Pachinko is a great book! You should definitely check it out. Also this makes me think I should re-read The House of Mirth.

Normally I read a ton but Quarantine has made it impossible to focus. I read cookbooks but beyond that nothing (partly bc libraries were closed until last month). This past week I finally read two books, My Dark Vanessa and All Adults Here. Currently I’m reading Zadie Smith’s latest essays, Intimations, and just pages in, I’m already telling all my friends to read it. It’s her thoughts on this weird, stressful time. I feel like in the last few years all the fiction I read could be more tightly edited. When I finish a novel, even a good one, I feel it could be 200 pages shorter, lol. Some of them just take forever to wrap up after the plot climax.

I so enjoyed this episode and appreciated the recommendations. It also sounded like she was multitasking while she was talking which made me giggle because it reminded me of how I am when I know I’ll be on the phone for awhile with my mom or particularly long-winded friends! 😀

Hi Kim: on my copy of the podcast downloaded from iTunes, there’s about 7 minutes of dead air at the end followed by 3 minutes or so of alternate takes/edited takes. Not a big deal (and kind of cool, honestly), but I thought you’d want to know!

Thank you for such a smart and lovely podcast. Lisa Lucas is a delight. Someone asked for a memoir recommendation. I would strongly recommend Amy Tan’s Where The Past Begins. It’s beautiful and a tear jerker. Along the lines of Pachinko but her Amy’s family’s real story.

Loved this episode. Could you do a “What we are reading” episode, maybe quarterly? I enjoy book suggestions.

I saw her on a panel discussion about diversity in publishing last week, and she was amazing. And she did a great Top Shelf on ITG about a year ago. Her perfume recommendations were superb. I can’t wait to listen.

Loved this episode! I already listened to it twice and wrote down several books to read.
Also Kim, I hope you’ll get to read Pachinko, it was my favorite book of the year.
