Oooooh, definitely got pulled into a few purchases. Winners: Wander Beauty foundation stick (omg, that model is stunning, who wouldn’t purchase it?); Mejuri gold earrings (so, so pretty). Big fat DUD, was the Necklet. That thing is so stinking hard to use, and my necklaces got far more tangled with that damn thing.
I’ve been curious about the Necklet. Sorry it sucks!
A shop that I bought something at online called Revolve. I bought a pair of carpenter pants by Splendid in a really soft cotton. They didn’t have my size so I ordered up and now my daughter wears them as sweatpants. Oopps.
iRi shoes — weird looking but really comfy and very functional
Now – why does that exercise mirror keep showing up all my feeds??
I’ve been wondering about iRi shoes. They look comfy, but are they breathable since they’re made of neoprene?
I can’t say at this point. I’ve only worn them a few times for several hours and with socks – its a bit cool this week. But really easy to walk around in. I’ll know better when I where them to travel in…
Uniqlo’s HeatTech collection. I have thin California blood and East Coast winters leave me constantly, miserably cold. I decided to try a pair of leggings to wear under jeans and a long-sleeved shirt for layering. A week later, I ordered 2 more pairs of leggings and another shirt.
I love heattech!
I ordered from Noracora. Never again! Cheap materials. Bad workmanship. Over a month delay in getting the package. I still get their emails and social media ads, and their stuff still looks cute in the photos. But never, never, never, never never.
Ugh, those tempting shops with nonsense names. If the name sounds like a random combo of vowels and consonants, I usually google the name + complaints to see if it’s a overseas scam factory. Sorry that happened to you!
I see things that intrigue me, but I forget the instant I click away. I haven’t felt tempted to purchase anything via social media in years, even from brands I know. I’d rather check them out in person first. Or I find something similar in person.
I actually bought Rothy flats because they are made out of plastic bottles and are machine washable. Super comfortable, durable, lightweight and can fold up easily to carry as a spare set of flats when you’re in heels.
I bought the Rothys as well, but I don’t like them, except for as emergency travel flats. They don’t want to stay on, and they make my feet sweat like whoa. They are kind of just like wearing soda bottles on your feet. I have friends that have eight or nine pairs-! For washable squooshy travel shoes, Allbirds or Treebirds are also made sustainably, are antibacterial, but they breathe. And I have also gotten suckered in to the Fuschia shoes – my hand embroidered ones get tons of compliments.
Monogram t shirts have been tempting me as has Oscalito lingerie.
Not really a social media ad, but I read on Metafilter about a heated cat bed, which I then bought from Chewy, and it is now sitting here next to me. The cat uses it and he seems happy, I sort of wish they made them for people.
Be really careful with those. Do not use unattended. One of my local shops, a pet store actually, was fundraising for funds for vet bill to treat a dog that was burned by one when cable shorted and started a fire.
Wildfang. Bought a jumpsuit (!) after calling them to see if they had last season’s navy blue in my size (they did!). I love it. (Plus it was on sale!)
Wildfang is legit, though! they even have brick-and-mortar shops. and i love their stuff too.
This is the best post! Jenni Kayne follows me around constantly and I too almost ordered those mules but the price point is crazy! I ordered a Saturday Morning sweater but returned it, cheap looking. I was very tempted last night by some weirdo brand called “daccla.fashion” but the website doesn’t even exist.
Me too!! Their sweaters look amazing, but I’m scared to buy one…anyone?
Don’t buy anything from daccla. I ordered three items on December 11 – they never shipped, even though they were supposed to arrive in 10-15 days. I emailed several times to ask when the order would ship, and they asked me to wait “a few more days”. When I had waited long enough and wanted to cancel, they charged me 10% (after emailing 3 times – they kept asking me to wait longer).
I did the same… finally got 2 items that were the right color but nothing else was right! Cheap crap that I will never wear! They did partially refund me, but still not enough! Worst choice I made with online shopping!!!
Have any of you bought readers from an IG ad? Any opinions on brands? Thx!
I like Peepers. Have several pairs all around the house, office, car, etc.
CADDIS, I get so many compliments
J Crew gets me every time and Land’s End too. On the Jenni Kaye booties which I also saw in an ad and clicked, for a girl on a budget, my Minnetonka’s cost much less and look just as good though!
https://www.minnetonkamoccasin.com/women/styles/boots/double-fringe-tramper-boot. Love your posts thanks for keeping us hip!
