Bags to carry to parties

Clare V bag

I have way too many bags in my life (I just did a major purge and still have too many). But I possess nothing in the way of a fun, not-too-big (but not inconveniently small) bag to carry to parties, I think because of my aversion to little bags. But I am game to find one, and believe that this is the kind of  item you can have a little fun with by, say, going for metallics or embroidery or a touch of fluff. I like the idea of one that’s on the loud side, which is why this bright orange shearling from Clare V appeals.

I have wanted this bag for a while now: the shape and the color are both absolutely perfect.

Here’s a cute (and not small) leopard clutch.

This wristlet is such a cool and also sophisticated option. (And here it is in silver metallic.)

The product description says this is velvet, but it looks much furrier—and is so adorable.

Here’s something that’s furrier still.

The chevron print here makes this choice a standout, as does the chain strap.

Oh, this just struck me as pretty sweet, what with the flowers and stars.

A gold metallic evening bag is a classic—and it can not be said enough: metallics are neutrals. This would go with everything.

And finally: this is just a hoot.

Lovely! Related question: In your first photo of the red Clare V clutch, are the shoes from The Office of Angela Scott? If not, who makes them? I love them! Thanks so much!

I agree, the boots are fabulous! I’d also like to know who makes them.

Kate Spade made them. You can always go to “Shop the Look” on Shopbop to see the items a piece is styled with.

Sadly the link they send us to are not the same boots. Silver, but different style. I love the ones they show with the great Clare V clutch. All great bag suggestions, Kim!

What is this “too many bags” of which you speak? I didn’t know there was such a thing!

(Although I’m rather sure I”m guilty of it.)

I have a large collection (possibly too large) of tiny evening bags, many vintage, but I must admit, NONE of them are furry!

Such a timely post as I have a metallic clutch that is beginning to show age (something I was horrified by until I realized the clutch is probably 10-11 years old and well used!!).

All of these clutches you found appeal to me. Oh dear…

Oh the pom pom one! I have a craft book, circa 75, and the very last item in there is a rainbow pom pom bath mat. (I don’t know.) But I’ve always looked at it longingly, and still seriously consider making it. The bag makes me just as happy. That said, I am rather interested in that white fluffy one!

I’ve quit looking for a “party in a clutch” since I found my Clare V. Foldover leopard clutch. It’s perfect in any situation!

Those furry ones are adorable, yet I fear too trendy for me. Longevity is my motto.

also got a gucci tian pouch ( chinoiserie print) – it also makes every outfit.

there’s also a little gucci embroidered dragon bag right now I want…

(I’m not a gucci label whore, but Lalo is KILLING it right now)

Great selection! If you’re looking for a furry mini bag, please check out my friend Lynn Tallerico’s “Harriet” bag. I have the white, which I use a ton, and the Wine which I love! Been thinking about the Black and Grey as well…
All of her bags are great – also love the Camo “Izzi” tote!

Here’s a question: what do others do with the stuff they purge? Ebay? Goodwill? Does it depend on how much you initially paid and/or how much you might get for it?

What a great topic for a post!

I think it does depend on how much was spent…

Fascinating for us to consider how we part with our sartorial stuff.

I would love a discussion of this as well, especially as I am doing a pre-Christmas purge with my family (you can imagine how excited the children are).
We have a lovely Hospice Shop in our town that I bring all my good quality, still wearable items to. They recently told me to bring in the old t-shirts and stained kids clothes as well because they donate them to a “rag company.” Does anyone know anything about this?

I highly recommend the bags at soukiemodern.com. They are made from Morocco textiles and are gorgeous and unique.
