I don’t pay too much attention to trends—even when I edited Lucky, I didn’t, believe it or not (except maybe a little at the beginning, when I made some highly expensive and regrettable purchases)—but I have not been able to ignore the mass movement to high-waisted jeans, and have felt, in my lower-waisted ones, very 2008. It has been a struggle to find a brand that works for me: I only ever buy jeans online because I find the experience of trying them on in stores to be soul-depleting, and I have ordered and returned more pairs than I care to admit. But at last, I have settled on Levi’s, which is so lovely, as most pairs cost under $100, and often a lot less on their website. I just picked up this super-skinny pair and they fit like a dream.
I’m glad you found a pair that work for you!
I am skipping this altogether- every pair I’ve tried on hits in a bad spot, or are too damn uncomfortable. I know that denim leggings get a bad rap, but I like they way they feel. I never tuck in shirts anyway- haven’t since high school, again far too uncomfortable. I’m 56. I’m far too old to be that uncomfortable for a minute, much less a day.
I never thought I’d buy high-waisted jeans, but now I have three, all from Everlane. I surprisingly find them more comfortable than some low-rise jeans! I thought I’d hate them, but they might be my favorites. I love that i don’t have to worry about exposing my butt crack or my shirt coming un-tucked. I think I’ll stick to mid to high rise denim from now on and never go back to low-rise. That said, I did said “never” about high-rise denim, too, so who knows?
I ordered the black straight cropped Levi’s you posted about a month ago.
I love them! I’m guessing they’re more forgiving than the skinnies though.
Which I need honestly..
I’m also a big fan of the Levi’s wedge cropped jeans!
Those are fantastic. I now have three pairs.
J Crew 9″ rise toothpick jeans are great.
Yes, the J Crew ones are my favorite every day jeans. The “toothpick” part scared me, because my legs are thick, but they have good stretch and are flattering and comfortable.
For some reason, even though I have a low rise (which I used to think meant I was short-waisted till I figured it out) the high raise jeans from Universal Standard have been great! I am all about the higher rise these days and have been looking for alternatives (really want some high rise cords)
I don’t remember the cropped black Levi’s that Kim had talked about! Can’t seem to find them on the site. What style were they?
Skinnies look the best on me but I’m in the market for something a little less form-fitting. But definitely not too baggy!
Women around here are definitely digging the cropped straight leg.
Levi’s 724 straight crop jeans in cassette black!
Thank you so much, Caroline!
Possibly in the minority here but as someone who needs to a buy the tall inseam, high waisted jeans come up to my bra! so they are unwearable for me.
I am not doing high waisted anything again. I have a very short torso and high waisted hits me just under the boobs. No thanks!
Our GOACA synergy is working again, Kim! I haven’t purchased from Levi’s in AGES, but I decided I wanted to experience the perfect peach-butt and the only way to do that is with Levi’s (and a very odd Instagram pose with your ass shoved to one side while your hips go in the other direction). I’m happy to say, it works!
Am I the only one wondering about (and bothered by) the strange accents on the t-shirt?
I have a small waist and large bust and nothing makes me feel more awkward than high-waisted pants.
Hear ya! Mid rise with a JCrew tuck is so much more flattering on our body shapes.
Can’t do high rise – I have a short torso. I just was in the Gap and found their real straight mid-rise jeans in black to be pretty fabulous (and a total bargain)! So relieved there are some non-high rise options.
Don’t high rise jeans just highlight a tummy?
I’m a slender 55 year old who has had a kid; my hormonal tummy is the bane of my existence, and high rise jeans i think might accentuate it!!
What do you guys think?
Absolutely. I am almost 62 yrs old and until about 9 months ago I was a size 7/8. I have been wearing American Eagle low rise almost exclusively (in long) flared, for the past 4 yrs or so. I am only 5’4″ but always, always wear heels. Now, due to lifestyle change, I have gained 25 lbs. Since I needed to get new jeans, I decided to try high waisted. OMG. I look like I am pregnant and have an instant gut ache as soon as I put them on!!! Now I love wide leg jeans but can’t find any that AREN’T high waisted. Suggestions?I also don’t understand how Mom Jeans are supposed to fit. I picked up a pair in 12 and they look like I wore them thru my ninth month of pregnancy. I think a ten might fit better, but are they supposed to be a loose fit? Straight? Curve? Help. Don’t care what the style is, going back to comfort and my low rise.
AYR hi rise skinny in Jaguar Legs literally best thing ever. Has to be that color, other fabrics not as perfect. https://www.ayr.com/products/hi-rise-skinny#8666877853806
As a 5’2″ person with a low rise and a long waist, pretty much every pair of high waisted jeans I’ve purchased have not worked for me. But the Levi’s Mile High totally works! The hit me in my natural waist, have a good amount of stretch (maybe too much… could maybe order a size down). These are a winner. (I also like the 9″ skinny rise at Madewell, because they come in petite length. No hemming)