Bombas no show/no slip socks- didn’t slip but I was very disappointed to get a hole at the toes after only 5 wears. Never had that happen before. Won’t repurchase.
I have several pairs of Bombas. A couple lasted me about two years, the rest are still fine, and Bombas sent me new ones for free. They have no seams over the toes, and they really do give socks to the homeless.
I’ve been so curious about Bombas. Thanjs for your report!
I bought two pairs of Bombas early in the summer, wear them at least once a week, and they don’t have holes yet, in case you want another opinion. The blister protection ones are the best, and they are thicker than the others. They’re the first no show socks I’ve ever had that really stay on your feet.
I’ve so far been really happy with mine!
Static nails on insta. Great packaging but very disappointing products. Tiny (sample sized??) bottles that lasted 2-3 days at most. No thank you!
Kinda fascinated by the Hickies Tie-free elastic shoe laces, but they are almost $20.00 a set…anybody try them yet?
I love hickies. I HATE shoelaces. They are right when you first use them, but they loosen up perfectly.
I bought a Carlin straight off a Facebook ad. It’s like a velvety twist-tie hair scrunchy do-dad that magically puts my hair into a neat little chignon. I loved it, wore it every other day (corresponding with my non-hair wash days) for 3 months, it effectively banished bad hair days… until it died a sudden death when the wire inside snapped. I am still in mourning. RIP Carlin.
Intrigued by your description, I visited their website, and it looks super shady — tons of misspellings, claims that their profits go to “pug rescue” (nothing against pugs, but seems very random).
Two brands I discovered last fall via IG ads that are slowly taking over my closet: M.Gemi shoes and NakedCashmere. I’m in love with both. Clean, modern styles that don’t look dated after a season, a price point that aligns with the quality, free shipping and returns and excellent customer service. Enjoy!
You know I’m not one to click on ads etc but Instagrams targeted ads get me!! Loving Necessaire unscented body wash and cream (vitamin infused)! Jenni Kayne also targets me hard but her prices vs quality are too high for me to pull the trigger.
Necessaire body wash and cream! I actually love Instagram ads and wish I could do (almost) all my shopping from them. The ones in stories disappear so fast 🙈
Oh, i just remembered that i ordered a couple of camis from Pact after seeing them on IG. I didn’t like them (think i could do better at Target), but I do quite like the underpants that I got for an extra $5.
I’m falling for a new bra and panty set by CUUP (Women of all shapes, sizes and colors looking sexy in underwear? Where do I sign-up?) And just yesterday, I spotted a fleece top advertised on goop.com by Dudley-Stephens. If Gwyneth wears it, it must be magical, right? 🙄
Copper Cow Coffee – first and only brand I bought from a targeted ad. Their portable pour-overs are very tasty although rather wasteful for home use. I’d buy more if I traveled a lot or did outdoors/camping activities. I’ll stick with my off-brand chemex 🙂
https://www.seavees.com/products/womens-baja-slip-on-platform-mulholland-rancho
These slip ons in pony, with the printed cowhide and a slight platform — love them. Fit great.
I bought these in the leopard print and love them. Platform without being bulky at all. And now that I bought these shoes, I am being served ALLLLL the shoe ads on Insta and much too much too tempted!
LOVE Seevees–have 3 pairs–got the first one thrifting, bought one at seevees and got the third on sales at my beloved shoe spot 6pm.co,
I finally caved in and got the Boy Brow as well as the Bounce serum from Glossier to try. Living both products so far, but I’m alarmed that their products are not the cleanest per EWG. I usually use very clean products, but needed to shake things up.
I follow a ton of vegan, cruelty-free and earth friendly IG accounts, so I appreciate most of the ads since they are usually small companies that I wouldn’t have discovered on my own. Here are a few of my favorites where I’m extremely pleased with the products:
1. Pawj for vegan, cruelty free Ugg style boots and slippers.
2. V-Dog dog food kibble. My dog loves it and keeps her at the perfect healthy weight. She stopped having bad breath, flatulence and hot spots since I have been feeding her this kibble.
3. Biokleen household supplies. Especially for their Bac-Out stain & odor remover. Effective for pet accidents, no lingering odors at all. Great for difficult laundry stains too. I order this by the gallon. Completely non-toxic and cruelty free.
