I like what I see – but after ordering a bunch of pieces when it first went online, I was disappointed by the quality and fit, and sent everything back. Should I give it another try? Did anyone else find the early merch not so great?
Yes JB, my first order (2 or so years ago?) was for a pair of pants and a long sleeved t-shirt. Both went back due to fit issues and quality-ish problems –the fabric of the pants, while nice, was too stiff for the cut making them awkward to walk about it. I tried again last year with a sweater and shirt and love both.
That corduroy blazer is really tempting.
I finally succumbed to temptation and got their standard jumpsuit. It arrived a few days ago and I love it! I’ve been dubious about coverall type jumpsuits but am now a soldier fan.
*solid fan. dang autocorrect!
I am really tempted with that blazer too! Seems like a cheaper version of the Emerson Fry which I am coveting. Kim, can we have a post on blazers that have bit of a casual vibe? Something that doesn’t look out of place Sunday morning at the Farmers Market.
I’ve actually been thinking of doing just such a post, Kay.
Question – is there or could you set up a facebook page for your followers? It would be great to be able to share finds/ask questions/offer support etc. For example…I am trying to find the PERFECT chambray shirt…JCrew’s Everyday Chambray is almost “it” but I need an 18 Tall and they are not restocking that size…for whatever reason the regular is too short for i.e. wearing outside and having the shirt tails show under a blazer or sweater and I am only 5’5.
Thanks either way. I LOVE your blog and podcast…new posts and shows make me very happy.
