We’ve got photographer Elinor Carucci on Everything is Fine, and we’re talking about her tender, raw, ordinary, and profound recent work, which examines the “liberating” side of hitting midlife, as well as its attendant joy and pain. It’s an interesting conversation, so do tune in on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Thought-provoking is indeed the phrase I would use for this week’s podcast. Just to frame the nudity discussed in a slightly different perspective…I am from a very conservative family and nudity was not at all part of my family dynamic, BUT it was our choice––I can remember distinctly my mother telling me at a very young age that I did not have to show my body if I didn’t want to do so. Although I think my mother’s motive was more puritanical than feminist, I have always held my body as my own to share or not. I believe my desire to keep my body private because it was mine saved me from many, what would have been, regrettable situations of the hippy-dippy-let-it-all-hang-out sixties. I’ll always be grateful to my mother for instilling in me the ownership of my body (no matter how old or bedraggled!!) and also an understanding that other people feel differently and that’s ok too. It was also a wee bit weird (not in a bad way!!) to hear a conversation that took place before pandemic lockdowns/shutdowns so there was no mention of Covid or family pods or supporting restaurants etc. etc. Or trump! When the podcast was over I felt wistful for those days of normal conversations. (sigh)