4. Thinx period underwear. They really work well and I have cut down on my waste of all those period products.
5. Baby Teith clothing for children (and adults) which is largely inspired by music (lots of 70’s, 80’s and 90’s alternative bands). Everything is ethically produced in the US and in small batches. The quality is top notch and my daughter has the coolest clothes.
I’ve been using Biokleen laundry detergent for years. Good product.
Oh yeah I totally forgot! I also ordered some Knix panties (also leakproof) for my light period days (when I can’t bear the thought of wearing more pads or tampons). I threw in a sweatproof under tee to wear under warmer wool and cashmere sweaters in winter.
Prose custom hair oil – I didn’t like what it did for my hair, but they offered to give me a full refund with free return shipping which was pretty amazing.
Maison Miru huggie earrings – didn’t hold up as well as I’d like. Probably should splurge for solid gold next time.
Shop Poirier – demi fine plus size jewelry. Seriously so great. Wonderful quality and classic looks. If you have bigger than average fingers, you can find something cute here! I love the designer behind it too, Ashley Poirier. She’s a graphic designer too and has designed stuff like planners for Target.
The Office of Angela Scott shoes. Broke down and ordered a pair. Dammit, they are incredible and I think I am going to keep them
Ohhhhh, I want a pair of these so badly! Way beyond my pocket but wow, are they gorgeous! And yes, I found out about them from Insta ads.
Angela Scott is constantly on my feed so good to know you love them. hummm….
LOVE Zuri. I’m 5’2″ and 32DD; a Small is tight in the bust, so be aware that the cut is not loose all over. It has a definite A line shape, with the top being somewhat streamlined. Great hard-wearing fabric and great people/project.
I am 5’3″ and 36DD so this is useful information for me. Your liking Zuri is also useful information because, well…. I hope I don’t freak you out and come across as a weirdo, but I totally look forward to your comments. If I’m being honest, you are an aspirational cool person: a former opera singer who is a library trustee, carrying neato totes from Rough and Tumble. Let me stress the aspirational part: I don’t think I can just acquire your stuff and that is the sum of you. However, your sense of self and style serve as an example of someone who knows how to be herself and who likes being herself. So, if you like Zuri, then I know it’s cool.
The washable silk pajamas from Lunya, but they are so incredible that I bought two more sets. Seriously, nothing in my life feels more luxe.
I also got some bras from Third Love, and they are pretty good. Nothing spectacular but they have a broad size and skin-tone color range, which is nice.
Has anyone tried Snag tights? I’m curious.
That is not a good name for tights!
I have three pairs! All in brights. They’re totally matte and seem indestructible (I’ve washed them multiple times, one has a hard-to-see run), and I love that they offer a huge range of sizes.
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. I also like their colors and size ranges.
Not a direct answer to your question, but may I say those look inspired by LL Bean’s fabulous slippers, just with souls?!
Negative Underwear. They look great and feel great. The best underwear and bras I’ve ever had. So glad I found them! But yeah it was more like they found me on Instagram.
cuup bras except i need an even wider band than how wide they go. still, i do like the bras i got, they are just tight around
Cute boots! I have a pair of Ugg Kristin boots that are similar but only $150 on Amazon. Hated the original Uggs, but I love these. So warm and cozy, and water and stain resistant!
I’ve only ever fallen for a social media ad once, and it was for Third Love bras. They’re not nearly as spendy as the Simone Perele bras I like, although more than my Wacoal. They don’t last as long as either of those but the thing is they’re crazy comfortable, and who can argue with that? I’ll keep buying them.
I get that. I used to wear Wacoal until I realized how comfortable Natori bras are. They don’t last as long though, but sticking with comfort. The price points are similar.
A fuzzy anti-anxiety dog bed. It turned out better than expected…..
omg i get that one all the time! It seemed suspiciously cheap – it was ok though?
I have the dog bed and it’s fine. Not great. Sort of lopsided. My dog isn’t any calmer though and chews on it.
-Blueland eco friendly cleaning products that come in tablets (I bought).
-Tamara Mellon kick-ass looking minimalist boots with big treads (I gasped…too rich for my blood).
Those Pony-O ponytail holders! Also, the merino wool t-shirts–the brand name escapes me, however.
