Here is one item I think it’s always a good idea to invest in, because it is so easy to feel shlumpy in drab winter outerwear, and a nice, snappy coat makes you instead positively exude chic. I have more coats than I know what to do with, but was sorely tempted by a lot of these, starting with this one, which has such excellent lapels.
From APC: a nice herringbone tweed that’d look great with jeans or more dressed up.
This is Rachel Comey and not cheap, but I really wanted to include a couple of colorful options and they were in short supply. Also, it’s got a really appealingly nubby texture.
Nothing cozier than a hooded faux fur coat.
The stripe at the hem here adds just the right amount of interest.
A classic shape, and a perfect tomato red.
A little on the crazy side, but good crazy, I think.
This is alpaca, which always looks so great, and I love the idea of a creamy white coat.
The oversized lapels here are so damn chic.
I had to include a leopard choice, of course.
I just think this duffle coat is the most stylish thing ever.
I like the subtle military look here.
Such a perfect, blazing autumnal color, and I really like the texture.
The ribbed, knit cuff is what makes this faux fur standout.
Just a really good houndstooth.
Why not something sweet and peachy pink?
Just as elegant as the day is long.
It’s going to hit 80 degrees today in Austin so I’m only dreaming about the coats. Also, being a shorty-short––most of these would, on me, hit the floor! However, if I lived in a reasonable climate and had a normal height body I would go for the Mango color block, the Otto de Ame and the Elizabeth and James. Knocking it out of the park, Kim.
I did order a jacket from the Mango girls department the other day (should arrive shortly) that was so similar to one you showed a few weeks ago I couldn’t help myself. https://shop.mango.com/us/girl/jackets/leopard-faux-fur-jacket_13095701.html?c=08&n=1&s=prendas_kidsA.familia;203
We just had our first snow yesterday… I built a fire in our wood stove, spent the day cooking, and made hot apple cider with cloves. Welcome winter!
That sounds SO appealing, Heather!
I wish that I li could justify quite a few of the coats. But I relocated to SoCal a couple of years ago, and the weather isn’t cool enough. Maybe after living here longer, I’ll give in to the yearly urge to buy a new coat. I see plenty of women in winter coats and boots here even though I personally don’t think that it’s cool enough.
You’ll acclimate, Susan! I am a SoCal native and my husband, who’s from Ireland, used to laugh at what I considered sweater weather. Now he’s shivering right along with me when it falls below 60 degrees.
Yes…
California weather. Hard to even know now! Buy a coat…a thinnish light wool coat…you’ll feel like it’s winter!!!
I’m a coat lover, too, Kim. I sometimes think I’ve gone overboard when I realize the entire coat closet is devoted to MY outerwear! My favorites are: The camel with the black stripe at the hem, the houndstooth Mango, and the perfect “Masculin/Feminin” one by Theory at the end. Fantastic!
Kim, any chance you’ve come across a coat with an A-line/full skirt in your travels? I have been hunting for one for YEARS, and am thinking I’ll need to resort to getting one made!
