We’ve got novelist Lynn Steger Strong—author of the fantastic new book, Flight—on the show, and we’re talking about creativity after 40, as well as lots of other compelling stuff, so please do tune in, on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Audible, or wherever you get your podcasts. Also! We’ve got merch now! Exciting!
Best wishes on your engagement, Kim! If you ever decide to get married in Philadelphia (or anywhere else in PA), thanks to the Quakers, you can self-unite, meaning you just need two witnesses to sign a document. You don’t even need a celebrant. My husband and I got married over pancakes at a luncheonette in South Philly with just two witnesses. It was truly a chill way to get married. (I wore a bright Kate Spade dress with a floral print.)
Very cool. Do you need a license? What makes it legal?
Liz, you do need to sign a special self-uniting marriage license that you get from, and return to, the Register of Wills. It basically says that the two parties agree to self-unite in marriage. The bride(s) and/or groom(s) sign in and then two witnesses sign it and you return it to the Register of Wills.
Congratulations! I agree with Sarah, above: red velvet pantsuit all the way!
Congratulations on your great news, Kim! I’m so happy for you. I listened earlier today and was so excited thinking about weddings, I went down a Pinterest rabbit hole imagining how I’d create the perfect look. Have a look and hope it helps (personally, I’d go for the red velvet!): https://www.pinterest.com/womanwithaplan/brides-of-a-certain-age/
Congratulations, Kim! I love a chill engagement story — sometimes you just know you want to be together, and it’s as simple as that. So glad you found someone worthy who makes you happy.
Thanks for all the congratulations, ladies!
Such a great podcast! Ms. Strong is so intelligent and funny and real. Looking forward to reading Flight. I love it when y’all talk to writers.
Best wishes on your engagement, Kim. I don’t know you but am thrilled for you!