Are those Woolx tees? I get those ads because I follow a lot of alternative/inclusive hiking IG accounts. I usually look for Smartwool or Icebreaker on sale, but have been interested in Woolx.
I bought a Woolx tee. I’m big into bamboo and wool for technical and travel clothing, so I’ve got a lot of Freefly, Tasc, and Smartwool. I do like it and it was TTS and didn’t shrink or stink. Not quite the feel to the fabric of my beloved Ibex gear – but I hear that Ibex will be relaunching soon.
Are you on the Ibex mailing list? They’ve got a Facebook group (Ibex insiders) and are looking for input on styles to bring back.
I am! I asked them to bring back their merino polo shirts right away; my husband loves them for travel because they read business casual, not like tech wear, and just exactly the right weight in three seasons.
(The real reason I love Ibex best is because they somehow magically knit all their wool such that it sheds pet hair.)
I actually bought those exact Jenni Kayne boots last week because of Insta – so dangerous!! They haven’t been delivered yet but fingers crossed they live up to the pictures
Those boots! Im very happy that they don’t come in my size.
I am soooooo tempted. must resist, must resist, must resist….
Instagram really knows what i like, which is equal parts scary and great.
A forest green mini Cuyana tote was my latest purchase (and love!)
I’ve been suckered by the Jenni Kayne mules, which I ordered and returned. They were OK but definitely not worth $350+. Those booties though….
These African textile a-line dresses. Super cute prints and cut.
I’m not a dress-wearer but those sound intriguing. Do you recall the brand name?
Yes! Osidoro or something like that?
Chiming in to say that Zuri dresses fit that description — the print & shape, anyway. shopzuri.com
I eye Zuri dresses and dresses from mayafashionstore on Etsy. Kay Erikson, if you’re talking about yet another brand, please share so I can further decrease my productivity with browsing.
Yes! It is Zuri. Has anyone bought a dress? I am so tempted but just can’t bring myself to pull the trigger. Probably because I can’t decide which print.
I bought a Zuri dress and it’s held up really well. They run a bit larger than I’d have guessed. They have a shop in NYC where I tried them on.
Osei Duro! I have several and they are great. Good quality and they often have sales.
I love Osei Duro! And Odile Jacobs…
No–I scrupulously don’t even click on ads on insta even if they are for things I already know I like. But I do admit I’ve been play Words with Friends a lot and I am intrifued byt that ridiculous “Gardenscapes” game ad! I am SO SURE I would always click the right thing!
I just got an Amour Vert blazer which is going back. Looked cool in the ad in a sort of oversized, unstructured, but it’s really thin material, unlined and seems overpriced for what it is.
I like Amour Vert’s sustainability objectives and bought a cute, striped button-down short tie-sleeve top on sale from them to try. However, after 2 washes (in a delicates bag), it developed a hole in the sleeve. Too expensive for that quality!
Too bad, they have some alluring things.
I weirdly get Amour Vert catalogs – yes, the paper kind – in the mail. I have no idea why.
I don’t know where I saw it, but I was mesmerized by the Thursday Boot Company. I bought the olive pair I saw on the model, and je ne regrette rien! They are great, super-sturdy (I live in upstate NY with brutal weather, and you need serious boots). Not insulated, but that’s what boot socks are for. Also they do Afterpay so the $160 price tag didn’t hurt so much.
Been wanting check that brand out! Their boots look hella good.
Yes, I just ordered a “Brains Are the New Tits” t-shirt, and 3 coffee mugs (2 for gifts) that say “Male Tears.”
I’m a terrible sucker for my targeted ads, it’s awful.
Thrive mascara. I’m on my third tube and there’s nothing else like it.
I haven’t bought from Faherty because they seem so over priced, but I love their hippie dresses that always pop up on my Facebook feed: https://fahertybrand.com/collections/womens?_=pf&pf_pt_product_type=Women%27s%20Dresses
Also, there’s this baby white seal pillow that I came really close to buying because it was just so ridiculous looking.
Their stuff is amazing. Really well made and cute on.
I bought Birdies flats after seeing a lot of ads and press. I’ve worn them once and wish I would have returned them. The support isn’t great and the heels rub unfortunately.
Just bought some Forchics brow serum because some of us lived through the 90s and our brows never recovered. Reviews are good, but the jury is still out! I swear, Jenni Kayne must target all of us because we visit GOACA, right?
